Mathew 5:16 -- 1 . ITS A NATURE THING: We need to understand that God is Light 1John 1:5 so if we say that we have comunion with Him we also need to be light. it's a natural thing to be the same as, or to have the same character as. 1Peter 1:16 our father is holy so we need to be holy, our father is light so we need to be light. 2 . THE LIGHT IS ALSO FOR THE UNBELIEVERS: "let your light shine before man, so that they may see your good works". This goes on to be self explanatory, people will only want to follow you, or even want to be like you when they see in you the light, that your different than they are and that the difference come precisely from being light, and them from being slaves broken down into darkness. normally when some one is in darkness what they most want and need is light, so we know that the world lives in darkness with out Christ and so the need to be that light that the world needs.

Grace upon grace makes much more sense to me than "grace for grace" or any of the other forms mentioned in the above commentaries, especially when it is taken to mean that God, through Christ, freely gives the new creature in Christ the drive i.e., the will, the strength, or the gift that will provide him with all he needs to become more and more conformed to the image of His Son through good works.
  • Moses Obidike on John 17 - 10 years ago
John 17:4 is analogous to 2 Timothy 4:7 - testimony of a fulfilled calling or mission. John 17:5 confirms the divinity of Jesus, as in John 1:1 - that Jesus is God and has been in existence before the world was created. John 17 also teaches us that if we have received Christ, and we let His Word abide in us, we should be able to handle the trials and tribulations of life, and even overcome the enemy Luke 10:19 because His Word is spirit and His Spirit lives in us. Finally, the knowledge of Him and the presence of His Spirit in our lives guarantee us Eternal Life.
  • John on John 1:18 - 10 years ago
John was talking about God in His essential being. Aquinas logically demonstrated that God in His essential form is immaterial. This is what we know as God the Father. This puts Him beyond the realm of the senses. Christ is God manifested in a material form. If you think John was trying to say Jesus wasn't God, then you've got kind of a big problem since he also wrote I John where he repeats this and again contrasts the immaterial, unreachable Father God with the Son declaring Him to mankind. John is making the case for Christ as God on the basis of His sacrificial love as opposed to false prophets who reject Christ, say they're of God and yet never manifest the love of God. They claim to "see" God and lead others astray.

The Holy Trinity is in the very centre of our Christian faith. In this verse, we learn that there is one God "these three are one" , in three divine persons "the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost" . The Father, who sends His only-begotten Son to the world for our salvation. The Word cf. St. John 1:1 : that is, the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who is truly God and truly man. He took upon himself the human flesh, so that in the flesh He might suffer for us the cruel death on the Cross, by which we are saved. The Holy Ghost, who is the giver of life, and proceeds from the Father and the Son. This is a great mystery of our faith, that we can meditate upon day after day.

Acts 2:38 is the plan of Salvation. As stated by Jesus in John 3:5 also Luke 24:47 and Matt 28:19. Jesus said in "His Name" not in the title, the trinity concept, formula was formed by the nicea council and the catholic church. Only when the Name of Jesus is applied is there remission of sins. The power is in the Blood of Jesus. The trinity doctrine was created as a way to unite all religions, and those who rejected it were put to death. Nobody in the Early Church ever applied the titles at baptism, they applied the Name of Jesus. The Name of the Son is not son. The Name of Jesus is no father. The Name of Jesus is Jesus. The Name of the son is Jesus. At the Name of Jesus shall every knee bow. Not titles. Baptism only saves when the Name of Jesus is applied. Otherwise you only get wet. All through the book of Acts they either Baptized in the Name of the Lord or in the Name of the Lord Jesus or Lord Jesus Christ. John 8:24-27 'He spoke of the father. John 1:1-14 Jesus is God manifested in the flesh. Emmanuel God with us. Deut 6:4 One God. Not A Trinity. Ephes 4:5 One Lord One Faith One Baptism.

Jesus is God himself! Revelation 1 vs 8. john was written what Jesus was speaking through the spirirt, he says I am the Alpha and the Omega, the begining and the end says the lord , the God that was, and is n which is to come the Almighty!!! The word came down with the name jesus, bcos every in this world must a name... Remeber wot was written in phil 2v9, the word came wit a name n dat name was exalted above all. The bible also say at the end i will write a new name on their head they will b my people and i will b their God. U cannot separate a man and the word from is mouth, so u can not separate God 's word from him becos it is the word that makes him God! So jesus is God

