Jesus Christ is standing in the gap for mankind and interceding in their behalf. He died for me and you and is not willing that any perish, but have everlasting life in Him, our high priest who prays continually for our salvation and deliverance.
THE MELCHISEDEC THE BIBLE WAS REFERRING TO IS OU LORD JESUS CHRIST,ALL BECAUSE HE IS THE SON OF THE LORD,THE HIGH PRIEST,ALL BECAUSE IN JOHN 10;30 HE SAID I AND MY FATHER ARE ONE.
My respond to 9/06/2013, 4:56pm - Comment by "Yusef" about Hebrews Chapter 7: Since Melchisedec abideth a priest continually, therefore he was being "interpreted" then as King of righteousness, King of Salem, King of peace; without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God. In fact, even Abraham himself whom he blessed was considering him as a great man and a great priest by giving him the tithes he was collecting from a priest named, Levi. But that "interpretation" to Melchisedec's greatness shouldn't be taken as literal. He wasn't literally immortal like God so to speak. He's just as equal as Abraham and Levi. Meaning, He's just a human beings who also feared God and have done his service to the Lord. Regarding the issue "God is a jealous God" which was written in Exodus 34:14, it simply means that God is jealous when you worship "other god". These other gods are any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: (to which other people bow down and serve) as it is written in Exodus 20:3-5. Jesus Christ is not among other gods. He was the "Word" in the beginning with God, as mentioned in John 1:1-14 and there's no writings there that says they are partners.
If Melchisedec doesn't have a beginning or a end, without mother or father or sibling has he been around since God? And if God is a jealous God that don't like partners, why do people call Jesus God, when Jesus told Mary not to call him God because he answer to His Father who is my Father and your Father, my God and your God? I pray to God... God exist without partners.
I think that during the Old Test days, daily sacrifical offerings were needed for their sins. But in the New Test. Jesus came and completed wiped away sin with his body as a living sacrifice. Which means that ours sins are paid in full for daily and all past present and futures are forgiving to all of the Believers in Christ Jesus.
@ Reggie,
Comments on Hebrews 7:8. You say: “The only way to pay tithes today is to witness that Jesus lives... Our life then becomes a living epistle, in honoring our Great High Priest”.
While I like very much the idea of honoring our God by our lives, as “living epistles”, I don’t agree with your idea of not paying tithe. Here’s why: The “tithes and offerings” principle/law was established by God way before Sinai. Remember Abraham paying tithe to Melchisedec ( Genesis 14)? The tithes were supposed to take care of the “men of God”, the poor and the orphans. The tenth belonged to God before the cross, and is His today. The same Apostle Paul says: “The labourer is worthy of his reward” ( 1Timothy 5:18), and “Even so hath THE LORD ORDAINED that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel” ( 1 Corinthians 9:14). You don’t suppose the Gospel Workers should be paid of government subsidies?! … Your reference to Romans 10:4 doesn’t apply. Here’s what bro. Malachi says: “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee?: In tithes and offerings ( Malachi 3:8).
But the best argument of paying tithes and offerings is made by Jesus in Matthew 25:40, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me”. And you know what will happen to those who don’t… God bless.
Timothy Wayne George on Hebrews 6:20 - 13 years ago
Jesus is an eternal High Priest after the order of Melchizedek who had neither beginning of days or ending of days. Jesus the second member of the Godhead occupies three offices: Prophet, Priest, and King. Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father, performing his High Priest duties, and He will come back as the King of Kings, and Lord or Lords. So He is not the same as Melchizedek, but like him. Study Hebrews 7:1-10 to learn more.
