    Andre - actually, time is not endless. It originated with the cosmic burst we refer to as the Big Bang. We also have a good idea of how the earth was formed. We also know that the earth was here for billions of years before large animals evolved which eventually led to the development of mammals, which includes our species homo-sapiens. I stand corrected if you say this is consistent with Christian doctrine. I don't think it is since the Christian right is trying to have "intelligent design" become part of our children's science curriculum in public schools.
  • André on Genesis 6 - 13 years ago
    @Peter,
    Yes, there are evidences of fossils dated millions of years, and those might not be the oldest ones, because time is endless. And the Bible happily does not ignore such evidences, neither does it deny them. Yes such evidences are true, and the Bible acknowledges them.
    Genesis 1:1, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
    Genesis 1:2, And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
    God created the heavens and earth in Genesis 1:1, and in Genesis 1:2, the earth was without form. God could not create it without form, but it became without form (upside down).
    So what caused that? It is the fall of Satan along with his army that brought all such disturbance and quenched all life on earth.
    And in Genesis 1:3, God starts bringing things back to order.
    So those fossils discovered every now and then belong to the period between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2.
    So God is not in contradiction with such discoveries. In fact they confirm the turmoil consecutive to Satan’s fall.
    God bless you.
  • Peter on Genesis 6 - 13 years ago
    Andre, thanks for clearing that up for me. I was under the impression that marsupials, like all animals, evolved over millions of years, which is supported by overwhelming evidence in the fossil record and confirmed through DNA research. And there actually are people who believe that scientific nonsense. But let us not judge them harshly. For some mysterious reason, God must put this evidence there to test our faith. Or else he just enjoys playing practical jokes on smart people.

    @Peter,
    Nothing shows that kangaroos never existed anywhere else except Australia. But all animals that exist today, except the aquatic ones, originated from the ark of Noah after the floods. And later spread on the surface of the earth, prospering is some areas and decimating in others, depending on environment hospitality.
    God bless you.
  • André on Genesis 6 - 13 years ago
    @Aggie,
    Verse 1 clearly states that men begun to multiply (and they could only multiply with women).
    So it is very clear that daughters were born from couples.
    God bless you.
  • Peter on Genesis 6 - 13 years ago
    Andre, thank you for explaining that. Now it makes perfect sense. One more question. How did kangaroos get to the ark ? I thought they lived in Australia?
  • Aggie on Genesis 6:1 - 13 years ago
    If daughters were just being born to them, then who were they having all these children with??
  • André on Genesis 6 - 13 years ago
    @Peter,
    Only animals and birds that were threatened by the floods could be taken into the ark of Noah. All that could survive the floods had no need of protection into the Ark.
    God made Mosquitos and Cobras as aids to mankind, but with man’s fall in the Garden of Eden, man lost supremacy over most of livestock, which went wild. And today we face some of them as threats to man. However God always makes a way for us as believers to the end that we can overcome all such threats, not always in facing them, like Daniel and the Apostle Paul did, and some others servants of God; but as we trust God and walk under His guidance, care and protection, God keeps such threats away from our way, or (God) tells us about our safety.
    Because God is love, He makes a way even where there seems to be no way, for His people.
    God bless you.
  • Peter on Genesis 6 - 13 years ago
    Did Noah bring two tapeworms on the ark? I wish he would have left them off. Also cobras, and Mosquitos. Why did God even make those things in the first place?
  • Clement on Genesis 6 - 13 years ago
    May the Lord help us to know Him better. It is God's mercy and grace that has been keeping this generation. This chapter has significant relevance to what the world is today, regarding all aspects of our lives, particularly the wicked nature of man. Lord, I pray thee help us to know you and serve you better, to make the world a peaceful place for us in Jesus name.

