Re sin Some concordances describe 2 types of sin 1 the sin nature we inherit from Adam denoted by hamartia in the Greek of the NT , the basic principle from which we draw when we miss the mark , and 2 the sins we commit Hamartia occurs more than about 20 X more often than the sins we commit If we confess our sin s , He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin s and cleanse us from all unrighteousness .... 1John 1:9 uses hamartia in both cases..what a shock that was to me when I discovered that In other words, we have been set free from the sin nature?....and NOT the sins we commit! Someone, please clarify this for me. Neil in Canada

2 Peter 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell , and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment
  • Randy on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
We are slaves to what we obey. Jesus and His Righteousness or sin. So beings 'sin is all unrighteousness'.....we must "stop" sinning to be made Righteous in Christ. Holy to the LORD!

All Good things come from God but His Motivation is not always understood even that the World Wide Flood was Loving and Merciful Those of us that our Abba Father has Chosen and Predestined to be Conformed into the Image of Jesus Rom8 He knew from the beginning what our Heart Focus would be including that we would never rejectJesus who is the only way to Him because They are One in Spirit 1Jn4and5.

I agree with you Adam that God like He did with us He gave Satan free will and he chose to continue to do evi 314 . Some ask than why did God knowing Satan would do evil create him. If we didn't have a choice than we would be puppets and God can use for good what Satan means for evil. Hell is needed for those who do evil without Repentance. Satan will be thrown into the Lake of Fire for Eternity too.

Nay. Ye do speak confusion. For it is written in the Holy Scriptures, I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate TO BE conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
  • Adam - In Reply on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
I don't believe God created anyone to sin, but he gave everyone freewill. I think people can get hung up on the all-knowing aspect of God to the point where they think he creates evil and I do not believe that. There are even instances in the Bible of God changing his mind, so I think God allows himself to see things unfold on our timeline. I don't believe our actions are predestined.
  • Marie WASHINGTON on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
In verse 8, it states that The devil sinned from the beginning. So does that mean God created the devil to sin?
  • Wayne Tucker on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
I've talked to people who do not like v. 6. They have listened to other religionists who have a spin on the scripture, not of God. That which NB it says is as it means. Believe.

Dear Vicky and A Disciple when we Love someone nobody has to tell us to Love them we can't be any other way. Was Jesus telling those to obey in Mathew 25:31- or comending them because they did. How we treat others Jeaus said is how we are treating Him. So do we have to earn our Salvation NO! but we will show we have it. Did God know by His foreknowledge that we would? Yes He knows all things.
  • Freedomborn - In Reply on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
Yes JP there is only one unforgivable Sin and that is Rejecting Jesus which is blaseming The Holy Spirit by calling Him a Lier and how can we be brought back to Repentance if we reject our Redeemer in our Heart but we are not to Judge anyones Eternal Destiny only God knows their Heart, some repent on their deathbeds like the man on the cross next to Jesus by the good seeds planted in God's Love
  • Freedomborn - In Reply on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
Yes Randy only in Christ Jesus are we Perfected Hebrews6:1 having put our Carnal flesh to death by The Spirit Romans8 when working out our Salvation but not meaning working for it. But if we Sin before we are Perfected having had True Heart Repentance Jesus is our Advocate and than being set free from the Slavery to Sin we walk in the Freedom of The Spirit of God's Love- John 8:34-36- 1John2:28-29

Charles I did reply before but it may not be posted yet. I was very confused by all the different Bible Teaching that contradicted or was not confirmed in Scripture but after asking for and receiving God's Wisdom Proverbs4:7 which none of us were Born with God's Truth was no longer like a Jigsaw Puzzle but a Picture. God's Law is our Protection Romans 6 and Matthew5:17-20 Blessings.

Very True Seventh Day and how wonderful that Jesus has set us free from the Slavery of Sin so we can work out our Salvation not meaning work for it of course and putting our Carnal Flesh to death by The Spirit Romans 8 and then being Perfected in God's Love we don't Sin because we have His seed, 1John 3:9 the Old has gone the New has come. Christian Love and Blessings in Christ Jesus.