In the garden there are two trees (the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil). The tree of Life means to trust in the Lord, up until this point Adam and Eve Lived by faith. The tree of knowledge is the law of God thereby knowing the law makes you a sinner, because now you know what sin is. When Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge they were now following the Law and became sinners. For we live by Faith and not by Sight. To live by faith is the trust in the Lord, to live by sight is to follow the Law. This is the work that Christ had to do, Hebrews 7:18; For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
Here the writer is making the argument that the law not being perfect had to be replaced with a more perfect law and why Jesus was that replacement. Jesus is the new High Priest after the order of Mel-chis'e-dec. The job of the Priest is to offer up our sacrifice for our sins. The Levitical priesthood had to make sacrifice also for themselves which means that they had sin and therefore not being perfect. Whereas Jesus having not sin offering up himself made it perfect. Levy according to the Law didn't have to pay tithes but receiveth tithes but after the order of Mel-chis'e-dec payed tithes in Abraham. For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the Law. For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of the tribe of Judah: Who is made, not after the Law but after the power of endless life.
The only way to pay tithes today is to witness that Jesus lives. Verse 8 - under the law men who died received tithes, but he who lives forever Jesus receives tithes from them who witness "He lives"! Our life then becomes a living epistle, in honoring our Great High Priest, by believing and confessing Jesus is Lord! Romans 10. Agape. – Reggie.
Melchizedek is God!!! In the book of Hebrews 7:3, Paul says without father, without mother, without descent nor beginning of days nor end of life... Now if this Melchizedek is without beginning of days or end of life, then He still exists today. Only God (ELOHIM) has eternal life. There cannot be two God(s) existing together. Why? The bible says, behold Israel the Lord your God is one. God bless.
This chapter tells that Christ our saviour did a wonderful work for us (mankind) in the salvation and redemption of man from sin; even though He came spotless. Judging from the two chapters of Hebrews chapters 5 and 7, the two priests from Judah are priests that reign forever, (powerful) but there's a big difference between them. I think Melchizedek wouldn’t have saved us (done it perfectly well) even though in Hebrews 7:7, He blesses Abraham but He never had human feelings (wasn’t given birth to). Considering that fact as it was recorded in Genesis that Man kept on sinning against God, continually even after our sacrifice to God, He wouldn’t have had pity on us but Jesus did it. Another lesson from this chapter is that we got to equip ourselves with de word of God, so as not to be a victim in de hands of de devil. I praise you Redeemer.
My dear brothers and sisters, let us have a look from the prompt.. JESUS is of the tribe of Judah in Genesis 49:10, Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:6. He is Melchizedek in Hebrews 7 ( Genesis 14:18). What does it mean? Read Hebrews 7:2, he is a priest without being from the tribe of Levi.. but if you count any priest in the bible, all are by the tribe of Levi.. So what is the link in between Psalms 110:4 and Hebrews 5:10... both didn't come from the tribe of Levi. Therefore what should be the consequence? Read Hebrews 7:11-18.. So we should be aware of this simple oracle.. as in Hebrews 5:12.
Bless God - In verse 2; Do we all do this. The Word said that Abraham gave tithes (the 10th.) of all the spoil that he received as mentioned in verse 1. Many do not beleive in tithing much less to give more than the amount they are blessed with.
2. The Priestly office: vs.12 The priesthood changed, the law also changed because of this new Priest. vs.17 A Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Vs.21 The Lord Jesus sworn (something He will not forget it or changed His mind)that He will be a Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Vs'24&25 Jesus' Priestly office is unchangable, because He lives forever; therefore, Jesus saves to the othermost all those who are willing to have their lives changed to come to God through Jesus. Jesus makes petition; He intercedes; He intervenes. He goes to God for us. He is our sacrificial Lamb. The levitical priest could not do this, because they are just like us (sinners). I thank God for Jesus who washes me every day, every minute, and every hour. I am looking forward to be with Him. God bless. Lorna.
