Dear Gary; Previous responses have explained John 21 so well. I also am praying for more of our Lord's light in your experience. I am convinced that an active believing, receiving, and applying of God's grace is sometimes the key to more fully experience His goodness. When one finds a Bible promise or statement intended for believers in Jesus, lets place ourselves into it, saying "I receive that for mine", reread it, placing ourself into it, thank the Master for fulfilling his promise in us personally. As for blaming ourselves; lets also receive his cleansing that has already been paid for and is available now. 1 John 1:9, Romans 8:1-2, Ephesians 6:10-18, and many more. Jesus is the light of the world and abundance of life is available in Him for receiving and applying. May our Lord's grace and peace be unto you.

Prior to this i would like to share something about our topic, ( Romans 5:12)for by one man sin entered the world and death by sin so death passed upon all men for in that all have sinned.....We know that the bible clearly state that both of them disobeyed God's command, as stated in this verse FOR BY ONE MAN SIN ENTERED THE WORLD,One man means not particular to one man only but two person,( Genesis 2:24)meaning they shall be in one flesh. In ( Genesis 2:16-17) Thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. When Eve begin to have fellowship with the devil, She begin to have a desire about the fruit in the midst of the garden, the devil expalin to her that you will not die if you eat the fruit but rather will be like God, Adam saw Eve that when She ate the fruit she did not die, but God said you will die, so when Eve gave him the fruit after he ate this, their eyes where opened and saw that they were both naked and covered with them leafs, and so the bible said In the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die, they died on that day because for the Lord one thousand day for the Lord is only ONE DAY that is why they died on that day, but because of God's love to them before sending out from the garden God clothed them with skin of animals (Lamb)for the remission of their sin because God commanded them only ONE COMMAND! ( Hebrews 9:22) without shedding of Blood there is no remission of sin. because there was a sacrifice blood for them a blemish, without spot of a lamb. ( John 1:29) Lamb of God who taketh away the sins of the world.

This is very important matter to all of us,the sin which committed by Adam & Eve was forgiven but there was something happend there was a consequence a far reaching consequence of their sin, we inherit the original sin which is death from hell, the only way to escape this is to have reconcilliation with Christ thru baptism in water in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of our sins, this is the only key for us to enter God's Kingdom without repentance and without baptism we will all likewise perish. ( John 3:3-7)
Without being born again of water and of spirit we cannot enter into the Kingdom of God, for there is two salvation God wants to happen to all, being baptized of water & spirit and after this process we must continue to be with Lord in his second coming ( Titus 2:13) This the TRUTH the truth that will save us from damnation, because Jesus said I am the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE no man cometh unt the Father except thru me.

    Godbless you heart...

To Jews Messiah was an expected leader who was to lead the Children of Israel away from
their lives of toil and misery and into the promised land. However to John, The Avatar is the Absolute Creator taking a human body at the time of humanity's lowest state to guide it away from the trap of sin and corruption into which it had fallen.
The synoptic authors are as faithful as they can be to the events they are trying to record. John attempts to communicate the meaning and purpose of the Incarnation. To him Spirit is a concrete reality, where to most it is merely vanity and a chasing after wind

Thank for your comment Will, however my concern was not so much about prejudice or hate, as evidence. After all, who was this fourth gospel writer and why did he dislike Jews so much? Did it elude him completely that Jesus himself was a Jew and if so what does that tell us about the reliability of this particular account? With regard to it being the word of God, passed down via fallible men or otherwise, I would have thought that he at least would be sufficiently well resourced to ensure that this kind of elementary blunder didn't happen in his name! Be that as it may, one thing I do disagree with you about is the role of mistranslation in scripture. What makes the NT (the OT also to a lesser extent) so dubious is the deliberate manipulation of texts via selectivity, interpolation and ordering, rather than random honest mistakes of which I'm sure there are many.
  • Will on John 1 - 15 years ago
David, regarding the anti-semitism, I think that these scriptures were written by men, and so there may be hatred/prejudice within them. It is the 'word of God', passed down by men. We all have our imperfections/shortcomings, no? I speak a few languages and I believe that, among men, something is always lost in translation. See the story of Babel.

