We all must remember the Bible was written at THAT time. However, God specifically gives us the Promise of Eternal Life for the Crucifix upon the Cross of Jesus Christ our Lord has allowed our sins to be forgiven. Gods word and Law DOES NOT EVER CHANGE, PERIOD. There is a certain number of times this is stated, however I can not recall it. As, he speaks in symbolic and numbers.

God, himself stated in Bible that it is known that all man are rebellious. So, we have a choice. We either follow God or we think we can take control, thus allowing that temptation and Satan to get what he wants and to further this by turning us to Hate Gods heart.

Just because our "time" "generation" of life here is not the same as when Bible was written DOES NOT allow us to try to define/change the LAW/WORD of God to our generation. For, How does Revelation exist, thus already telling us what to do for when our time of Eternal Life in Heaven comes?!?!

They did not have BF or GF back then. Ok. And, thus does not change his LAW- this means we Follow his Word and abide by the Law and we place it into our life of the interpretation to remain within His Law.

We must remember every evil on earth - one of them personally knows us so well, that they easily target us with temptation when it happens because they are always waiting for just the little slip to continue us into a brain fog and fully control us. God states, to always call upon Him first in any situation and He will Promise to guide us.

We Christians know that we carry Gods temple- within us- our Holy Spirit. We already are given the right choice to make upon life and choices. We also still have the choice to think we are strong and can handle things on our own.

So, let's use Gods temple within us and call upon God before we try to interpret his Word to accommodate our sins.

Deuteronomy c.23 v21-23,is talking about a vow to god. Ecclesiastes c.5-v 4-5. Questions here's the Old Testament time, can you break a vow, we are living in the New Testament time, Jesus came to bears our sin on the cross. I need your feedback on this. Thanks.

    Adam.

"The Bible also never talks about people using the restroom, although we can assume they probably did."

The Bible does mention these matters, therefore, you need no longer assume.

    Deuteronomy 23:

12Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad:

13And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee:

14For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.

    Also,

"So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that pertain to him by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall." 1 Samuel 25:22

"And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house(public outhouse) unto this day." 2 Kings 10:27

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

    2 Timothy 2:15

  • TENTH GENERATIONS - In Reply on Deuteronomy 23:3 - 4 years ago
    Generations, Tenth

    Deuteronomy 23:3

An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their TENTH generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:

    Deuteronomy 23:2

A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his TENTH generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

    [a non-covenant believer]

    Mark 8:12

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

Malachi 4:6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

    Isaiah 41:4

Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.

    Isaiah 58:12

And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

    Matthew 1:17

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

In the "time of Abraham a generation was an hundred years, thus: Gen." "15:16, "In the fourth generation" = in four hundred years (comp." verse 13 and Ex. 12:40). In Deut. 1:35 and 2:14 a generation is a period of thirty-eight years.

So who did Esther marry? Boaz? You err not knowing the scriptures, you understand through the lusts of your flesh.

You want to explain these statutes? Leviticus 22:10-13, Deuteronomy 21:10-14, & Deuteronomy 23:7-8

I think you have not read yet 2 Ezra which is 2 Esdras in the apocrypha. After reading Ezra, 1 Esdras, and Esther (both books and in order) then you need to read 2 Esdras. God did not answer them, he was not with them, he never responded to Nehemiah's cry for Him to come and dwell with them, yet there was no answer. They were never saved from captivity by going back to the land trying to rebuild a house to the Lord. They rebelled against his captivity and he tells Ezra to tell the people there that they need to go their way (2 Esdras 1:4-9). They thought the burden of the Lord (the reason he didn't come) was because of the stranger wives ( Jeremiah 23:25-40 & Lamentations 2:14). So they put them and their children away. They were wrong. Listen to the prophets he proclaimed came from him (2 Esdras 1:38-39). 2 Esdras 2:1-17, 2 Esdras 2:33-48, 2 Esdras 3:23-4:2, 2 Esdras 5:16-19, 2 Esdras 6:57-59, Psalm 127:1. Either be in captivity still or seek the Lord with all your heart and soul and He will release unto you the wisdom and understanding of His word through your spirit. 2 Chronicles 6:29-33, Ezekiel 47:21-33, Isaiah 56:1-8, etc. etc. there is so much more... Christ comes in the full volume of the book, do not add nor take away. Cherry picking scriptures is of the false teachers who have come to deceive and the Word of God is not in them.

Steve, I've never imagined that Deut 23:18 referred to the trafficking of dogs for profit. Did they even do such a thing in those days? What would have been the demand for dogs at that time? I've always thought of this verse to apply to the preceding verse, in reference to the Sodomites, where both the harlot & male prostitute were great abominations to the Lord. But I do agree, that our furry friends can be the most loving & faithful companions around.

    Concerning "DOGS"

It is interesting to note that the word for "dog" is the Hebrew words "kol" meaning "all" and "leb" meaning "heart."
  • Steve on Deuteronomy 23:18 - 4 years ago
The companionship of dogs is one of God's greatest gifts to mankind. Trafficking in them for profit is as distasteful as prostitution

To Joy Isa.1:18 - Jesus wants us to be reasonable in all things of His word. Jesus came to 'fulfill' the law, yes, but ONLY the moral law; That's why He allowed the 2nd temple to be destroyed in 70 a.d.; because His people would not leave the ceremonial law and turn to Him. And that's why he dispersed them so they couldn't rebuild it. In this life WE are His temple, 1 Cor.6:19-20.
  • Joy on Deuteronomy 23 - 8 years ago
The Law was created and written by God.If he changes not and is not like man that he should lie.Why would his law change or become void through Jesus. After all Jesus came to came to uphold the law not do away with the law.

