Verse 26-The spirit of competition can be strong, but we want to imitate Christ and not be competitive or stir up competition.

a. Faith comes by hearing or reading the Word of God.

d. FAITH is also increased through the actions of God in one's life. When did Paul believe in Jesus? When he saw Him on his way to Damascus. When did Sergius Paulus in Cyprus believe in Paul's preaching? When he saw that sorcerer Elymas getting blind. Acts 13.

Revelation 5: Focus on the seven Spirits of God.

Revelation 4:5 also discusses the seven Spirits of God along with Revelation 5:6. Apparently; Isaiah 11:2 is a commonly referred to cross reference; although technically it involves 6 ministries under the Lord Himself (as the 7th); it does fit in a sort of Menorah picture of how the Spirit operates in the entire corporate Body. We see a further description in Zechariah 4:2-3 of this source (apparently now in heaven); and the two prophets that tap into this power as witnesses throughout the earth in the end times. That can be studied further in Revelation 11.

It would seem that the seven spiritual gifts also would be in play here as to the emphasis given to a given church. This would be seen in Romans 12:6-8. In general; it seems that there are certain strengths and weaknesses that are commonplace depending on what gifts we have and that could factor into the overall situation as to the state of a congregation; what trials a particular congregation may or may not be called to suffer; doctrinal errors that creep in; etc. It is important to see the interdependence here so that the church isn't imbalanced

( 1 Cor. 12:14-16). In fact; we also see seven gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8-11. It is important to differentiate between the fruit of the Spirit (love; joy; peace; longsuffering; etc) in Galatians 5:22-22 which characterizes the lives of all true believers and the particular ministries they have. We can't have one without the other. The common thread; of course is the love of God and brethren as seen in John 13:34-35; and reflected in 1 Corinthians 13 (entire chapter). Apparently; gifts can operate even with immature saints just as some could believe at one time without understanding the indwelling Holy Spirit such in Acts 19:1-4.

In conclusion; God distributes as He will or "severally" ( 1 Cor. 12:11). In obedience because we love Christ ( John 14:15) we have the right attitude to grow.

The ancient greek for "witchcraft"(sorcery) is "pharmakeia". "Pharmakon" in greek means "medicine", But in ancient times it meant "drug" (narcotics) and "poison" as well, since narcotics were made by natural chemicals (herbs) at that time, like medicine were made by herbs too. And since witchcraft was done using herbs as well, in ancient greek it was called "pharmakeia" (not in modern greek). It is not to be mixed up with todays english words like pharmaceuticals, pharmacy etc, which have to do with medicine only.

The Bible doesn't deal specifically with narcotics since in ancient times they were not used by people extensively (probably only for divination, pagan prophesying), or not at all actually. But sorcery was something very common at that time. The Bible does not suggest to keep away from pharmaceuticals, medicine. Evangelist Luke was actually a physician himself.

Thank you bro Giannis for your lengthy reply - & I trust you had a profitable time away. I'll try to deal with the points you raised.

a. Agreed, Galatians is written to believers & in Galatians 5:1, we read of Paul's urgent warning to stand fast in the liberty given by Christ & not be swayed by others to become entangled into legalistic bondage (the Law/circumcision). And so Paul lays out the Truth to these who may be considering/drifting towards this false teaching: 'if your justification comes by obedience to the Law, then God's Grace (salvation) would no longer be yours.' I see this as a warning towards a principal: 'Law & Grace don't mix, so stand fast in Christ's liberty.' Hopefully, those erring Galatians would heed Paul's teaching rather than the false ones, & hold onto the Truth.

But your question would be, 'what about those who don't heed it, won't they fall from God's Grace?' I agree that they would, but did anyone from their midst, come to this sad state of losing their salvation? Or was it simply Paul's warning to the Church about this false doctrine, that righteousness doesn't come by obedience to the Law, therefore don't be fooled by this teaching. And to add, Paul says in verse 10, "I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be." I guess, it depends how one wants to view this passage in Galatians: as a warning against false teachers or as a teaching that salvation can be lost.

Scripture agrees with what Luke has spoken.

For one the law wasn't given to Gentiles it was given to Israel. I wasn't given to JUSTIFY anyone for salvation.

Galatians 5:4. "Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; YE ARE FALLEN FROM GRACE."

It's interesting what you will find in Hebrews when ministering the first covenant. It WASN'T about just being obedient to the 10 commandments, There were services that had to be performed to extreme precision.

There was the high priest that ministered THOSE services under THAT covenant in a WORLDLY sanctuary. The services had to be rendered perfectly but they couldn't make you perfect. They had no effect on the heart of man. Men heart is incurably wicked. The new covenant where Christ is the High priest He came to give you a new Heart and the REST that the old covenant couldn't give. Because no one could keep or be justified by the old covenant.

