(Verses 8-9) "Oh,do not hold us guilty for our former sins! Let your tenderhearted mercies quickly meet our needs, for we are brought low to the dust. Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the honor of your name. Oh, save us and forgive our sins for the sake of your name"
Didn't Jesus say this in Luke 24:44-48: "When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me by ... the Psalms must all come true. ... Yes, it was written long ago that the Christ must suffer and die and rise again from the dead on the third day. With my authority, take this message of repentance to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: 'There is forgiveness of sins for all who turn to me."
The "me" here has to be the God referred to in Psalm 79 for there can be only one Savior.
Too. it is written that Jesus (Christ) would be in the grave three days and three nights in the book of Jonah. Jonah 1-17 says, "Now the Lord had arranged a great fish to swollow Jonah. And Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights." Jonah was a type for Christ. His story shows us how Jesus would give his life for our sins, just as Jonah gave his life for his sin (Jonah said that he called to God from the world of the dead.). This is what Jesus was talking about.
The bottom line is, Jesus and the God the Psalms talk about are the same!
(Verse 48) "And (you Lord) rescues me from my enemies. You hold me safe from violent opponents."
The enemy of man is sin. It has always been our enemy. This means that David is talking about God as Jesus, who saves us from sin by his death on the cross. Let's say it this way. David was a prophet looking into the future and seeing Jesus as our Savior. He saw Jesus as Paul saw him in Titus 2:13, "Our great God and Savior." And he pictured what Jesus would say in John 6:39, "But the Scriptures point to me."
Jesus further said to two of his followers in Luke 24:25-26, "You are such foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures. Wasn't it clearly predicted by the prophets that the Christ would have to suffer all these things before entering his time of glory?" Verse 27 reads: "Then Jesus quoted passages from the writings in Moses and all the prophets, explaining what all the Scriptures said about himself."
vv34. Which simon is this ? Coz in v12 simon peter didn't see him in the sepuchre and neither of the two going to emmaus was simon coz on return to jerusalem they found all 11( the 12 minus judas) seated together
vv15. The "risen" jesus is obviously properly dressed. Where could he have got the clothes to wear ? NB: v12 says the linen in which he'd been bound for burial is found lying there by simon peter.
In response .. the Scripture Matthew 28:19
is cross-referenced many times and broken down for any individual/s to read: the Name of the FATHER: JESUS CHRIST, Son: JESUS CHRIST, HOLY GHOST: JESUS CHRIST .. the directions are CLEAR and CONCISE ... HE did NOT say to "polly-parrot" what I have said BUT rather to go and do as I have COMMANDED ... ACTS 4:12... and MANY other Scripture/s are there for US to meditate upon with Prayer & Fasting to be given complete Reve{a}Lation ... LUKE 24:45 ...thank YOU/LORD JESUS for the KNOWLEDGE that YOU'VE given US.
GOD is a SPIRIT {in fullness of HIS glorification; and WE that worship HIM {{{NOT}} them MUST worship HIM in Spirit and TRUTH.
What the verse is letting us know is that jesus the son of /God himself is not dead he is alive . Just like he was three days earlier when they thaught they have killed him for good on that old rugged cross. The romans did not realize he just went to sleep for three days then got up to be with his father or should I say himself. The bible tells he told the deciples when you see me you see my father, so we know that God can not be dead because he is a spirit and IF will say this and proud to say it he dwells in me. Thank lord for alowing me to be your friend.
We will be changed from sinful to sinless human beings. This will make us immortal because sin results to death. The Bible says, "For the wages of sin is death...". In other words if there is no sin there is no death. We are still flesh and blood as Jesus is after His resurrection where He ate broiled fish ( Luke 24:42)
just as adam and eve did not comprehend their own nakedness until theirs eyes were opened(by the Lord)that they would "understand"the results of sin.could it be that the men on the road to Emmaus could not have their eyes opened to know
I would like to comment on Luke (24:36-43)
In these verses Jesus Christ (PBUH) clearly explains to his disciples that he did not die and neither he resurrect. I saw some people comments that Jesus (PBUH) showed his hands and feet to show the nail marks to the people. It is not mention anywhere in the bible that Jesus (PBUH) showed the nail signs to his disciples. He is trying to show that still his body was a natural body. Not a spiritual as they think.
Jesus Christ (PBUH) Comments on resurrected bodies in Luke (20:27-36)
Luke (20:36) neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels.
According to this verse Jesus Christ (PBUH) said that the resurrected bodies will be spiritual (angel).
