It says that Esau was born first and he was red and hairy. it doesn't describe Jacob. So, we do not know what Jacob looked like. It seems that they were fraternal, not identical. This description of Esau will be important in the next chapter.

As they grew up, Esau was a skilled hunter, and Jacob, a shepherd. They continued to dwell in tents, still needing to move their flocks from pastureland to pastureland Esau was the stronger, and Jacob supposedly was mild in demeaner. The parents favored one child over the other, Isaac favoring Esau, and Rebekah favoring Jacob. Since Rebekah never conceived again, each parent could spoil their favored child. I am sure this caused a lot of problems. Both children could be seen as heirs to God's promises, both being of the promised seed. The firstborn would customarily have the birthright blessing and the other a secondary blessing. It seems that Esau did not value the birthright very much. Maybe he knew that the birthright would include following after God like Abraham and Isaac. he may have not been interested in spiritual matters as much as Jacob was. Esau was willing to trade this treasured birthright blessing for a bowl of lentil stew when he returned from a hunting excursion famished, stating her was near death with hunger, probably an exaggeration. Jacob was cunning and took advantage of his brother.

Isaac and Esau are spoken of later in the N.T. in Romans: 9 where it speaks of the true Israel not being children of the flesh, like Esau, even though he is a seed of Abraham. Rather it was the children of the promise that are the true Israel by election, elected before they were born and had not done good or evil. This election is not of works, but of God's purpose and calling. This encounter about the birthright was not the event that determined the election of Jacob, not Esau. It was determined before they were born. God was not going to make a people for Himself out of two brothers, but out of one of them.

Isaac and Ishmael did reunite and buried their father together. How much interaction they had prior to this or after is unknown. Notice that it was after Abraham died that God blessed Isaac. He was now 75, the same age that Abraham was when God called him to leave Ur. isaac was blessed by God through Abraham during his life, but now he was the family patriarch. He had been living at Beer Lahai Roi, in the Negev, southwest of Mamre (Hebron). Beer means well, Lahai Roi means "of the Living One who sees me." This very well may be the well that Hagar found when the Lord appeared to her when she was sent into the wilderness at Sarah's request. At the time, the wilderness area had plenty of game animals.

The next part of the chapter gives the lineage of Ishmael and account of his death. He had twelve sons (princes), just as prophesied, and the descendants dwelt across Saudi Arabia. Some of Keturah's sons' descendants also settled in northern Arabia, as well as to the east in what is later called Midian. Ishmael lived 137 years, living about 50 years longer than his father, Abraham. It says he died in the presence of all of his brethren, perhaps all of his sons.

The next section is an account of the birth of Jacob and Esau. Again, like Sarah, Rebekah was barren for some time, at least 20 years. She was probably a teen when she married Isaac, as was customary. Both new of God's promise and covenant with their father, Abraham. Therefore, they must have expected to have had many children within that 20 years. But no, none. Isaac pleaded with God concerning Rebekah's barrenness. God answered his prayers in His time. The pregnancy was unusual, as Rebekah felt that there was "wrestling" going on within her womb. She was concerned and asked God to give some explanation. He spoke to her (before it seemed that God spoke only to Abraham, but here He speaks to a woman) telling here that two nations are within her, twins, and gives a prophecy about the children.

Such and interesting chapter. And the comments were informative. Even though I am very familiar with this story, I am learning new things each time I revisit. It appears that Abraham married another of his concubines, Keturah. We do not know how long she was part of Abraham's household, but she was young enough to bear 6 sons which probably took about 12 to 15 years or so. Verse 6 said that he had sons from his concubines, so he may have fathered sons from women other than Keturah, as well.