Why is it that those who desire to add their means of justifying themselves they choose what they think is the easiest to do and not realize in their lusty heart they break the commandments.

James 2:10.

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Matthew 5:27-28.

What should be asked and a great concern is what should salvation look like in a believer because many shall be deceived.

First of all shall you continue in sin?

Paul answers that here in

Romans 6:1-4.

We have been REGENERATED, REBORN, Given a new heart and ready to present Christ work through us. Titus 3:4-6.

We have eternal life now that can bare fruit such as faith ect...

This is what James is saying in James 2:17-18.

What James is saying is he's going to show that this gift is in him by his works. You see a Christian is saved UNTO good works. Ephesians 2:10.

When you are saved, you are baptized into Christ. It is he that works in you. Philippians 2:13.

Also;

Philippians 1:6. Being confident of this very thing, THAT HE WHICH HATH BEGUN A GOOD WORK IN YOU WILL PERFORM IT UNTIL THE DAY OF JESUS CHRIST:

If you can loose your salvation all these scriptures means nothing.

Here's another scripture often used.

John 14:15. "If ye love me, keep my commandments."

Well look at the next verse.

Vs 16. "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, THAT HE MAY ABIDE WITH YOU FOR EVER; This Love is a fruit, so who is causing you to Love Christ? CHRIST SPIRIT, The HG.

Most people say you can loose your salvation also believes you can earn salvation which you can't do. And if they hold to that it's sad to say but the scripture says they have fallen from Grace. Galatians 5:4.

I believe this means comes up short.

Now if you come up short you will hear this. "And then will I profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Matthew 7:23.

I never knew you can never be told to a believer because of this verse. "My sheep hear my voice,.... AND I KNOW THEM,.... and they follow me: John 10:27.

Now if a person have habitual sin in their life, Chances are you're not saved. And you can't loose what you don't have.

Hi Giannis. Just one matter that struck me, from Richards reference to Galatians 5:4 ("falling from grace") & your reference to Hebrews 12:15 ("failing the grace of God"). Both Greek words are different as you know: (ekpipto; hustereo), indicating a different application. One, where those who seek justification by the Law instead of the Grace of God do not have salvation, and the other, those who don't "diligently" look to their manner of living (holiness), will receive the Lord's chastisement & fall short (fail) of God's Grace.

I seem to see a difference here: one where salvation is never possessed because of trusting in the Law, and the other, where salvation is undermined, not enjoying the fullness of God's Grace, receiving chastisement. The Hebrews writer goes on to write about Esau (v16) who relinquished his birthright (akin to a sinner rejecting God's Offer of salvation meant to be received & enjoyed by all, having lost all hope). He then introduces Moses ("him that spake on Earth" v25): if the Israelite disobeyed Moses' warnings, punishment of death ensued. And then to Jesus, the Mediator of the New Covenant (v24): how much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him.

In all these warnings, chastisement of the believer is God's Rod to bring the erring child back into line. But as those who refused to obey Moses under the Law & those who turn away from obeying Jesus under Grace, an untimely death will follow if warnings are not heeded. Some see the "shall we not escape" (v25), indicating that salvation would be lost if we turn away from Christ (as in Esau's rejection), but my question: is the matter of salvation spoken of here, or, the matter of death (as those so judged under Moses)? Does the believer lose his salvation or is he first chastised, even to loss of life, if he refuses to listen (he turns away - his ears/heart) from Jesus? An interesting passage; trying to marry up all the verses associated with it from verses 5 to 25.

Godly sorrow leads to repentance; worldly sorrow to death. ( 2 Cor. 7:10). Note that it also leads to salvation and no regret.

This is illustrated with Peter who clearly knew Christ; but he in a sense had to be "converted" ( Luke 22:32) from the mindset of his old nature. This would be accomplished after the Resurrection and confirmed by the questioning of Christ as to whether he loved Him and the prophesied death for Christ that he would have to endure in the future ( John 21:18).

Judas Iscariot was only sorry for the consequences of what he did and still only saw Christ as the world did; a good man. Satan had held him for years with his greed and of course he betrayed Christ for a pittance: 30 pieces of silver. This suicidal mindset was probably a result of Satan's hypnotic pull suddenly ending; perhaps when whatever human conscience he had finally recovered. There was never any recognition given of Christ's Holiness nor was Judas ever rebuked by Him as Peter often was and no doubt everyone else. He "rebukes all those He loves" ( Rev. 3:19). Even though the other disciples ran away they still stayed from afar to witness what was happening. Judas couldn't face that. It is tragic that he could get to see the Resurrection 3 days later. He only faced an end to all meaningful existence in his mind; not realizing that he then should have sought repentance and a right standing with God. It is the sin nature which is the root cause; and we need to be Born Again to put our old self to death.

