    2 Corinthians 13:12

Greet one another with an holy kiss.

    1 Thessalonians 5:26

Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.

    Luke 7:45

Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.

    Romans 16:16

Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.

    1 Corinthians 16:20

All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.

    Genesis 27:26

And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.

    1 Peter 5:14

Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Proverbs 27:6 - Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

    2 Peter 1:7

And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

    Hebrews 13:1

    Let brotherly love continue.

    1 Thessalonians 4:9

But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

    Romans 12:10

    Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

1 Corinthians 16:14 Let all your things be done with charity. 1 John 3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

Colossians 3:5 - Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Comment by Mishael: Amongst Church members, I would hope that we don't judge each other's greetings.

In our present culture we seem to be hyper aware of any kind of sexual harassment.

Inside of our Church setting we should be able to greet each other with a handshake and squeeze on the arm without a problem.

Rather than be shocked by standoffness, try to discern the other persons body language. We are naturally hyper now due to Covid-19 and Variant fears. It is, what it is.

    Genesis 27:41

And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said IN HIS HEART, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I SLAY my brother Jacob.

    Romans 9:13

As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

    Malachi 1:3

And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.

    Obadiah 1:18

And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

    KJV Commentary: Esau

Hairy, Rebekah's first-born twin son ( Gen. 25:25). The name of" "Edom, "red", was also given to him from his conduct in" "connection with the red lentil "pottage" for which he sold his" "birthright (30, 31). The circumstances connected with his birth" foreshadowed the enmity which afterwards subsisted between the "twin brothers and the nations they founded (25:22, 23, 26). In" "process of time JACOB following his natural bent, became a" "shepherd; while Esau, a "son of the desert," devoted himself to" the perilous and toilsome life of a huntsman. On a certain "occasion, on returning from the chase, urged by the cravings of" "hunger, Esau sold his birthright to his brother, Jacob, who" "thereby obtained the covenant blessing ( Gen. 27:28, 29, 36; Heb." "12:16, 17). He afterwards tried to regain what he had so" "recklessly parted with, but was defeated in his attempts through" "the stealth of his brother ( Gen. 27:4, 34, 38)." "At the age of forty years, to the great grief of his parents, he "married ( Gen. 26:34, 35) two Canaanite maidens,

Esau tried to conciliate his" "parents ( Gen. 28:8, 9) by marrying his cousin Mahalath, the" daughter of Ishmael. This led him to cast in his lot with the "Ishmaelite tribes (present day Palestinians) and driving the Horites out of Mount Seir, he" settled in that region.
  • Jacob and Esau GENESIS 27 - In Reply on Genesis 27 - 4 years ago
    Read the whole chapter.

    Genesis 27:30

And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

    Genesis 27:35

And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty (deception), and hath taken away thy blessing.

    Genesis 27:36

And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

    Genesis 27:38

And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

    Genesis 27:41

And ESAU HATED Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I SLAY my brother Jacob.

    Comment by Mishael:

Esau gave away his birthright for a bowl of stew.

Just thinking about his stomach...also, it angered God that he did that.

Rachel engineered the taking of the Blessing.

Esau planned to murder Jacob. God saw that.

Later, Esau left the family and married a non-Jewish woman and lived amongst her people.

I read something earlier this year that indicated that his descendants still live outside of Israel. I have no opinion on that, even tho I read a ton of Google following his descendants.

I do not know if modern American culture follows ancient customs of Israel. Perhaps in Jewish communities?

  • Chris - In Reply on Hosea 1 - 4 years ago
Hi Daniel, I suppose that Jacob (Israel) figures more prominently throughout Scripture than Esau, so churches tend to emphasize his 'bad' character. However, Esau was equally to blame for handing over his birthright ( Hebrews 12:16) & then after Isaac's blessing was given to Jacob, throwing a tantrum over his loss.

Yet we also need to bear in mind Genesis 25:21-23. Here, we see that Rebekah enquired of the Lord about the "struggle she was experiencing in her womb". And the Lord spoke about the twins there & how the elder twin would one day serve the younger. It seems that Isaac wasn't aware of this Word from God, or else he, in his old age, had forgotten about it ( Genesis 27:33-37). And of course, Rebekah herself was right in the middle of this debacle & was equally guilty. So none of them are innocent in all this & yet God used the weaknesses of people (their fleshly desires & schemes) to fulfil His Purposes. Maybe, churches & Sunday Schools need to relate the complete story & learn from the mistakes of others & of course, the sovereignty of God.

I couldn't find the one that says our death is recorded.

    Jeremiah 1:5

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

    Jeremiah 20:17

Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave,

    Hosea 12:3

For there are some eunuchs, which I were so born from their mother's womb (birth defects) and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men (forced celibacy) and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs (celibate)for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

    Psalms 139:16

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD [is] the death of his saints.