    The earth was much different before the Flood-the crystalline firmament produced oxygen rich atmosphere. This seventh layer above the ionosphere-consisting of ice-held in place by the magnetic field-would have fallen in the Flood. Ice suspended above the earth's atmosphere that blocked some UV light-also caused an increase in air pressure-the oxygen rich air kept the people and the animals-all vegans by the way-healthy for hundreds of years-thus the giants were the natural race of the creation. God said eat of every plant, the animals did too, they were not ferocious man eaters like the scoffers told us they were merely insects et all that lived for long periods of time and never stopped growing-they were not dinosaurs then but dragons-the fiery breath has also been imposed on us as educational lies-elitists especially Smithsonian Institute does not want anyone to believe in God Creation, because they need to keep people confused and in rebellion with God and each other for their satanic goals they set-God laughs at them!!!
  • Jay Thom on Genesis 6 - 13 years ago
    I read Genesis 3:5 and that sums up a lot of the understanding of Satan’s goal to destroy the gene pool as to prevent Jesus from being born. Redeemer and Savior, as stated. Enoch 7th from Adam and earthly father of Methuselah, walked with God and was taken by God but also had a book as well (the Book of Enoch) reportedly found with the dead sea scrolls but not included in the Bible as some man decided not to include. But the light came on several months ago and I really discovered some new area's. My point being when you consider all the different area's it talks of the corrupt things done before the flood, here is the beginning. The fallen Angels (stars-messengers) who with earthly women produced the GIANTS (10-18 feet tall, men of renowned, men of ole). Then look at what our government and other countries are doing with DNA splicing and creating some of these creatures as shown on Egyptian Hieroglyphics. I believe in Satan’s attempt to destroy the gene pool, again as to prevent the return of the Redeemer-Savior-Jesus Christ, he is the one behind all this, he was then and is now. But I find the beginning of Genesis 6 to be the most informative. Just my opinion based on a lot of research and Bible versus that are found in Jude, James, I and II Corinthians.
  • JOHN on Genesis 6 - 13 years ago
    THUS GOLIATH. GIANTS AMONG MEN.
  • Tay on Genesis 6 - 13 years ago
    @Kevin, verse 11, I thought the same thing for a second but what I think is trying to be said is the earth was corrupt before (or in front of) God- not before (time) God. Of course I'm open to any different view.
  • André on Psalms 90 - 13 years ago
    @Neil,
    In Genesis 6:3, GOD sets man’s lifetime at 120 years. And in Psalms 90:10, it says The days of our years are ..70, … 90 years. This seems to be a conflict, but it is not one actually. Because in Genesis 6:3 GOD sets a limit at 120 years, which does NOT necessarily means everybody will live out to that age, and in Psalms 90:10, in this prayer Moses is observing that ‘’the days of our years are 70 to 90 years’’, this is what Moses often sees, but Moses himself lived 120 years ( Deuteronomy 34:7).
    However GOD’s grace and mercy are beyond any limitation, because Noah himself lived 950 years ( Genesis 9:29), and that was after life limitation which took place in Genesis 6:3. So let’s stick to GOD’s grace and mercy.
  • André on Genesis 7 - 13 years ago
    @Peter,
    Of course there was not such a story like Santa Claus's sled. Not only the possibility of containing pairs of species and even seven pairs of pure ones could be questioned sense knowledge wise, but also the means to bring them to Noah and finally in (not ON) the Ark. All such are questions that need answers.
    Now you can find the dimensions of the Ark in Genesis 6:15, and convert them to our current measuring units to see how unthinkably huge was that ship… But how did Noah manage to draw pairs of each specie in the Ark? It is unimaginable, but above all we can understand, GOD was in charge of HIS own business, Noah was there just for implementation, but the project was GOD’s…
    GOD bless you.