Galatians 5:4 discusses "falling from grace" in terms of attempting to follow the law again and whoever breaks it is accursed; where anyone who breaks the law even in one area according to James 2:10 breaks it all. Falling from grace would mean once trusting in grace then going back to the law; hence never really having a salvation experience where we are enlightened to grace being needed and our own helpless ability to follow the Lord. (see Romans 8:5-8).

This is one of Scripture's truly great promises about what it means to be in Christ. Paul has been giving thanks to God for all the amazing things He has done for the Christians in Corinth. Everything he has mentioned is true of all Christians.

Reading these words, it's important to notice that nothing Paul has written mentions anything the Corinthians themselves have done. God has done it all, in and for them, as a free gift because of their faith in Christ. The rest of Paul's letter will show that as individuals and as a church, these believers in Corinth struggle with major spiritual problems. They are indulging in attitudes and actions that are sinful. Still, Paul writes the words of this verse to them and to all who are in Christ. God will not stop giving the Corinthians His good gifts. He will not stop sustaining them, keeping them going, holding them together. They will remain guiltless or blameless in His eyes all the way to the return of Christ on the day of the Lord.

How is this possible? Why would God do this? God's grace to us is rightly called "amazing." For those who come to Him by faith, God receives Christ's death as payment for our sins and gives us credit for Christ's righteous, sinless life on earth ( Romans 5:6-11). That's why, instead of dreading the return of Christ, Christians can wait for it with eager hopefulness ( Galatians 5:5; Romans 8:19-25).

Hello Jim. Galatians 5:1-4 was written by the Apostle Paul about those who wanted to remain in the Grace of God yet expected that obedience to the Law justified them as well. Paul said that if trusting in the Law to save, then God's Grace is ineffective - the two cannot be mixed - they stand in opposition to each other.

Dear Christina, In James 4:7 the Bible says, Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Do not argue with him. Whatever you are being tempted to do, rebuke him with a Scripture that teaches you not to fall to that temptation.

An example can be found in Luke 4:2-4

2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Plus, a lot of our difficulties arise from unconfessed sin and not doing God's will. We all have pet sins.

Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Search your heart, confess your sins to God, and repent--turn away from them.

Psalms 139:23, 24 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Psalm 25:4 Show me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.

You have received some helpful comments already, but I wish to add these thoughts prompted by reading your question and the replies:

First, In my mind, a rephrasing of your question may be helpful. Are you saying that yes, we are saved by faith, not good works, but are good works still important in the life of a believer?

To this question, I would answer. Correct, we are saved by God through His outpouring of grace by faith gifted to us by Him. And, yes, good works are important in the life of a believer. They are, as Jessie states, the result of the working of the Holy Spirit indwelling in us after conversion. Yet, I will add, in order for the Holy Spirit to cause us to abound in good works, we do have to use our will and actions to cooperate with the Holy Spirit to allow Him to work in us and through us.

If we yield and cooperate with the Holy Spirit (which is a choice to walk with the Spirit) we will produce the fruits listed in Galatians 5:22. The Holy Spirit does not take over us and force us to do good works. He creates in us a desire to love what is good and hate what is evil. He creates in us a deep desire to obey like Jesus did, who never sinned. Our natural body, mind, and soul all work with the Holy Spirit to do these good works. It is the sinful nature in use that works in us to tempt us to do evil works.

We have both the Holy Spirit and the sinful nature in, it is a constant battle within us to choose which we will allow to reign in each action, thought, and motive brought forth in our mortal, natural being. With the indwelling Holy Spirit, we have the power of grace to overcome sin in any given moment and choose God's way. But, even so, the sinful nature is still within us and we give in to it at times. In these times, we are to do what John says in 1 John 1: to confess to God that we have sinned and ask for forgiveness, knowing He will always forgive us and cleanses us from all unrighteousness.

Genesis 24 is the best love story in the Bible. If we pray and truly submit ourselves to the Lord to choose a mate for us_it can happen for us. But we have to be patient. God knows the secrets of the heart.

Repent for past bad choices. Just confess what comes from your heart. He already knows about it. People say that confession brings joy. Then Ask God to bring you TO your husband.

You will find him in a Church. It wastes days of life, to choose an unsaved man and hope that he will become a Christian too. It just hardly works that way.

Join singles classes, maybe sing with the choir. Trust God to bring you, to your husband.

In Jewish culture, a couple are betrothed for a year; keeping themselves pure and set apart for each other. A gift is given like necklaces. At the end of that year, the wedding takes place.

Going to church can be more fun if you join in the above mentions and more! :) Some Churches have baseball games and everyone can join a team. If it's your first time, don't worry, people are generous in showing us how to get started.

Sometimes churches host camp outs. It's good clean fun.

Do read that chapter in the Bible. Pray to God. Be patient. Trust Him.