In vs. 75 we see David is going through the discipline of the Lord. His response is a correct one that we all need to take heed . He turns his back on the wrong way and aligns his way with God. That 's called repentance. He is incurring affliction which painful, but he calls good. In vs. 76 77 David is making petition to God for mercy. Though our sin is forgiven there are still consequences that linger. David is trusting in the Lord for the strength to bear up under these afflictions. His comfort is in God 's word. We find that same comfort in verses like 1John 1:9. If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Reading John 1:1-5, we will find out that The Word was with God in the beginning. Verse 1 says 'lInux the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and God was the word ' '. So if you agree with the Bible, you will know that The word became flesh Jesus . And the Same John 1 says that by the Word was everything made and without Him there was nothing made that was made. That means God was using the Word Jesus to create everything and that means the consent of the Word Jesus , which is also God according to John 1:1 was needed in the creation process. If so, who was God now speaking to that ' 'Let us make man in our own image and likeness? ' ' If not Jesus. Now that said, if you believe in the Word in John 4:24 ' 'God is a spirit: and they that worship Him must Worship Him in truth and in Spirit ' ', then there is no reason for you now not to know that God is Jesus and God is the Spirit. The reason why He is called the HolySpirit is because there can be evil spirit but His own Spirit is Holy. I pray that God explains it to you Himself the Same way He did to me so that no indoctrination will be a veil on your face. Amen!!!

The reason that Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen the father is: Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person. This text is speaking of The Lord Jesus Christ. He is not the Father. He says in John 10:30 I and my Father are one. But this doesn 't He is the Father. They are one in unity just as the believers are one in Him. We are one with each other but are not the same as each other and are not Him. John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that THEY MAY BE ONE, as WE are. Jesus is the image of God so He said John 12:45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. They couldn 't see the Father without Jesus because he declared Him or made Him known. John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. If there is no Godhead who were they seeing in the Old Testament? Exodus 6:2-3 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty. If they were seeing God Almighty but it wasn 't the Father who was it? Hint. The preincarnate Christ.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the word, and the word was WITH God, and the word "WAS God ". John 1:14 The word was made flesh jesus now and dwelt among us. This says God was made flesh and dwelt among us as Jesus Christ. Lets try basic algebra. N name N father N son N HG If N 1 then N has to equal all of them. Name is singular. The name of the son is Jesus Christ we know for sure so there for the name of all is Jesus Christ English: A Euliptical clause is the scripture of in the name of the father, the son, and the holy ghost. Peter said My Lord and my God. Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen the father.

Edwina Hawley, I by all Scripture disagree that Moses and his holy entourage actually saw God. Moses saw glimpses of God and his entourage saw even less over the years in the wilderness. This chapter talks about seeing clouds and a sapphire pavement for God 's feet but like Matthew Henry said in his commentary they did not see enough of God to create a sort of imagine. John 1:8 says, "No man hath seen God at anytime the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the father, he hath declared him ". 1 Cor. 13:12 says, "For now we see through a glass, darkly but then face to face: now I know in part but then shall I know even as also I am known ". To see God in his glory for a man would be like taking a trip to the Sun when he get near he would simply be destroyed. Imagine how bright our Holy God is. God bless us all and in the understanding of his Word. Glory be to Jehovah in the highest through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!

Snow, the law is very hard for us who are sinners but it is perfect because it is the essence of almighty God, Gat. 3:24 says, "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Rom. 3:20 says, "therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin ". John 1:17 says, "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ ". Thank God for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. God bless us all and in the understanding of his Word. Glory be to Jehovah in the highest through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!

Bryan, your comment on 2 2, the answer is context. In John 1:1 an "a " is completely out of context and would create multiple god 's. The first and greatest commandment is this "the Lord our God is one, and you shall worship Him with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your soul, and with all your strength. " He is ONE not many.

For this is the love of God: This is the kind of love that God desire of us our entire day-by-day life must be molded by the commandments of God 2 John 1:6. That we keep his commandments: The commandments of God as delineated in Exodus 20:3-17 must be the defining standard of our lives and we must adhere totally to it, for it is the only litmus test of determining whether we are Christians or not. According to James 2:10, if we are err in any of it, then we are guilty of all. A lawyer of the Pharisees extraction once ask Christ a tempting question Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus answered him by summarizing the content of the two tables of stones that Moses collected from God thus: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. He when further to add that And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Matthew 22:35-39. The phrase, the second is like unto it signifies that Exodus 20:3-11 which spells our relationship with God cannot be complete without Exodus 20:12-17 which spells our relationship with our neighbour. We cannot claim to love God if we don t love our brother whom we are seeing 1 John 4:20-21.
  • Dewey J on Exodus 13 - 11 years ago
Randy, we must come to grip with and understand the firstborn from both the old and new testaments. John 1:1 says, " in the beginning was the Word-Jesus- and the Word-Jesus- was with God and the Word-Jesus-was God ". Col. 1:15-Jesus- " Who is the imagine of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. Col. 1:18 says, "And he-Jesus-is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead that in all things he might have the preeminence ". Emphasize the firstborn from the dead this gives all Christians great faith that we all also shall rise from the dead by the power of Jehovah through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The Old testament firstborn lead us to the New testament resurrection of Jesus Christ as the firstborn or the first to rise from the dead never to die again. God bless us all and in the Understanding of his Word. Glory be to Jehovah in the highest through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!
