    Hello Earl,

    I just noticed your comment:

"Before the Old Testament was translated into other languages, there is no mention of HELL. One would assume that if there were such a place of torture for sin, the prophets would have never cease warning people. Yet not one word concerning a place called Hell. Likewise not one mention of a place of eternal bliss, called heaven."

I'm trying to wrap my mind around your comment, because clearly the Bible does talk about hell. It uses the word 'hell' in both the Old and New Testament as well as other synonyms, such as in Mark 9:48.

This fact can also be verified through a quick search:

    Link

The meaning hasn't changed through time either. For instance, man didn't suddenly invent the word 'hell' after a certain point of time.

Since a quick search confirms the Bible has always used the word 'hell', so is it possible you meant something else? Since it does not sound like a true statement, can you please explain what you mean by, "Before the Old Testament was translated into other languages, there is no mention of HELL."?

    God bless...

I agree with you there Earl , we start out as empty vessels . We are not naturally inclined to goodness , we can see this when people are left without any rules , legal or moral . Many people have lived their lives without ever having had the chance to know the Truth through no fault of their own . I cannot believe that they will spend eternity being tortured for their ignorance .God is love and I do not believe that He sanctions the eternal torture of the ignorant and I don't understand why anyone would believe this . You and others on here have helped me very much and I still have a lot to learn , this site is fab but God is in the Bible and it should be our first and main source of information . Ecclesiastes Ch 3 , V 10-22 . Much love to you in Christ .

In the epistle to the Romans in Chapter 7 after paul scribes the battle between the natural man of body and soul

and the law of God after the inward man Christ, he says O, wretched man that I am who shall deliver me from this body of death. In Roman times they took certain prisoners and depending on the crime to so to speak teach a lesson

would tie either on there back or face face and they would have to for a period of time walk around like this. Absolutely

horrifying that is a good description of when we are born again or old man nature bagan to die when we believed and started walking in the newness of the spirit that's why paul said when we walk by the spirit more of the old man nature

rots away because the spirit is energizing us with life.

Now on the other hand if a person who's born again gets tricked by the adversary and keep something in mind

what has actually occurred is over time little by little the person isn't reading the word daily, they don't pray much or at all

they don't ask God for help and before you know it they are no longer walking by the spirit the word but they believe

its O.K. there's the deception. I don't really have to do this, then they are back to there dead nature all 5 senses but you can't revive a dead body which is worse than if they didn't know the truth. A dog wallowing in its own vomit.

Jesus did not save our sinful nature. He gave us a new nature by the Spirit. In Scripture, the flesh can mean this sinful nature or it can simply mean human flesh. Jesus did redeem our human flesh, in that we will have new glorified flesh the same as Jesus has when resurrected. He showed his resurrected body to Thomas and told Him to touch His wounds. Thomas did and admitted that indeed Jesus was resurrected in a fleshly body. Just as our souls are redeemed and no longer under the curse and corruption of sin, so shall our bodies be in the resurrection.

I understand your point. I just thought that the term "flesh" should be clarified.

...I just believe we are to heed to whole council of God in Scripture on this and work out our salvation with fear and trembling, so that we do not walk away from Jesus. I cannot tell my sons that their faith was not valid enough to save them as youths, and I cannot say that since they believed as youth, they are forever saved. I tell them that they are separated from God right now because of their current unbelief and that God will receive them lovingly when they repent and ask Him for help to believe once again. They are prodigals, loved by God, and He is always working 24/7 to bring His lost sheep back home to Him. I am trusting Him and look forward to when all of my sons are once again reunited to Christ, having "divorced" Him.

I was defining willful sin. I was not speaking to whether someone can lose their salvation or not. I affirm that Peter did not become unsaved. Like all of us, he sinned even as a believer. Has any of us on here or in the body of Christ lied? gossiped? replied to someone in anger? doubted or despaired of faith? backstabbed another? We do not lose our salvation wen we sin, intentionally or not. But if a person apostasizes and renounces their faith in Jesus and does not return to God before they die, I believe that they are not saved. But I also believe that Jesus will draw anyone who has done so back to a place of faith before they die. He will keep those who love Him. When all my sons were young up to their teen years, they believed in Jesus. Their child-like faith was effective towards their salvation. But when they turned away and denounced their faith, I would never say that they were never saved in the first place. That is counter to Scripture that says if we believe on the Lord Jesus we will be saved. Salvation is not based on age or maturity; it is based on God's grace in giving us faith to believe, which my sons had received. I think it is a wicked thing to tell our children tat believing in Jesus saves you and when turn from Him, we say that their faith was not "real" enough to save them. Who could ever be sure that their faith was "true" enough to be confident of their salvation then? Also, it is a wicked thing to teach that a believer is once saved, always saved. This statement makes it true even if they, after receiving the Lord in faith, they live turned away from God and pursue sinful living. Believers would think that they could live however they want and still retain their salvation. I think of it this way, good works do not earn us salvation, but sinfulness always breaks fellowship with God until we repent and confess, even as a believer. I am not totally settled one way or another concerning the security of the believer doctrine. see more...