Quote "So Jesus is the Son, not God himself. Jesus said “The Son is not greater than the Father” which doesn’t support the Trinitarian belief that they are the same and equal. In verse 14, John calls Jesus the only begotten. Begotten is a term used in the Bible when referring to offspring, something or someone created. God has no beginning or a creator so Jesus having been created cannot be God. He is the only begotten because he was Gods first direct creation and all other things God made through Jesus."

A very good point actually. I believe the exact quote from the KJV to be :-

    John 14
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come [again] unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

Certainly this is one of the defences that Arius used to defend himself against his Trinitarian persecutors in the 4th Century.

One thing that puzzles me about John though, is it's anti-Semitic tone in chapters 18 and 19. Why are there so many hostile and frankly impertinent references to 'the Jews'? I count 16 altogether!

In what sense is Jesus a “Mighty God”?
Isaiah also foretold that Jesus would be a “Mighty God.” Before coming to earth he was “a god” in the sense that he was “the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” ( John 1:1; Colossians 1:15) After dying as a human and being raised as an immortal spirit, he is a god in the sense that he partakes bodily of “the divine quality.”— Colossians 2:9; 1 Timothy 6:15, 16.
However, there is an authority associated with the title “Mighty God.” In the Bible certain men were called gods. Why? Because they served as judges in the nation of Israel. ( Psalm 82:1-6) Jesus, the “Mighty God,” is Jehovah’s great appointed Judge. He himself explained what this meant: “The Father judges no one at all, but he has committed all the judging to the Son, in order that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father.”— John 5:22, 23.
Among the judgment acts entrusted to Jesus is the judging of his own congregation—both those who had died prior to his return in Kingdom power and those still alive—at the period of his presence during “the conclusion of the system of things.” ( Matthew 24:3) He also does the judging of the nations today, separating “the sheep” from “the goats.” In addition, he will preside over the thousand-year judgment day of all mankind after Armageddon. A “Mighty God” indeed!— Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 11:18; 1 Peter 4:17; Revelation 20:4, 5, 13.

How could the Holy Spirit make Mary pregnant? Luke 1:35 has some more explanation. Further, I suppose the process was a spiritual principle that God uses repeatedly. The creation of our world was an idea of God, which He spoke into being. For God's purpose to be fulfilled in humankind, I notice, there is usually a human statement of agreement required; i.e. with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. In the conception of Mary specifically, the angel Gabriel spoke this act of God and Mary confirmed it for completion (see Luke 1:31 & 38). If God could breathe the life of humanity into a full grown man (Adam), surely he could fertilize an egg without a human father. 1 Cor. 15:45 says the first Adam was made a living soul (being), the last Adam was made a quickening (life giving) spirit. The life element in this transaction was the WORD aspect of God becomming human flesh ( John 1:14).

The true meaning of this scripture is getting "lost in translation" as many have brought out. John clears up this debate when he summarizes the main idea of his book in John 20:31 which says “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”

So Jesus is the Son, not God himself. He is the only begotten because he was Gods first direct creation and all other things God made through Jesus.

Dear Dan, The ones that Christ referred to pertaining to the dead 'HEARING' His voice, were those that had died IN FAITH in God's Word, thus promises, pertaining to that which was to come, prior to Christ coming into the world in the form of a man; in the likeness of sinful flesh, to die for the sins of mankind. All those that had died prior to His coming, who HEARD God's Word; words, in the way that means to BELIEVE God's Word; to thus have faith in God's Word, are all those who's souls went down into the midst of the earth, not into Hell, but nevertheless in a particular grave site, where death held them hostage, as they waited for the prophesied; foretold, coming Messiah; Saviour. As, the Lord had promised them, saying:

Isaiah 26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with MY DEAD BODY shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

1 Corinthians 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste DEATH FOR EVERY MAN.

Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

2 Corinthians 1:9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

Acs 2:24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

Romans 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

After Christ came OUT of that fleshly body; the form of a man; the likeness of sinful flesh, He THEN went to the part of the midst of the earth that is Hell, and TOOK AWAY from Satan the KEYS of Hell and Death!

Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

THEN He want to another part of the midst of the earth where all those souls that had BELIEVED God; believed the Word of God preached to them, and had thus died in faith, looking forward to the coming Saviour; Redeemer; Messiah, slept; rested, waiting for Him to come. And He took them, who were all held CAPTIVE by death, in the grave, all CAPTIVE UNTO HIMSELF, and AROSE, with them, they with HIM, from the dead:

As prophesied in the Old Testament:

Ezekiel 37:13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,

He FULFILLED that prophesy in the New Testament, upon rising from the dead:

Matthew 27:50 Jesus when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

    51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

52 And THE GRAVES WERE OPENED; and many bodies of the saints which slept AROSE,

53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

Ephesians 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led CAPTIVITY captive, and gave gifts unto men.

Since our Saviour; Redeemer; Messiah, is come in the flesh:

John 1: 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath EVERLASTING LIFE, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

The teaching is biblical but incomplete. Yes, Jesus claimed that his Father is greater that him before he died. Because, what he speak is came from his Father Jh. 14:10. But after he is risen there powers is equal. Supporting verses: Jh. 17:10-11 and Philip. 2 : 9 -11. Do you that the new name of our Heavenly Father is the Lord Jesus Christ based in the bible.

    V. 22b.Eat of the tree of life and live forever. After humanity chose the deceiver and was separated from God (died), they were also banned from eating the fruit of the other trees in the garden, especially the tree of life. God did not want his love project to live forever in this fallen miserable state of being. However; there is access to the tree of life and eternal existance after restoration to God. 1 John 1:1 describes Jesus as the Word of life (Maybe presentation or offer of life). Rev.22:14 says,"Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may go through the gates into the city. Only by relying on Jesus can we have this washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit( Titus 3:5). Lets press for that eternal life that God had planned for humanity, even before the fall.

    @Daniel Brown

No, I'm not Mormon. I've never read the book of Jasher. My beliefs are not Mormon. The only church I've ever been associated with is the Seventh Day Adventist church, of which I am no longer in association with.

This will be the final time I post here, and I truly mean this. The only reason I came back is because GOD gave me one last argument to present before I left this page for good. I felt obligated to present it to you because I care about Him, His word, and whether or not it is being represented correctly.

"The Sons of GOD" are not angels. Firstly, without your book of Enoch, there isn't any proof of this. One cross reference to Enoch in the book of Jude isn't enough to prove that the book of Enoch isn't a false book.

Secondly, I would like to direct you to John 1:12, which reads: "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" KJV

Right there, in that verse, the sons of God are those who believe in Him. Just as I said from the beginning. Seth's bloodline were those who believed in GOD and stayed true to His word.

Still not convinced? After all, you might argue that humans become angels and therefore "sons of God" could still be referring to angels. This is a very common belief amongst Christians. I would like to tell you that this is also incorrect.

Take a look at Hebrews 1:13&14 KJV - "But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right
hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?"

In this text, Angels are described as spirits that were sent to minister for the heirs of salvation. The heirs of salvation are those who believe in Jesus Christ and are saved by Him. So if Angels are spirits that minister to the saved, then the saved can't be the same as Angels! Therefore, the humans becoming angels argument gets thrown out the window.

The Sons of GOD are those who believe in the LORD. Pure and simple. I'll take what the Bible says over ridiculous conspiracy theory that has absolutely no backing whatsoever other than a book of questionable authority and a few Bible verses taken out of context any day of the week.

I disagree your comment that my writing is in a logic way, because it is clearly stated and supported with verses of the bible. They are the writings of the prophets and apostles of what is the characteristics of God or what he is to be watch of to believe. In John 1:1- the word was with God. Yes, do not limit the power of our God. Did you know through his word the universe was created. So, the word was with God. John 1:14- the word was made flesh. In your owned understanding the son delivered by Mary's is God?. In Mat 1:21- Mary's bring forth a son name Jesus and not the named Jesus Christ. The word Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God - 1 Cor. 1:24. No human being bring forth the power / wisdom. Acts 2:36- God made Jesus both Lord and Christ. If your understanding in Mat. 1:21- Mary's is the mother of God, all the characteristics numbers 1 to 8 contradict to your conclusion. Luk. 3:22- is same to Mat. 3:16-17-These verses are literally spoken. These verses was not talking of what is God is?. Easy to understood that all person baptized by John the Baptist only Jesus has the Holy Spirit descended from heaven like a dove upon him. Gen. 1:26- God is alone because in the old testament, many verses we can read God is one. One verses to sight in Zechariah 14:9. In the new testament/Good news God is only one in John 10:30.

