We don 't have to depend on what we see with our naked eyes, lets depend on God for every thing. David knew that God does not use expensive things or strong people he just needs us to trust him for every thing.
  • Sam on 1 Samuel 17:40 - 11 years ago
5 is the number for Grace God gives us just what we need to face our battles also Goliath had 4 other brothers they were smooth stones because they were in running water running water is a type of the Holy Ghost

  • Terry on 1 Samuel 17 - 11 years ago
This story about David, and Goliath proves to us that when God speaks to us, we need to obey. We should not rely on our appearance or abilities, but trust that if God is telling us to do something, we should then obey!
  • Nancyh on 1 Samuel 17:40 - 11 years ago
I don't think the number of stones is as important as the choosing. Being smooth and round, they were the most perfect projectile, and in David’s practiced hand the most deadly. My question to myself is "what spiritual weaponry am I choosing to practice with daily, with the help of the Lord, that I might be better prepared to defeat my enemy, Satan?
  • Michael on 1 Samuel 17 - 11 years ago
The war against the philistines was Saul's to lead being the reigning king of isreal. Unfortunately, he had received the spirit of bondage and became fearful. God having anointed David. His actions and speeches were guided by Him. Eliab, Saul and the host of Isreal could not comprehend what was to happen. David confronting and slaying Goliath (a giant) without a sword proved he had received the Spirit of adoption. Lessons for us Christian. We should guide zealously the Spirit of adoption which we have received lest the devil comes and give us the spirit of fear. Every seconds of our lives should be lived with resolute submission to the will of God. Knowing we have a greater reward should we measure up to His standard.
  • JEANETTE WRIGHT on 1 Samuel 17:40 - 11 years ago
I asked the same question as the person previous. What does the 5 SMOOTH stones represent? does the number 5 mean anything and did he use them all. Also why were they smooth stones did it meany anything at all by this?
  • Deborah on 1 Samuel 17 - 11 years ago
David had great faith in God, and this paid off. In a way, it was one of the ways to prove that God is real.

  • _Rosalina_Sayson_Ko_Tapay_ on 1 Samuel 17 - 11 years ago
1-Samuel Chapter 17 is a story of David's great faith to God and how God helped him even he was found the least among others to stand above all against the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines.
  • Mwoso Derrick on 1 Samuel 17 - 11 years ago
This is one story in which an extra-ordinary faith was ehibited. We don't need armors, heavy shields, long spears, a great height, and so many voices backing us up, besides, God does not need a maltitude but me and you, the qtn is what do you have in your hands to overcome? we just need a burning faith, that small stone & sling in our hands, a small still and yet gentle spirit in our hearts, a hope that all hard situations come to an end, a peace of mind that when the whole world is barking at you, u can still sing a melody in your heart, a courage that you can overcome, a confidence that you can face whatever comes your way, a grace and salvation that you never bought, and an assurance that HE alone knows the good plans for your life. Be blessing wherever you go and in whatever you do.
  • McBright Mbozi on 1 Samuel 17 - 11 years ago
We shall conquer in Jesus' name
  • Anonymous on 1 Samuel 17 - 11 years ago
This is my most favorite story of the Bible, becuase it shows that when we fear the Lord and are willing to exalt His name that He will give us the power and wisdom to resist and overcome evil.David not only showed physical courage, but he showed more than that he showed moral courage.
If we strive to have the faith of Jesus and obey God's commandments we will be true heroes in His sight and He will answer our prays, He will be with us in trouble and He will honour us.
  • Martha on 1 Samuel 17 - 11 years ago
The battle is for the Lord and God use David to defeat Goliath and God can use you to do his work in any where and anytime.
  • Nathanael on 1 Samuel 17 - 11 years ago
You must have a testimony of what GOD has done, for you to stand the next challenge,if david had not killed lion and bear,he would‘nt have courage to withstand goliath.
  • Barbara on 1 Samuel 17 - 12 years ago
David was a man of faith and courage. With God all things are possible. This story of David is in the spirit for the month of May and i believe for the next couple of months. Whatever mountain we are facing today with the faith of David we shall overcome, in Jesus name.
  • Monique watson on 1 Samuel 17 - 12 years ago

  • YVONNE GREEN on 1 Samuel 17 - 12 years ago

Often, items are bought on one’s own devices and won't need any support.
  • DanWilson on 1 Samuel 17 - 12 years ago
The battle isn’t ours but of God, as we have God’s power in us we shall always be more than conqueror, we shall always emerge victorious.
  • Daniel Onah on 1 Samuel 17 - 12 years ago
David killed Goliath before the battle started, can't you see he told Goliath in verses 45 and 46 that I will cut off your head and give to birds of the earth. I realize that he did not have spare nor cutlass in his hand physically but spiritually he had the hand of almighty God. With faith you can bring down any Goliath that trouble your family and destiny.
  • MR LEWIS on 1 Samuel 17 - 12 years ago
Have a question why did David’s brother get upset with him in verse 28?
  • Ibironke oluwasegun on 1 Samuel 17 - 12 years ago
I am always fascinated by the fact that David slew Goliath thousands of years ago; but the story of what he did is still being told even in national dailies today. Now, I know why 1 Samuel 17:46: ''That all the earth may know there is a God in Israel''.
  • Peter on 1 Samuel 17 - 12 years ago
According to the story, in verse 51, after David defeated
Goliath with the slingshot, he slew him with his sword and cut off his head. That sounds like poor sportsmanship to me.
  • Pearlie on 1 Samuel 17 - 13 years ago
David new what God could do and what He would if we today would trust God and beleive in GOd the way David did we could all get rid of our Goliathbecause God will do just what He say He would do take care of us.
  • Pernella Pollard on 1 Samuel 17 - 13 years ago

  • Pernella Pollard on 1 Samuel 17 - 13 years ago
what a powerfull chapter I get some revalations from it.one part remains me of Ephesians chp 6,Saul thought oh what this young lad can do for his army, David had to tell him in vs 37 " God delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear" ( now he is speaking the word which are spirit comes out of our mouth to do something words are death or life)He will deliver me out of the hand of the philistine."
vs 38-47. saul try to put on the armour of God on to David, And David said," I cannot go with these for i have not proved THEM." Here comes the POWER OF GOD ,he went out to battle with faith & .vs 45
  • Pernella on 1 Samuel 17 - 13 years ago
To Ron 4/4/11 Saul could have more than memory lost i was thing about this also but remember that the Evil Spirit from the Lord trouble him more than once. Although David played the harp to soothe his soul , he might not have been completely delivered.God's Plan.