    To Ray McKendry: The son's of God are the one third Angels that were cast out of Heaven. They transformed themselves into men & had their way with the daughters of men. Their intentions were to breed out mankind, that is why there were giants upon the Earth.
  • Debbera on Genesis 6 - 13 years ago
    I believe God told Cain in Genesis 4:7 what his end would be. If thou doest well, shall thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall he his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. I believe this is why Jesus kept on impressing on Peter asking him do you love me. When Jesus started to wash the feet of his disciples Peter told him not my feet Lord. Jesus told him if I wash not your feet you have no inheritance with Me. Peter said wash my hands, every part. The Lord told just your feet.
  • RAY MCKENDRY on Genesis 6:5 - 13 years ago
    I think Gen 6:5 is a text that comes from before the fall and before the promises made to Noah and mankind by God regarding Him not destroying the earth via a general flood again. ( Gen 9:11) Gen 6:5 is a difficult verse to interpret because of its context which includes "sons of God" and "giants on the earth" (NKJV). Why does this make any difference? Simply because Bible critics have always thought it falls into the realms of "myth." As they say Gen Ch.1-11 do!
    I do not believe it's myth; not even technically myth (muthos). But that does mean I understand what the "sons of God" were or why there were giants or what significance the giants were to salvation, man's character, or God's intention in creation.
    However, verse 5 tells us that God was finished with mankind and this gives us the explanation why. Man was corrupt to the extent that God was sorrowful and wanted to start again! It seems amazing but He did restart mankind via the flood scenario which was universal. Only 8 people survived the flood and they were far from perfect for they still contained within themselves the seeds of sin and proved this soon after the flood was over. ( Gen 9:21 Noah got drunk and naked and later the people built the Tower of Babel which God stopped and scattered the people. Gen 11:1-9.)
    The doctrine of human depravity is clearly displayed here. It is clear that we have sinned and because we thus display that we all have a sinful nature, we need a sacrifice to appease God whose holy anger burns against us. This sacrifice was revelaed later in the Bible as Jesus Christ. Thank God for His indescribable gift! We all need Him as our Saviour and we need to repent and put our trust in Him.

    @lightening:

    Butch is right and he delineated his reasoning directly from unmolested scripture. You and another poster stated how your reasoning is short-sighted in each of your own statements. You said, "The LORD HIMSELF stated [...are like the angels in Heaven who neither marry...]. Exactly-in Heaven. Why is Cain not mentioned in Adam's lineage? Also, if you notice, Cain's sons became the fathers of all worldly things-metal working, music, etc. Where did they get the knowledge to do so if Cain was hidden from God? Further, the same "Sons of God" are spoken of in the old and new testament in reference to fallen angels.

    Nowhere in the Bible does it ever say that all angels are in heaven or that they cannot conform to earthly bodies (see Sodom and Gomorrah where they tried to rape the angels).
  • Lonnie on Genesis 6:2 - 14 years ago
    Butch is right. Basically Wesley is saying that the godly line (Seth) mingled with the ungodly cain and this union produced giants. There is no godly line, if the line of seth is so godly then how come Noah and his family were the only ones on the ark? I believe the sons of God are angels no other interpretation makes sense.
  • Lightening on Genesis 6:2 - 14 years ago
    Butch: Jennifer and Wesley have it right. You do greatly err knowing neither the Scripture nor the power of God...for those who die in Christ are like the angels in Heaven who neither marry nor are given away in marriage. You never read that passage did you? The LORD HIMSELF stated this. If fallen angels are called by Scripture "the sons of God" then there is no reason for a Savior to go to the cross and die for our sins. Ya knucklehead.
  • Ace on Genesis 6 - 14 years ago
    Verse 6 repented means to change one mind , God changed his mind about man but saw the righteousness in Noah and saved man kind. God saw the wickedness in man in which was not to be in the plan of salvation.