If Jesus (PBUH) really resurrected from the dead, his body also has to be a spirit. But he showed his hands and feet to his disciples and confirmed that he is not a spirit. He is filled with flesh and bones. If his body is not a spiritual body that means he was not resurrected from the dead. For a person to resurrect, he should die. Jesus (PBUH) clearly explain to the people that he did not die on the cross.
Isaiah 9:6 tells us who Jesus really is. He is the Son, Father and God. Jesus is the name you should be baptized in.( Acts 2:38,19:5,10:48,8:37-38)( 2 Cor 3:1) Out of the mouths of two or three shall the word of God be established. Many times did the scriptures say Jesus name baptism but only once did it sayin the name of Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost( Matthew 28:19) If you put them all together you get the name and that is Jesus. ( Luke 24:47) tells where and what name should remissions of sins and repentence should be preached. Matt, Mark, Luke and John are the books that tell of Jesus's birth, life ,death and resurrection and the resurrection begins in the book of acts and is the beginning of the Church. Jesus gave Peter the authority to speak on the day of pentecost in St John(21:15-17)( Acts 1:2) as well as the first chapter of Acts, whom Jesus chose the apostles.
People try to say well who told the apostles to go and baptize in Matthew 28:19? Jesus of course, I agree but who stopped Saul/Paul on the way to Damascus? The same Jesus? YES! Paul baptized in what way and name? Jesus.( Acts 19:5) No other name( Acts 4:12) as well as One Lord, One Faith and one Baptism ( eph 4:5) People will jump over the book of Acts because of what ever reason. Acts opens up the name. If you don't believe me see what is done in Jesus name in the book of Acts. Do a study but before you do it pray to Jesus and ask for wisdom.
Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Christ is establishing the difference between Him and the Spirit which is to come after him. When He ascends into heaven, He will send a comforter, counsellor who will not be made of flesh and will be like that of the wind. The third person of the trinity. In verse 49, they are to wait in the city until he comes.
This is the first time I have read the gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. I found them so enlightening and very moving. I know all that was said in the gospels was meant to be, but still think to myself of how the Jews condemned a totally innocent man to death on the cross and let a murderer go Free!! I know the Pharisees were jealous of Christ’s power over the people, but the Jews saw all of the miracles that Christ performed, and they still did not believe. When Christ said to the Jews, "Do not cry for me but cry for your children’s children", these words came true! Even when the leader of the Jewish faith said before he died that Christ had told him he was the messiah 2000 years ago, they still could not believe. Be it on their own heads. Where will they turn when Christ’s second coming arrives in all his glory! God have mercy on us all!!
@Walt,
You say: “…gentiles were excluded from Moses covenant until the cross … The four gospels should be part of the Old Testament.” Let’s “zoom out” of Ephesians 2, and take a look at the whole Bible from “an eagle’s eye view”. The plan of salvation did not begin with the Jews; it was conceived before the foundation of the world 1 Peter 1:19. First, it was revealed to Adam and Eve after the fall Genesis 3:15. Then Enoch, Noah and Job preached it. Melchizedek, serving as the priest of the Most High preached it. And finally it was promised to Abraham, in whose seed all the nations would be blessed. The plan of salvation has different stages: It began in the Garden of Eden, continued until the Flood, then after the Flood with Noah and his family until Abraham. The Jewish Nation followed. God’s prophets continued to preach until Christ came, and He continued to preach “the Kingdom of God” until His ascension. After that, the Apostles followed including Paul. The plan of salvation included the whole world from the beginning. Though the shortest, the “Jewish period” period was the most important. But The Gospel of the Kingdom of God was the same from the beginning to “the end”, having at the center Jesus Christ, The Savior of the world. This is what Jesus was trying to explain to His people, when they wanted to kill Him: “Search the scriptures (the Old Testament); for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me” John 5:39. On the road to Emmaus, “beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself” Luke 24: 27. Conclusion: You can’t separate The Old from The New Testament. It is just one message, one plan of salvation, one Christ.
@Chuck,
1. The term holy ghost and holy spirit are interchangeable in the scriptures ( Luke 3:22; Luke 4:1);
2. This is one reason why people who have had bodily limbs removed still feel as if their limbs are still with them after removal of a limb;
3. The holy ghost goes to heaven after a person is deceased for a born again believer, and the unholy ghost for an unbeliever goes to hell ( Luke 16:22, 23).