These sons were old enough to set out on their own. Abraham knew his time of death was near. that is why he gave everything to Isaac (the inheritance and blessing) and made sure that the sons from Keturah were well gifted so they could start out on their own away from Isaac and Rebekah. These sons of Keturah settled East of where Abraham, Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob, and Esau lived (west of the Jordan River) (The twins were born when Abraham was 160 or so, since Isaac was 60 when they were born.) Abraham lived almost 50 years longer than Sarah. So we do not know if these sons were all born after Sarah died or before, or before and after, since Keturah was already his concubine, but made her his wife. There is a lot we do not know about this time of Abraham's last 50 years of life.

Just as Ishmael was sent away after the child of promise (Isaac) was born, these sons of Keturah were sent away because the promised was through Isaac's family line. We do not know the ethnicity of Keturah like we did with Hagar (Egyptian), but most likely she was not from Abraham's kin, Nahor. Abraham knew God who the promised lineage should descend from and he protected that. Abraham lived to a ripe old age of 175. Jacob and Esau would have known him, being 15 when he died. He was buried in the cave with the body of Sarah. Thus it became known as the Cave of the Patriarchs and is still there, though it may not be able to be accessed by the public.

I would like to expand the truths of your comments a little farther.

Revelation is two judgements, the first being the saints of God, as you said ( 1 Peter 4:17).

The gospel of Christ hasn't YET been preached to the WHOLE WORLD (from ADAM to CHRIST they had already died). This will happen after the first judgement of the saints, which is happening in the TIME of their suffering in the FLESH. When all the saints have been gathered, THEN, the second resurrection, at which time the saints with Christ, will declare (judge) the gospel to the WHOLE WORLD ( Revelation 10:11).

Judgement is not PUNISHMENT, as most believe, but is coming to TRUTH, by the words and works of God. In this AGE, ONLY, to those CHOSEN (to be saints and judges, GIVEN eyes to see and ears to hear. Everyone in God's APPOINTED TIME.

The whole world has been RECONCILED to God, through JESUS CHRIST; they just don't KNOW YET ( Colossians 1:20).

Matthew 13:11 He answer and said unto them, Because it is GIVEN unto you (the saints) TO KNOW, but unto them (those not called to the first resurrection) it is NOT GIVEN.

Christ creating HIMSELF in HIS SAINTS, how else can you JUDGE RIGHTEOUSLY, unless you have HIS MIND.

God always CHOOSES MEN, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Samson, Gideon, Joshua, the twelve, Paul, etc., etc. In THIS AGE, first death (to Christ, to his Word), first resurrection (his and the saints resurrection), first judgement (into TRUTH, THE LIFE, THE WAY) he is choosing ONLY THE SAINTS.

All others will be resurrected back in their FLESH and be JUDGED in CHRIST (HIS WORDS) by THE SAINTS and CHRIST and brought to the TRUTH that God HAS RECONCILED the world to himself through his Son Jesus Christ.

I was fooling around one day, and I typed in CHINA. I got 3 references to pestilences (pandemics); it describes the National colors of China. Points also to Palestinian nations and Northern Africa. You have to use ancient names from ancient maps.

Pestilence and pandemics are mentioned in Matthew 24 and Luke 21. God lives inside of times, and outside of time (eternal); Alpha and Omega.

It's something to consider, when contemplating being vaccinated. God is giving us the heads up. You have to pray it through, for You.

Genesis Ch 3 v 21 , this is the first instance as far as I'm aware . Adam and Eve have sinned and their eyes have been opened to their own nakedness , they made themselves aprons out of leaves to cover their nakedness , their shame , their sinfulness . In v 21 we we that plants were not good enough and God Himself makes them clothes of animal skin , therefore blood is shed , in order to cover their nakedness , their sinfulness . To fully understand this it's a good idea to read the whole of Ch 3 , all of Genesis and.....all of the Bible , enjoy .

Adam & Eve lived to a ripe old age. It's not illegal for first cousins to wed 3rd cousins. It's just an observation, but the gene pool back in those times was much stronger.

You can see that by the Book of Leviticus 18 or in Deuteronomy; God set limitations on what others consider to be incest; intermarrying.

These laws were introduced not until Leviticus.