To Freedomborn The Bible can be confusing sometimes, some scripture is meant for the unsaved and some is meant for the saved. That means not all scripture is for every body. Before Jesus died, when he was teaching, the things he taught mostly was for everybody because at that time there were no saved people, everyone was a sinner. Jesus didn't do away with the law, but is for the unsaved.

Thank you Patty and yes what a wonderful Promise we have from our Abba Father He will never abandon us even if everyone else does. Jesus warned us that when we follow Him we will be persecuted even by some of those in our Families and in the Church but He will keep us strong to the end. He knows us by Name and not one of us will be lost He protects our Souls. Blessings Dear Sister in Christ Jesus

We turn to our Father for everything we do. In the morning we pray fot protection. Our Strength comes thru Him. No matter how you feel or what evilness is trying to make trouble, our God is close!!!

Charles I would very much appreciate if you would share with the conformation of Scripture how your statement about the Law is in agreement with Matthew 5:17-20 Thanking you for your time, God tells us we are to be in agreement about His Truth, we are not to agree to disagree but to Trust Jesus our only Spiritual Teacher to lead us into all Truth having asked for God's Wisdom.
  • Freedomborn - In Reply on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
Dear Marie, Satan chose to do evil which leads to more evil and spirital death if not repented of as confirmed in Scripture. But if our Abba Father knew what Satan would do why did He Create him? God does not want Puppets He gave us all including Satan freedom to choose to Love and obey Him or to seek our own way without Him, yes we reap what we sow unless we repent and seek not to do evil.
  • Freedomborn - In Reply on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
1John3:7 When we are Born Again we have God's Seed and we are also Perfected in His Love, our Carnal Flesh has been put to death and we have the mind of Christ, so we do walk as Jesus walked in this life Holy and Righteously and we do not sin, we can't.
  • Freedomborn - WordPress on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
Understanding God's Plan of Salvation for His Redeemed Children as confirmed in Scripture showes clearly that we not only don't sin when we are Born Again we can't sin.
  • W.H. - In Reply on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
Satan's mind was bent toward being like God. He therefore tried to create a reality that was all about him. That's what sin is, an invention. Romans 1:28-32, specifically verse 30 Anyone that worships anything besides God is sin and idolatry. Hope this helps.
  • Seventh day is sabbath - In Reply on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
Angels were created by God and given free choice to sin or not, Hebrews 2:7 we are created by God just a little lower than the angels and also have been given free choice to sin or not.
  • MARIE WASHINGTON on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
Verse 8 says that the devil sinneth from the beginning, God created Satan as a beautiful angel, so the question I have is, who gave Satan the mind to sin?
  • Randy Hahn on 1 John 3 - 5 years ago
If we believe that Jesus took away all of our sin, with all of our heart, might, and strength, we are made righteous in Spirit by the PROMISE! Mystery of Godliness! No man is made righteous by the flesh, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit abides in you. Jesus was manifested to take away our sin...why would anyone bring them back by not believing Him fully? John says "does not"..."cannot sin"! Holy
  • JP on 1 John 3 - 6 years ago
Verses 4,8 and 9 those words commit and committeth (means to practice or purposely sin without a second thought with no remorse) a true Christian cannot do this. a Christian may fall into sin, but we are committed to sin.
  • Ivy Johnson on 1 John 3 - 6 years ago
We are in this body of flesh: on earth: we have to deal with: the world: the flesh: and the devil. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 4:15: There is none righteous, no not one. All our righteousness are as filthy rags. Because of Jesus, God sees us righteous .

  • Charles Blackwell on 1 John 3 - 6 years ago
Christians cannot sin because, we do not live under the law.
Where there is no law, there is no sin.
His seed remains in us and we cannot sin.
All we do is for his purpose.
What may look like a sin to others, is not a sin to us.
  • Walter Waller on 1 John 3 - 6 years ago
It's wonderful beyond my ability to explain. My opinion is worthless when from this words of inspiration I find the truth that makes me free from my sin and gives joy and peace!! Aman!
