THERE WAS QUARREL BETWEEN ABRAM AND LOT BUT ABRAM WAS MORE MATURE BY MAKING PEACE WITH LOT AND GOD BLESS ABRAM WE SHOULD LEARN TO IGNORE INSULT AND MAKE PEACE WITH ONE ANOTHER SO THAT GOD CAN BLESS US
When God told Abraham in Genesis 12 1 3 to leave for a place an unknown place later identified as Canaan , he was not told to take anybody outside his nuclear family along. No wonder there was strife with Lot 's his nephew herdsmen later. This lesson to me shows we must try our possible best to follow God 's specific instructions and not just rely on our feelings and emotions. Where we are not sure or clear, it is better to take the matter back to God to get the full details. Presumption could lead to undue stress, strife and problems. However, God uses our experiences to teach us deep truths about Himself and all around us. May God help us to follow the specific divine revelations He has given us for our lives in Jesus Name.
Walking by faith is the Only gateway to peace, joy, rest and the solid Christian life. Walking by faith means we are working by the revealed word of God and not by just mere feelings. If we walk with God in spirit and in truth, He has the Capacity to make us overtake our peers and even our seniors on scales of greatness. Some things have been popping out at me, this is my first read through, and I am seeing things that make me do a Keanu, and go WHOA... Parenthesis mine In verse 16 this "And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth As Adam? so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. " Point being, read those last lines closely. "so that is a man mankind can number the dust of the earth. " What is 'the dust of the earth '? Easy. What is DUST? Answer Particulate matter. PARTICLES OF MATTER. God, was telling man Abraham, who 's seed he shall make 'as Adam ' about the Periodic Table of Elements 4000 years ago! And the last line "then shall thy seed also be numbered. " IMO, this is PROPHECY. God is telling Abraham about the numbering of his descendants during WW2. Don 't see the connection? According to wiki, the periodic table of elements became widely distributed in the 1930 's. What else happened then? The forced numbering of the descendants of Abraham!
I think it 's very important to understand that their was hardly any communication barriers between the Lord and Abraham. This is the relationship we should all strive for so. "How " is the key. When we read of the land of Goshen, in future chapters, we should not forget this part of the historical timeline. Pharaoh gave the area to Sarah as an engagement/wedding gift so in actual fact when all the house of Jacob went down to Egypt, during the great drought period, they were relocated in the area that had, in any case, been given to the" Arch Matriarch" of the Israelites….. Sarah !
@Joanna...Ishmael was of the seed of Abraham and Ishmael has inhabited the land promised, but the land of Canaan was given to the seed of Isaac through Jacob(Israel) and Jacobs ten sons and two grandsons(the two sons of Joesph) Ephraim and Manasseh. They were the children of Israel in bondage in Egypt for over 400 years. Read the book of Exodus. So, Jerusalem and Israel was given to the children of Jacob(Israel).

Abram is given the promise that all the land that he can see, Jehovah God will give it to his seed forever. The promise was to Isaac, as he was the promised child to Sarah. In Christ we are the seed of Abraham by faith, and thus decedents of the promise. So this alone is the basis to resolve the Arab and Israeli conflict. When we are born again in the Lord Jesus Christ we are joint heirs with Him, and will receive the blessings that God promised to Abraham. The blood of Christ has made us alive, to a new hope, and covenant. This will come to pass will the kingdoms of this world, will become the kingdoms of our Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ.
In Genesis 13:15 God says he will give all the land Abram sees to his seed forever...and words to that effect in the surrounding verses. Abrams seed includes Ishmeal and Isaac. Does this not mean that both the jewish poeples (descendants of isaac) and the Arabic (descendents of Ishmael) shall inherit the land. Not only the Jews? Thank you.

Genesis 13 actually reveals Abraham as a man of humility when he, though older, gave his young nephew the opportunity of choosing first. Any normal older person would want to choose first. Lot, on the contrary was without respect. He is proud and void of godliness at this point. Little wonder he lost almost every thing he gained when with Abraham.

The choices we make in life have great impact and significant role to play in our lives. Lot was given an opportunity to choose a dwelling place. Genesis 13:9 is not the whole land before thee? Lot lifted up his eyes and saw the plain of Jordan well watered. The thought of encountering little or no challenge must have been one of the reasons why he chose that place. At the end he lost all his possessions, his wife and his daughters made him to commit incest with them. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart: and lean not unto thine own understanding, In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6.
we should avoid conflicts as believers. we should avoid conflicts in the family as husband and wife or as sisters and brothers or as relatives. if you see that something is going to bring conflicts,leave it to the other. let us be willing to let go and give the other party the first priority in the end God will give us even more as he did with Abraham because he is always watching, and pleased when we do what is right. he even blesses us for doing right