I think the books of the Laws are really interesting. Many food laws were for protection against death from pathogens from unrefrigerated foods, like pork. Eggs should be cooked and stored without refrig. because of salmonella, etc.

First, the Bible isn't big enough to capture every detail of history of the world, so some things have to be left out. For example, if doesn't discuss each person necessarily eating, drinking water, using a restroom, or bathing, but we can safely assume these things happened. But it shares the most important things.

So, the omission of Cain's wife is one of those things. Here are 2 theories commonly stated for where Cain found a wife:

1. Land of Nod Genesis 4:16-17

2. Eve had daughters and one became his wife

It was God's plan that everyone is related so incest wasn't a sin early on, but was how God wanted to populate the Earth.

Land of Nod idea means that God created more people but it wasn't disclosed in the Bible. If this is true, I don't believe it occurred until after they were banished from the garden. It says Adam and Eve were the first and also that all generations go back to Adam. This is just my current opinion. God bless.

Also , the true sabbath hasn't happened yet , that will be the one thousand year reign of Christ on earth , when we will keep that sabbath by not doing our own works but by serving God .

You are so right , what might seem like a small gesture on our part can mean a lot to people , like a big glass of cool water in a dusty desert . I know that I've never forgotten a kindness that has been done to me , even from many years ago , if some one is unkind to me I forget it very quickly but an act of kindness stays with me a very long time .

Hi Jode It is my understanding the book of revelation is the final Judgement of man kind via the last appearing of Jesus christ. We being in the Body of Christ the church of God have already been Judged and because we have been made righteous in Gods eyes by what Jesus Christ accomplished we are not facing judgement but rewarded the bema for our stand on Gods word. Also opening verse of revelation says to the servants of God, Israel was called out to be servants of God by adoption, the church of God us are sons and daughters by spiritual rebirth. Now we are servants to people with holding forth the word but nowhere in the church epistles are we called servants we are called saints. We show up in revelation coming back with Christ as saints to end all evil. Perhaps this will help and I'm sure there are other understandings, revelation is the most misunderstood book in Gods Word.

Me and a neighbor would scavenge resale stores or buy greeting cards and fill them out with sweet scriptures of Gods Love; or personal prayers for comfort and Love.

And go to nursing homes and pass them out. They were always so cheered that it broke my heart how neglected some are.

We gathered magazines no longer wanted, and delivered those too. I combed Goodwill stores and had Bibles if someone wanted a Bible. It all costs very little.

Think about doing small things that deliver huge blessings.

Chris I have read Exodus 20:11 but it does not explain why God needed to rest on the seventh day, when he is omnipotent, wherefore Lord bless the sabbath Day and made it holy. Given it some more thought should it not of been God rested for us has an example for us to resting in him.

Brother Chris The problem with what your asking is a lot of times prophecy isn't public in Gods word many times men or women were given prophetic info privately. I have yet to hear from any so called well known individuals that what they say as prophecy comes to pass. That being said I fully appreciate where your coming from. It reminds me of Isaiah and Jeremiah where God ask Judea and Israel why are you listening to false prophesies from the gods they were worshipping.

The false prophets promised abundance but the true God said to return to Him.

Note: there are 7,146 scriptures referencing Jesus and others, anointed.

Jesus did no miracles until he turned the water into wine.

The purpose of the anointing is described in the 2 verses I provided.

It is the Holy Spirit who anoints Jesus's followers.

If the thing that people prophesy does not come to pass, do not follow them.

The anointing is not for self enrichment.

The office of Apostle is bestowed upon those who have seen the risen Christ with their eyes.

Apostle Paul saw Jesus. Open your fingers. The Five Fold Ministry is the thumb, touching all other fingers: prophet, teacher, pastor, evangelist.

I believe the office of Apostle are most likely to be missionaries in this day and age. They aren't enshrined in ivory towers, dripping in gold and riches. Think about it. They give everything they have to the work of the ministry.