In the book of Genesis wherein God from the beginning created the heaven & the earth, and He even created every thing, God created the fowls of the earth according to its kind, God created the birds according to its kind, God created the trees according to its kind, God created the fish according to its kind and the last God created man according to His image.

This are part of God's creation and He even planned of salvation before the creation begun ( 1 Peter 1:19-20) who verily foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times. Because God knows that the man that He created will be disobedient to Him that is why Before creating them, it was already there before foundation of the world, Salvation is already there for the future. Because when Adam & Eve disobeyed the command of God that if you ate the fruit specifically God mentioned that you will surely die! And this is the CURSE the curse of DEATH, A FAR REACHING CONSEQUENCE THAT CAME TO US because of their disobedience to God. ( Romans 5:12) says because of ONE MAN sin enetered into the world, and by SIN, DEATH passeth to ALL, for ALL HAVE SINNED. And God shows us how he's gonna save mankind thru CLOTHING OF SKIN OF ANIMALS TO ADAM & EVE representing forgiveness of their SIN, This SKIN of the LAMB supposed to be key for their forgiveness for disobedience, this are the type & shadow of what GOD WILL DO TO SAVE MANKIND FROM THEIR SINS, BY OFFERING HIS HUMAN BODY IN THE PERSON OF CHRIST, ( 1 Timothy 3:16) God was manifest in the FLESH,( John 1:1-14) In the beginning was a WORD and the WORD was with GOD and the WORD was GOD and in V-14 and the WORD became FLESH. And it was prophesied by God himself ( Isaiah 7:14) A virgin shall conceived and bear a Son and His name shall be called Emannuelle which means God with us. So if there is a prophecy there must be a fulfillment and in ( Matthew 1:21-23)And she (MARY) shall bring forth a SON named Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins, because we are all BORN SINNERS ( Psalms 51:5) That is why God make a way to REACH US, TO SAVE US FROM OUR SINS, because if the plan of salvation does not HAPPENED TO US, does not apply to us we will be perished to eternal damnation from HELL, the CURSE which Adam & Eve we INHERIT IT! So the KEYS for this is to OBEY GOD'S WORD thru the BIBLE, because the Bible is our guide, our salvation because it is the Word of God (2 Timonthy 3:16) That is why if we donot believe in the Bible theres nothing to explain and our sharing will be useless. Its not the version of the Bible but whatever VERSION IT IS, the PLAN OF SALVATION IS STILL THERE, AND WE CANNOT IGNORE THIS...WE CANNOT USE OUR INTELLECTS, WE MUST DEFEND OF GOD AND TO HIS WORD...Godbless your heart If you understand what I am sharing off.

John's is a wonderful gospel. The message is light and life and redemption and divine grace. You have everything in the Apostles creed in this gospel. Everything you need to be Christian. If you refuse to believe as some indicated THEN so it is. Christianity is, after all, a matter of faith. Jesus said **that** so often: your faith saves you. All of the gospels are moving, but this one has always been my favorite.

    FYI!!!

HOLY TRINITY - A Catholic BELIEF/DOCTRINE which means 3 GOD's (FATHER,SON,HOLY SPIRIT) having exactly the same/equal nature or being or power... Jesus claim that he's Father is greater than Him... so how come this teachings are biblical... The bible teaches that there is a God above all (Father)and His Son Christ Jesus (Wisdom/Word) and the Holy Ghost (the Comforter- Jn 14:26)...They are all GOD's but they are not equal to each other... ALWAYS remember let us be Biblical with regard to our faith....(www.mcgi.org)