Hi Gigi Peter did not willfully sin his thinking was still partially tied into the law by works not seeing the Justification by

grace of God by believing in what Christ paid for which abolished the works of the law. Galatians 2:14-20 had to be a hot debate because barnabas was caught up in the debate. as a matter of fact Peter was wrong in His head but not in His heart, so he was acting and accusing others according to the law of not walking but He was doing the same thing but

didn't see it. So that being said yes Peter was absolutely saved. We do the same thing to our when we start thinking if I

don't dress a certain way or eat certain things or cut my hair a certain way then I'm not walking with God. Gods word says do your best to follow Gods word First and great commandment Love God with all your heart soul mind and strength

then whatever you believe to do God Bless. I.E. walk in Agapeo This is my understanding God Bless

Your friend: What if the scriptures mean this:

1 Thessalonians 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

What if: Those that sleep in Jesus are the Old Testament Saints that died never receiving the promised victory over death, but had to wait on Christ resurrection.

Matthew 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many of the bodies of the saints which slept (in Jesus) arose (with Christ),

Matthew 27:53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared to many.

What if: the holy city was New Jerusalem and not Old Jerusalem.

1 Thessalonians 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

What if: those that are alive and remain, are the ones that had their part in the first resurrection and never saw death.

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that had part in the first resurrection......

John 8:51 .....he shall never see death.

The saints from the Old Testament and those that never see death, all took part in the first resurrection. These want prevent those left in their graves from seeing a future resurrection.

This (first) resurrection want prevent those still in their graves from seeing a future (second) resurrection.

1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall shall rise first.

What if: the is just reaffirming the above verses, the saints and the ones who died with Christ having their part in the first resurrection; making sure we know there are two resurrection.

1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain (alive because we never saw death) shall be caught up together with them (saints of old) in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, so shall we ever be with the Lord.

    David,

Thank you so much for pointing out the difference between the flesh and the spirit. Our flesh will never submit to the things of the Lord. But Jesus did not save our flesh, He saved our soul/our spirit. It's our spirit which Christ has sealed with His Spirit that has been made perfect in Christ Jesus, and He has promised to never leave us, nor forsake us!

Again, thank you for everything you share!

    Part 2:

Here's my understanding of Philippians 2:12. Paul says "Wherefore, my beloved, as you always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but also in my absence,"

So he praises them. He says you don't obey just when I'm there, but when I'm not there you obey. Here's what I want you to do. Here's the command, the salvation process.

And here's the literal translation from the Greek text: Be continually working out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

You see, it's a process. But wait a minute now. I thought that we didn't have to work for our salvation? Well, to put it in perspective, I have to take the very next verse. I can't just isolate verse 12 and put meaning to it without taking verse 13.

Paul says in Philippians 2:13, "For it is God which works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." The word "works in you" is the word energizing. For it is God who is continually energizing in you both to will, and to energize of His good pleasure whatever He thinks best!

It's His energy. Whenever He wants to energize my spirit for His Spirit to work in me, it's all according to His good pleasure. It doesn't have anything to do with my good pleasure. I'm just a vessel. So I'm to be continually involved in having my salvation worked out because it's God who is working it out.

As for your other question, being confident in salvation does not mean that I should disregard any part of scripture. I remain confident in my salvation because I am trusting in the one who has saved me, the one who has promised to never leave me, and the one who is keeping me saved by His power alone. I can't keep myself saved. And no, I do not believe I can go out and sin all I want to because my salvation is permanent. My role is to submit and surrender to Christ. The only thing I had to contribute to my salvation was the sin to which I needed to be saved from. Jesus Christ has saved me. He has given me eternal life. If that can be lost, then it is not eternal!