    Response to John: God did create the earth and the sun and everything else.It is stated in the bible that He did this. IN the beginning is where He starts explaining in chapter 1 in the book of Genesis. Alot of time has passed since then so of course things will be a little different alot different.Thanks to our intelligence that He gave us.He created the earth first then He created the sun on the fourth day of His creation process. When Bod first made light it was just light at first in Benesis chapter 1 verse 3 Bod said,"Let there be light:"and then there was light. So later on the fourth day of His creation process He made the sun,moon,and stars.In Genesis chapter 1 verse 14-And God said,"Let there e lights in the firmament(sky)of the heaven to divide the day form the night and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years. verse 15-And le them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth:and it was so." Verse 16-And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the daym and the lesser light to rule the night.:[He made] the stars also. Verse 17-And Bod set them in the firmament of the heaven ot give light upon the earth, Verse 18-And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness:and God saw that [it was] good.Verse 19-And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. So in verse 18 is the sun and moon. The way how everything in this earth is just right and balanced like how we need oxygen and plants and trees need carbon dioxide so we breath in the oxygen and plants breath in our carbon dioxide for example or how we have inteligence has to come from somethingl That is th power of the LORD. He loves you and all of us. U need failth. Its so beautiful once you experience it. And Gos knows everything.. There is no way any one could even grasp that amount of knowledge.He only gave us a small amount.Us people will never know everything, Its impossible-there will always be a question that only He knows that you may fimd out after you die. We are not suppose to know everything we can't handle it. Because it si too great. And for those who believe in evoulution that is false. Why aren't we seeing with our very own eyes things transforming shouldn't there be some sort of proof especially with all our technology and discoveries and knowledge why haven't we found any proof its just a theory and its wrong..there actually has been proof from the bible like the dead sea scrolls and artifacts etc etc. so ppl believe a theory with no proof over a bible written from the beginnig of time with proof and never disappeared in time it stuck around because it is with the power of God's word and His promises. sorry but i don't see how evolution could just stop. cuz if it were true wouldn't the fish or monkeys or whatever would be turning in front of us still it would just keep going round and round and why stop her. thousands of years ago wht all of a sudden there are ppl and it stops. dosen't even make sense and evolutionist always try to use big words to sound smart whenn its just a bunch of jibberis i don['t know nothing about jubilee years but that doesnt mean that there is meaning or reasons for interpretations of what is being said. Ppl who don't God in there lives or Jesus is because the chose not to. He gave us free will so we can chose to love Him isn't that better to be loved by choice rather than force thats really not love then isn't it. YOu have to invite God into your life for Him to exist for you. You have to accept Jesus as your Savior and know that He died onthe cross for our sins ..we should be more grateful than we are. sorry i got carried away but there is just so much evil and sadness in this world and evryone wants to blame others or God when we are the ones being sinful bringing this bad upon ourselves. We need more faith, love, and hope than hatred and mean and evil
  • Timothy Wayne George on Genesis 6 - 14 years ago
    As for the verse that says "it repented God that he had made man" God does not make mistakes, and he provided for man an escape from the flood which was to judge man for his sin. Noah was found to be righteous in the eyes of God, and the Ark speaks of the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as Noah, and his family were saved by entering the Ark we will be saved by accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Savior. Jesus is the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world, and God knew that man would sin, so he had already in eternity past held a meeting with God the son to become a man to save man from his sin. So thank God for Jesus, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, so that who ever would believes on him would not perish, but would have eternal life. Jesus said as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be when the son of man returns. The next time God distroys the earth it will be by fire, but God is not willing that any should perish, but for all to come to repentance.
  • Billyjoeb1 on Genesis 6 - 14 years ago
    I've just wondering why God repented that He had made man on verse 6.I know is a GOD is a GOD not make mistake.I know God is grieve not repent.What can you say about this brother and sister.
  • John on Genesis 6 - 14 years ago
    It says that. "The earth was currupt before God, and earth was filled with violence." in verse 11. God did not create the earth and the SUN was never stated but he did not know it was the sun that created light, even so, the SUN is OLDER than the earth. Earth cannot be created first and people do not live for hundreds of years. It never says any jubillee years , the bible stats years.
