When Peter said, Repent, be baptized, then the gift of the Holy Spirit will come. What he is saying is, Repent, stop turn around from your sin, turn to Jesus. At that point, you are saved. Then be baptized, as an act of confession to the Church, on what you did. Baptizing has nothing to do with salvation. And at the point of repenting, is when the Holy Spirit comes into your heart.

Leshane - Thank God for you, too!! I don't 'comment' on here anymore, as of a week ago because - it was taking up ALL my time - just as FB did, which I also dropped. But I do browse the comments from time to time> Maybe you can take my place for awhile - until you get tired of it - lol; I WILL be praying for your witness ................

Praise the Lord sis IRENE123 commenting on post from 2 4 17. Be encouraged in the Lord my sister. Holiness is right and without it no man shall see the LORD. Isaiah 35:8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness, the unclean shall not pass over it but it shall be for those: the wayfarying men, though fools ,shall not err therin. Holiness is right

    Acts 2:38

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Repent: change your minds, entertain other thoughts, and a different opinion of Jesus of Nazareth, than you have done; consider him, and believe in him, as the true Messiah and Saviour of the world; look upon him, n

Jesus Christ, himself, gave you those instructions and you still resist His godly instruction. Matt. 4:17- Repent, for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand, another quote from the Son of God.
  • 2 Timothy 2:15 on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
In Acts 2 the Kingdom is still being offered to the Jews see Lk23:24, Acts 2:14,22, 36. The question asked is what must WE do, not what must I do as in Acts 16:31. This was before the mysteries were revealed to Paul see Rom 16:25. They blasphemed the Holy Ghost in Acts 7 and God went to the Gentiles. We get Gentile baptism Matt 28:19, Acts 10:48 because Jews are not the nations Num 23:9.
  • Irene123 on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
    V. 44 - "And ALL that were TOGETHER, and had ALL things common." They had ALL just recently been baptized in the name of Jesus and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. All things included Acts 2:28. And they went and witnessed to others of the same salvation - Acts 2:38, BECAUSE they ALL believed the same. There is not ONE instance in scripture where the words of Matt. 28:19 were used, not one.

    Ray321 - Do you attend a church?
  • Mari on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
We need the baptism of the holy spirit. Romans 8 says so much
  • Ray321 on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
My friends, did you know that Jesus (God) gave Apostle Paul secrets (mysteries ). If we read Romans 11:25, Paul tells us that if we don't believe the mysteries of his , that we are blind. We must understand the mystery that God (Jesus ) gave Paul, Colossians 2:2 . To ignore the writings of Paul with be foolish and ignorance. The mystery was kept a secret until Paul got it, share the Mystery. God

Iren123 if you think you have to get baptized for Salvation, in no disrespect to your beliefs, I would say that you have no idea of the dispensation of the grace of God. Romans through Philemon, Paul does not speak of baptist as Salvation. Yes he did get baptized, but it was a different dispensation and later he was given a new Revelation. Paul is our Apostle for this dispensation. God bless you

Ray 321 - Where did you get the idea I said we don't have to be baptized, and etc.??
  • Ray321 on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Iren123 you are getting closer to understanding the Word of God. You are right about we dont't have to repent and get baptized in the book of Act's. All we have to do is follow Apostle Paul through the Lord Jesus Christ in all his epistles Romans through Philemon and be saves by grace through faith plus nothing. Take God for his Word and believe. Rightly divide the Word of God and you will see...

    V. 45 - I have seen people say of this scripture thast it is for today; that we, if we are TRUE Christians, we should sell all we have and give to the church. Well, if they want to believe that, that is fine with me; I'm not going to debate it.

    Irene- Amen!

Bruce- glad it was clear up.

Have a blessed day to the both of you.

Blessed: when I first saw that post that's what it look like she said. After I read it a couple more times and thought about it? I think she was talking about what she read that from another post.
  • Irene123 on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Blessed - I'm sorry for the words I omitted from my message; I'm an editor's dau., but have never learned to proof read - very well. What I said was, I have known the Bible for 50 yrs. and I know there is no difference between Holy Ghost and Spirit. Because the apostles used them interchangeably in one sentence it can get confusing to others. I'm sure it has to do with the 'context'.
  • Blessed on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Maybe I understood wrong. Did you say there is a difference in Holy Spirit and Holy Ghost?

John 38He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
  • Irene123 on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Blessed - I've for 50 yrs. there is no difference between the Holy Ghost and the Holy Spirit. On what comment of mine did you make your comment?
  • Irene123 on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
a disciple - Thank-you for the pleasant reply. I was thinking - the new Christians wouldn't take part in their old O.T. things, nor would they be allowed into the temple with their new belief; it would have been a sacrilege to the 'Jews'. I th'ot this because the people gathered with Jesus on Solomon's Porch; He didn't go into the temple proper.
  • A disciple on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Irene, The Court of the Gentiles was for "the Gentiles;" for there were many from all over the world that came up to Jerusalem, ever since the days of King Solomon. The Disciples at that time were not yet from among the Gentiles, but Jews, and were not assembling with the Gentiles. They did what was commonly done by all the people, gathering in groups; except THEY were filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • Irene123 on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
    V. 46 - The Bible doesn't say such, but there was a 'court of the Gentiles' that these Christians used at the Temple; it was an open roofed court, and in v. 47 they had Christians homes to worship in also. I read a lot of Bible history; it helps in understanding the Bible; I love biblical history.
  • Blessed on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Irene no difference of Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost

To Wayne: I read Jn. 7:39; what was I s'posed to get out of it?
  • Wayne on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Irene, read, if u will, John 7:39. Should help.
  • A disciple on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Moses, There is no contradiction with ANY Scriptures! It is important to understand the context of the Word, in order to discern what might otherwise sound different. Its not word games and its not some kind of secret code; but truth and intelligence in listening to what is said, in total. We cannot just take a favorite "verse" by itself to get the right meaning, without the whole of the teaching.
  • Moses on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Here is the Name that denoted by Holy spirit through Apostle Peter exactly in Act 2:38, that means we need to take Baptism in the name of Lord Jesus Christ....But Anti- Christ dwell in the Church doctrine and preach to people to take Baptism as in Mathew 28:19 and it say it is God word....now we need listen that Mathew 28:19 is God word means what about Act 2:38....Don't tell it is word of Peter
  • Irene123 on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Acts 2:4 - I've seen the question on here (on the comments back pgs.) - "I've tried to explain to my congregation that the holy ghost and the holy spirit are two separate things." I'm sure v. 4 is where they got this erroneous idea. Had Luke said, "..... as the ghost gave them utterance." it would have been ludicrous, as you can see. Isa. 1:18 - Come now, let us reason together ..... ".
  • Irene123 on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Acts 18:2 says Aquila was from Pontus. I got curious, looked up Pontus. And the article reminded me there were people (Greeks, "strangers") present on the Day of Pentecost, Acts 2:9. It was during the Roman period that Christianity entered Pontus and near-by areas from the Roman 'dispersion'. God wanted His people to spread His word beyond Jerusalem, and this is how he did it.