    Genesis 27:2

And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:

    Psalms 48:14

For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death

The bible never speaks of infant baptism. You can be baptized again as an adult. Just a couple of things to know. Baptism (Water baptism) has no part in your salvation. A person is baptized after they get saved as an outward expression of an inward change. In other words, it shows a testimony that that you have received Christ, that you died of your sin, was buried with Him, and rose to a new life in Christ.
  • Lori Lawrence on Genesis 27:3 - 5 years ago
I am wondering about baptism. I was Baptised when I was a baby. Do I need to be Baptised as an adult? I am a reborn Christian June 2, 2014.

Why exactly would someone take a hunter education class if they didn't believe in hunting to begin with?
  • Chris on Genesis 27 - 5 years ago
We believe, according to the Word, that God is an Omniscient God; that He is All-Knowing. Otherwise, He wouldn't be God, the Creator and Sustainer of all things. In the case of Gen 27, Jacob supplanted his brother Esau by impersonating him and receiving the blessing of the first-born. Isaac was fooled by Jacob's trickery, Esau was broken and angry, but God, in His Wisdom, had a special plan for Jacob, who was later named Israel. God's Will & Purposes are never thwarted even if we sin and let Him down in our lives. Yes, we will suffer for our wrong, as Jacob did, but God's Plans are perfect and far-reaching and beyond the scope and imagination of our finite and fickle minds.

So maybe someone can clarify something I cant seem to find online..... God gives us free right. Which has me wondering how he knows predictions like this? In some stories he gets hurt due to others actions that he did not forsee. So how did he know Jacob would come to rule over Esau?

Matthew 22:14 , Jonah (entire book),
Maybe it's a perspective of when others around you sin.

Remember in GENESIS 25: 23 The Lord said to her, Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger. "THE OLDER WILL SERVE THE YOUNGER Jacob even was holding onto Esau's heel as if to hold him back. Before their births, God knew that Esau's descendants would become enemies of Israel for generations to come and He knew Jacob was a man of integrity. He had preordained that Jacob would be in the lineage of Jesus.

I am sure that God could deliver the birthright, which did belong to Jacob by being the firstborn, without the deceptions brought on by Rebekah and Jacob. But that is something we will not be able to know. If God had been trusted, Rebekah would not have lost Jacob.
  • Stanjett - In Reply on Genesis 27 - 5 years ago
Jesus was first .He wasn't rejected. But I get what you are saying once we are born again second birth we are accepted. And you may even say Jesus was born again the third day after he was buried.

And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?

What other brethren did Jacob have besides Esau?
  • Obbie Beal on Genesis 27 - 6 years ago
In the book of 'James' we are instructed to ask GOD for 'his wisdom'... because, as we see in this chapter the subtle-deception shall come; whether it come from mother, farther, brother, sister, friends, government,... BUT GOD's wisdom will enable one to both, recognize and /or prepare our heart, mind, soul, for that hour... WOW! WOW! WOW!

  • Jim Louttit on Genesis 27 - 7 years ago
God favour Jacob over Esau. But all the main people in this story tried to overrule God's plan by their own plans. God is sovereign and His way is sure and will rule in the end. Everyone pays for their deception in the end. Esau loses his birthright and blessing. Rebekah loses Jacob because she gets him cheat and jJacob has to flee because he went along with his mother and cheated His brother.

End of Daily Bible Reading for this day. Join in. I like to read along as I listen to the audio version. Being an heir is important. Being a co-heir is what believers should strive to be. The firstborn son was important because of the birthright attached to it, but Esau didn't see it that way. To him the birthright only had value if he could use it for his own purpose: not for God or family.

Verses 28-30: Esau had sold his birthright earlier to Jacob so when he received the blessing from Isaac, it was rightfully his to receive.

All the events that happened in this chapter was because of the Isaac. It was made clear before the birth of the twins that elder will serve the younger. Isaac was well aware that God has chosen Jacob but he chose Esau on the ground of food. Isaac became a carnal believer because he tried to change the decision of God. This rebellion upon the Word of God is the reason for those evil deeds.
  • Matt on Genesis 27 - 8 years ago
Jacob was meant to get the blessing and become Israel. I wouldn't feel too sorry for Esau, because he didn't care about God. He sold his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of lentils in Gen. 25 v. 29-34. He also had two wives that were satanic (Hittite), which further shows he didn't care about God. That is why God hated Esau and loved Jacob (Mal. ch. 1

Need to read the whole story, God promised Jacob the blessing but like all man he did it his way, and paid a price for it. Esa didn't want any part of God, same today. Isaac was like Most Church Leaders today, they seem to follow that same path. ? What is that word??? Oh yeah, PRIDE

I felt so badly in this story for Esaw because his brother Jacob stole his blessing. This is an example living in to days life. It doesn't make since to take some thing that is not ours in a forceful manner. When we steel something it become such curse in our lives. Both Rebekah and Jacob coveted Esaws, blessings and they were in trouble of being very dishonest.