Which dead are GOD preferring to is it spiritually dead or like die natural dead?
  • GiGi again - In Reply - 4 years ago
Actually, I am describing every person, saved or not. Peter was saved at the time he visited the churches in Gentile areas and chose to eat with the Jews of the congregation separate from the Gentiles, whereas before he had eaten with te Gentiles. Paul called him out on this, because Peter knew better. He willfully sinned to look good in front of the Jews from Jerusalem.
  • GiGi again - In Reply - 4 years ago
Yes, we are "witnesses in what we say and what we do". Our witness should show the goodness of Jesus, the desirability of doing what is right, and the positive effects of living for Jesus and not for sin. Our good "works" follow our justification through faith in Jesus. We have been given a brand new nature by the indwelling Spirit that was not in us before conversion. That is why we are called to walk in the Spirit (who will never lead us to sin) and you (we) shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh (sinful nature) Galatians 5:16)

Paul speaks prior to this verse of the liberty we are called to: "but do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh (and excuse to sin), but in love serve one another. for all the law is fulfilled in one word (love), even in this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

Paul says in Galatians 3:13 that "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us" He did not redeem us from the law, because the law is good. Paul says that: the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ (showing us our need for salvation because we could not be justified by keeping the law, because, unequivocally, no one but Christ kept all of the law), But after faith as come, we are no longer under a tutor." (being guided to God by the law). Galatians 3:24

Paul taught those who are redeemed and justified by faith, are not to take our freedom in Christ to continue to sin without concern. We are to take our freedom in Christ to use the Power of the Holy spirit to live God's way, doing what is good and shows the love of Christ to others.

    Bro Dan,

Sorry for the late reply. I was away and just saw the questions you sent. I'll respond to the 2 verses you sent. First of all, Hebrews 10:26. This is one of the verses that is used by those who believe salvation can be lost. But I do not see anything there that tells me salvation can be lost. In all the verses in Hebrews chapter 10, beginning from verse 1, the writer, whoever that might be, is speaking to Hebrew people. He is showing them the superiority of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ over the sacrificial system of Judaism.

After the writer has presented his case that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ is far superior than their Jewish way of sacrificing, In Hebrews 10:26, the writer is telling these Hebrew people that if they turn away and go back to into Judaism, they are not going to find any sacrifice there that is going to take care of their sin problem if they reject Christ and His sacrifice. (There is no other sacrifice for sin).

A person who has "received the knowledge of the truth" does not mean that person is saved. Hebrews 6:4 also speaks about an "enlightened" person. People also use this verse to prove you can lose your salvation. But again, an enlightened person does not mean a saved person. A person can be enlightened to the truth, they can receive the knowledge of the truth, but if that person does not surrender their life to Jesus Christ, that knowledge and enlightenment means nothing.

These people were being enlightened to the truth about Christ. They received the knowledge. But instead of surrendering to Christ, they were turning away and going back into Judaism. It was much easier for them to do that than to surrender their life to Christ. Surrendering to Christ meant severe persecution, so they were turning away. No salvation there to be lost because they turned away without surrendering to Christ.

I'm running out of space. I'll respond to the other verse you mention ( Philippians 2:12) and your other questions in a second post.

Back in 1 Thess. 4 is your answer. Those who've FALLEN ASLEEP, are deceased believers in Jesus. They received Him as Savior while they were alive; and testified that they had done so.

When Jesus comes to get all his Saints; those asleep rise up First to meet Jesus in the Clouds.

Next, all those believers who are alive, are raised to meet Jesus in the clouds.

Our bodies have been changed and Jesus takes us to Heaven immediately. There will be no more sorrow or pain.

It's going to be fast. That's why we must be ready now.
  • GiGi - In Reply - 4 years ago
    Hello,

I agree that believers are to endeavor to live godly lives, saying no to sin, and yes to wat is good and right according to what as been revealed in God's moral law. Jesus said that those who truly love Him will obey His commandments (written in the Law given to Moses). He summed these up by saying Loving God with all of our hearts, soul, mind, and body and loving our neighbor as ourselves. Those who claim to be in Christ and continue to live sinful, worldly lives sow that they do not love Jesus. They may say it is o.k. because they are under grace not Law. But Scripture plainly says:

"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness (sin) and worldly lusts (worldly desires), we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every deed (sin) and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works."

    Titus:11-14

Many churches today do not exhort their members to stop sinning (that blaspheme the Word of God Titus 2:5) instead live obedient lives (that glorify God). Sin is downplayed so much in this generation that most people do not think it is as deadly as it is in all forms. We should want to do what is of life, not what is of death, because God has sown us mercy and given us grace in Jesus Christ.

    BORN AGAIN

You are not born again, until you depart this body of flesh, up until departing this body of flesh ,you are a WOMAN IN TRAVAIL, waiting to be DELIVERED.

You can have KNOWLEDGE of being born again, but it doesn't happen, until we are relieved of this flesh and blood body.

Revelation 12:2 And she (WOMAN) being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be DELIVERED.

1 Timothy 2:13 And Adam (Christ) was first formed, then Eve (WOMAN) (Christ bride, which includes both the male and female in God's creation).

1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam (Christ) was not deceived, but WOMAN (males and females) being deceived, was in the transgression.

1 Timothy 2:15 Notwithstanding, she (WOMAN)(both male and female) shall be SAVED in CHILDBEARING....Giving birth to Son's of God. The exactness of Christ.