Antonio G. Read Hebrews 12:6-9 for a full understanding of what a bastard actually is. It is not a child of unwed parents, as Satan's bastards would have you believe. Plainly and simply, God never once created a bastard in any child, but Satan corrupts those who choose to follow him in self-will. In the plainest of language, a bastard is defined in one word . . . SATANIST! See: Deut. 23

Jesus have come to give us life. We need to thank his precious blood that shed for us. We are saved by his grace in the hands of Satan. Our job now is to obey his words and commandments until rapture. Exodus 20.. We need to show our obedience to Jesus as he had showed his perfect obedience to the Father. Meditating God's words day and night are more important and more powerful than prayers. God loves us and always do what is good and avoid doing evil things coz salvation is not for everyone. God will only save for his own people who love him and obey his words and commandments until rapture. Amen and thanks be to God
  • Lilian on Deuteronomy 23 - 9 years ago
Jesus have come to give us life. Thanks to Jesus for sheding his precious blood to us in order for us to have life in abundance. We are save by his Grace and not of what we have done. Our job now is to believe Jesus that he is our Savior and obey his words. Without obedience to his words and be Born Again in Spirit its impossible for us to enter into the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is within us. What a lovely Holy Father and our God is faithful to his words and promises. Because of his mercy and love to us he has anointed us with oil. When God is with us who can be againsts us?.. I will continue praising God and thanking God for everything he have done into our lives for he is worthy to be praised. Amen

Gone to Hell before i was even born what do you think? Christ Jesus died for everyone, including you so that people may not go to hell. Although the Old Testament laws have their reason that being laws set forth for obedience , so us long as one rest upon the Gospel of Christ for salvation, you will be saved and not go to hell.
  • Lucius Speed on Deuteronomy 23 - 10 years ago
No Antonio it dose not mean you can 't go to heaven. That was the big difference between grace and law. for by grace are you save through faith. The law then was set up to keep Israel pure because they were the chosen people God would use to bring and to reveal himself unto man.The only thing that will keep you out of heaven is if you are not born again.God said whosoever will let him come that include all. mercy keep us form what we deserve and grace give us what we don 't deserve. For all have sin and come short of the glory of God.
  • John Kennedy on Deuteronomy 23:18 - 10 years ago
God is holy. He doesn 't accept rewards of the children of men. He abhors unrighteousness and the wages of it. He forbids prostitution and will never receive offerings from cash obtained from the sinfulness of man. He who sells a dog must also like a prostitute never give offerings from money gained from such businesses. These two businesses are alike in the sight of the LORD.
  • Rick Parker on Deuteronomy 23:18 - 10 years ago
One should realize that the word "dog " is an idiom, it refers to the position assumed. 23 18 is saying that prostitutes, whether they be male or female, will not be allowed to make a Vow offering. A vow is a promise or a contract. The Priests, for a fee, were guaranteeing contracts.
  • John Roberts on Deuteronomy 23 - 11 years ago
The second word in verse 2 is not meant to be understood as it is in the modern language one born out of wedlock. The word in the Hebrew language is a Mamzer, check Strong s Concordance 4464 and is also called a mongrel, which is someone that s half of the one of the tribes of Israel and half of a heathen nation, which classified them as hybrids. The reason why hybrids couldn t serve in any leadership capacity in the congregation for ten generations is because it took that long for that tribe s contaminated bloodline to return to its original state of purity.
  • John Roberts on Deuteronomy 23 - 11 years ago
To further comment on verse 2...Since the law of forgiveness that became effective after Christ 's resurrection...Those who are allowed to serve Almighty God is "whomsoever will " !!!

It is very important to understand the economy that is how life was lived versus the ideal of how life was to be lived of any given culture and people The Jews were too live under God s economy This was in stark contrast to what they had seen in Egypt and the natural bend of humans to live No one is condemned to Hell before they are born but to prevent a nation from having a number of children born fatherless this statute was put into place to convince the male and female to not engage is sex and produce a child that will be subject to this statute
  • Ted Grant on Deuteronomy 23:2 - 11 years ago
This is a very harsh rule, but what ever God commands must be GOOD, by definition. If He commanded me to kill all my neighbors, I would have to do it. If He commanded my neighbors to kill me and my family, I would gladly present myself and my family to them and smile with joy whilst they cut off our heads or stone us, what ever seems appropriate to our loving, but just God.

Shalom - Salam - Peace to all.
Strange that we are so concerned with an English translation of God's Word to mankind, don't you think?
After all, in the original this had nothing to do with what our Lord intended for us to reflect on, don't you think?
    Just asking . . ?
  • Jeff jones on Deuteronomy 23:13 - 11 years ago
    God is practical.
To think he shared our humanity and all the expressions of human nature and at the same time in human form to contain the fulness of the GODHEAD is something we fail to acknowledge. Who can take this in? Christ the LORD
  • Mal on Deuteronomy 23 - 11 years ago
We all agree that God's words doesn't come back to him void but when it does not suit us we make excuses. We have as many wars now as back then, the time will come when we all must accept the truth