To God love's comment
I hope that u dont still believe in what u have said. your own scripture references totally contradict that worldly belief. Leviticus 24:8 Every Sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by and everlasting covenant. keywords:everlasting covenant. And the reference to Hebrews is the same as it is contradictory to your belief. tithes are still paid like Eldon's commentary says as faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.God is in control of all things as everything runs through his hands before it is allowed and he is testing our faith in a way that is very easy of only requiring 10% of what he already owns. In what u said about people feeling oligated to tithe that is wrong in so many ways. if they feel obligated to do it then they r in the wrong spirit. it is an act of faith that God blesses everytime. and tithing is a form of worship. even if God allowed that family to suffer, in his name, death would be more glorious for them that God found them worthy for such a trial as that. Hebrews 7:7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better. just like the woman who put her last two mites in the offering plate. she was found in higher praise of her giving to God than the rich who gave a percentage of their wealth, which was a lot more money than the widdow had put in, it wasnt about who put in the most but about the giving of what u do have. she gave all that she had and the Lord blessed her for that. and that should not b our initial thought to do it to recieve a blessing because if that is all that we r looking for then God will see that not to be worship.yes we do give offerings and alms as well as tithes in support of the church or fellowship that u belong to. and that reference to looking at the times is not right in context either. we still sacrifice ourselves on that alter every time we can in order to allow for God to change us just like the burnt offerings did and sin offerings. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. now by grace we r saved through Jesus Christ. But we still offer ourselves a sacrifice to either repent (turn away from sin)or we heed what God is trying to change in us as we sacrifice our flesh at the alter. And that reference to the one time perfect sacrifice is true in a sence of he did it once for all sin but that does not mean, as the baptist belief is, that once saved always saved. people backslide and that means turned away from God to follow fleshly desires. we cannot serve God and the devil and if we desire the things of this world more than the things of God then we r serving the devil. So being backslidden means that in order to be found in the Lambs book of life you have to repent, or sacrifice yourself at the alter, of your sins once again. This comment is not meant to be harsh but is meant to steer youin the right direction. We, as christians, have to watch what we say because others do hear and listen and if we steer them wrong then we r doing work for the devil.
Abraham set off to rescue his nephew Lot for he was at war with the Kings of that era. Abraham was a mighty warrior and saved Lot through his might. As he was returning from the slaught he was met on the way by Melchisedek, who was a High Priest with father or mother. Everyone introduced in the bible is introduced as the son of someone. Not Melchisedek for he had no descent. Abraham being the greatest warrior on earth gave a tenth of his spoils to the High Priest according to the titheing laws, even though the Levitical laws were not yet given . Therefore these laws were ordained by God as was the High Priest who met Abraham and blessed him.
THE LORD JESUS' FIERY LOVE FOR AILING HUMANITY MADE HIM WILLING TO DIE FOR THEM. THE SAME GREAT LOVE MADE HIM CONQUER DEATH, HELL AND THE GRAVE SO HE CAN FOREVER LIVE TO MAKE INTERCESSION FOR AND SAVE THOSE WHO COME TO GOD BY HIM. WHEN FACED WITH CRUEL AND SHAMEFUL DEATH HE DID NOT DRAW BACK, HE HAD A MISSION TO ACCOMPLISH AT ANY COST, SO THAT HE WILL FOREVER REMAIN A FAITHFUL HIGH PRIEST FOR THEM WHO WILL COME TO GOD BY HIM. THIS IS OUR CONFIDENCE TODAY, WE ARE FOLLOWING THE ONE WHO KNOWS THE WAY AND IS THE TRUTH AND LIFE. WHAT A SAVIOUR! WHO IS LIKE HIM?
This scripture is so profound( as all of God's word is)one can miss the message. this is telling us that all the earthly priest were " imperfect" and yes, they were mortal, no " oath was sworn " with them
God proclaimed Jesus on the order of Melchisedec because he was the " priest of the most high God" no, he was not greater than Jesus, but "made like unto the Son of God"-vs-3 who is immortal and is the only high priest, who can make intercession for sins because he offered him self up-vs- 28.
Hebrews 7:2 Abraham gave tithe to the High Priest before the law of the Jews, out of faith to God. We give tithe to God after the law because of our faith in the blood of Christ. Priesthood of the believer 1st Peter 2:5-10.
God having provided some better thing for us that they without us should not be made perfect",Heb.11:40;after the"bettersacrifices"of the first resurrection are over.you will see Abraham,Isaac, and Jacob sit down in kingdom of heaven: on earth! Remember John3:6...

Could you please help me understand verses 1-3. Perhaps my comments that I've already submitted will help.