Important to read all scripture in its full context, not just cherry pick. When reading in context its obvious from countless passages, parables, teachings that God wants us to obey him! Satan deceives believers into assuming doing evil is ok; it's not.

On Romans 2:11 onwards. The apostle is writing about God not showing respect (or, partiality) between Jews & Gentiles. Those who have sinned without having the Law (i.e. Gentiles), will perish not having received the Law (God's Laws to Israel). Likewise, those sinning having the Law (i.e. Jews) will be judged by that Law (& of course, they will fail, for the Law made no one righteous, but only showed their sinfulness). Only the doers of the Law will be justified. So, what Law(s) can be kept perfectly to justify us before God? None, for all have sinned - & the Law only revealed the sin & extent of that sinful condition to the Jew.

Only faith in Jesus can save both Jew & Gentile. Those who keep God's Laws acceptably, are those who have the Holy Spirit & who are living out their lives through Him & by His Power ( Romans 8:1; Galatians 5:25). Both Jew & Gentile who are saved through Christ, are no longer bound to the Law that only brought death, but live in the power & joy of the Holy Spirit, Who helps us live beyond the Letter of the Law, living according to the dictates of the Spirit.

Lastly, one can never do enough for the Lord. How much is ever enough? But, if you're a praying person wanting to use the opportunities God lays upon your heart or directs you to, then every place you go to & every person you meet, may be what the Lord wants for you to share something of His Goodness. Any sense of cowardice will disappear - for the Lord will be your strength ( 2 Timothy 1:7) & your mouth - remembering your witness & life will be the catalyst for someone to become serious about his eternal well-being. You may be God's man for God's special moment in another person's life.

Vs.17) "Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ."

Israel "as a nation" regects Christ work on the cross so as of now the have yet to join in that rest.( Yet they honor the Sabbath!)

That rest comes after salvation. Not to obtain it.

If one wants to observe the sabbath go ahead, but if you do it to earn salvation you fall in the same unbelief as Israel.

The Galatians was warned of the same thing in Galatians 5:4. "Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace."

Salvation is not for sell its a gift. Ephesians 2:8-9. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

The term "Thou shalt love" is not in command form. That is a Future Active Indicative in the Greek text. It is not a command. It is a factual statement. You will love!

Believers are supposed to love one another. But, neither in the Old Testament, nor in the New Testament, is it in command form.

As a matter of fact, the command in the Old Testament is YOU WILL love the Lord your God, and YOU WILL love your neighbor as yourself. It is a factual statement!

It all centers around where the commands came from, Deuteronomy Chapter 6 that has the SHEMA, the prayer that is prayed every morning and evening by Orthodox Jews.

In that prayer, they recite the fact that God says that I will put my Spirit in you, and I will put my laws on your heart, and YOU WILL love the Lord your God.

We are told inGalatians 5:22that love, AGAPE, is a fruit of God's Spirit.

In 1 John Chapter 4, it tells us that God is love. Now if I focus on the fact that God is love, and I've been commanded to love, and God is love, then what am I to do? Give you God, because He is love. Love is a person. Love is the nature of God!

In my human abilities, or in my human effort, I cannot produce God's nature of love. I can't produce that!

And as I said, Galatians 5:22tells us it is a fruit. It is produced by God's Spirit, just like faith, and all the other ingredients that make up the fruit of the Spirit. Some continue to take scriptures out of context and put pressure on themselves to produce these things, when the bible says no.

The bible says point-blank that if you're not loving your brother, then you don't know God!

If you do not have AGAPE love in you, you are not saved. That is what the bible says.

A precious gem given by a dear Brother which is widely held by true believers.

Humility is the opposite of pride.

God says He resists the proud, but He is always on the side of the humble. "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate" Proverbs 8:13.

John tells us that "the pride of life-is not of the Father but is of the world" ( 1 John 2:16). Where does the pride of life come from? If there is anything that comes from the devil, that is it.

Even our salvation should spoken of with humility, It is something about which to glorify God. It should humble you being you had no part in it.

Paul writes, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus" Philippians 2:5.

What kind of mind did He have? Lowliness of mind. He said, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle meek] and lowly in heart. Matthew 11:29.

Pride is destroying the testimony of many Christians and has made them ineffective for God. They go in for show and draw people after themselves but they are building nothing more than wood hay and stubble.

Jesus tought a lesson in Humility in John 13:8-15. ( Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.

For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.)

Matthew 23:11-12. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:25-26.

I felt led to address the phrase you used when addressing GiGi. It was a phrase use by Jesus when addressing the Sadducees, who appearing to twist the story from Tobit, because it clearly says "before they had lien with her". Tobit 3:8, Jesus went on to rebuke & say Mark 12:24,27 Also in Matthew 22:29,