@Morris,
1. The 2 men in white linen are angels ( John 20:12), the scriptures do not give any indication of where the angels went;
2. The 2 men on the way to Emmaus are sad because they believe the body of Jesus was missing, that was under the impression that Jesus was going to rid Israel of the Roman Empire ( Luke 24:21), they did not understand what was really happening ( Luke 24:25,26), their spiritual eyes have not yet been opened until verse 31;
3. It was most likely on the third day Jesus ascended into heaven to place his sinless perfect pure blood on the mercy seat for the atonement for the sins for all, especially to them that believe ( I Timothy 4:10);
4. Mary Magdalene was the first person to see and talk to Jesus after he arose from the tomb ( John 20:14-17).
@Joy,
1. If you are an Old Testament Jew maybe repentance and forgiveness starts at Jerusalem in the name of Jesus.
2. But for a New Testament born again believer repentance and forgiveness begins from a person’s heart ( Romans 10:10) and we confess our sins to Jehovah God in the name of our saviour Jesus Christ ( I John 1:9).
3. We would like people to actually quote the bible (King James Version 1611) to prove their beliefs!
@Roger,
1. The invisible God was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory ( John 1:14);
2. Born again Christians in the church age will spend eternity in the New Jerusalem after the millennial reign of Christ and white throne judgment ( Revelation 21:2, 3, 10);
3. Salvation comes by believing on the lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior ( Romans 10:9-13);
4. There are many cults that believe in God, Jehovah as their saviour, but the bible does not support believing in God, as source of salvation. We as believers must always remember to make this distinction that Jesus that died on the cross of Calvary for our sins. It becomes confusing to the unbelievers and those that are ignorant of the scriptures;
5. It is now in these days of the spirit of the anti-Christ that we must make distinctions and give heed to matters that pertain to the absolute truth of God's holy word.
To me it is the way we as Christians who have accepted Christ in our life and believe in God, that Christ died for all mankind sins and rose again. If you believe in the one and only one true God, the invisible God. This is the way we will live in heaven with Jesus as our life. That’s why he died for our sins. After God made man he told the first creation that what he made was good. It was the only way we could go to heaven and live with him. We are to follow the scripture that Almighty God gave to Paul to tell the whole world and the gentiles how we are to be. If you don’t believe in God, you cannot be with him in glory. Amen. God bless all that read and study the Holy Bible. In his son’s name.
sin of the wicked;punishable by the second death to hell according the Book of Revelation 21:8,therefore the key of salvation is the Acts 2:38,Gal.3:27, Luke 24:47-48, Acts 4:11-12,no other Name from heaven....mostly the people today no time for God because of wealth and big business..
In ref to Joy's comment. The bible states that whatsoever you do in word and deed do it all the name of Jesus. No there is no hidden meaning here he was telling his diciples to go to Jerusalem until the Holy Ghost was poured out on the day of Pentecost Ac2. 1st there was 500 that waited, then it dwindled down to 120 and then The Holy Ghost was poured out for the 1st time. Jesus is indeed God himself. Did not he say that he was the 1st and the last the begining and the ending. He said he was the almighty in rev and in Ish 9:6 he again is declared the almighty. So lets go with what the bible says it makes things easier.
Jesus means that the repentance and forgiveness should start from Jerusalem in the name of Almighty God the Creator and not in the name of Jesus. If it were to in the name of Jesus, it would have been said "And that repentance and remission of sinnes should be preached in MY NAME, among all nations, beginning at Hierusalem. So all christian should take note:
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other NAME under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
There's only ONE saving NAME !! And that is Jesus!
Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
Ephesians 4:5 ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM !
VERSE 6 - ONE GOD AND FATHER OF ALL,
John 1:1-14 ~~ 1 Timothy 3:16
God was manifest in the flesh !!
Their is only ONE saving name and when Jesus told the disciples to teach ALL nations baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: -20- Teaching them to observe ALL things whatsoever I have commanded you.
In Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
And now into verse 38-39
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Verse 18: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Jesus says, "ALL POWER is given unto ME in heaven and in earth. In verse 19 He says "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the NAME" . *Not names* ..
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a CHILD is born, unto us a SON is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The MIGHTY GOD, The EVERLASTING FATHER, The Prince of Peace.
Jesus says in Revelation 1:8
8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the ALMIGHTY.
Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the FIRST, and I am the LAST; AND BESIDE ME THERE IS NO GOD.
Jesus says in Revelation 1:11
1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the FIRST and the LAST:
1 Timothy 3:16
3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
Jesus says in Luke 24:47 And that REPENTANCE and REMISSION OF SINS should be preached in HIS NAME AMONG ALL NATIONS, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
49 And, behold, I SEND THE PROMISE OF MY FATHER UPON YOU: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
As we go into the book of Acts we find almost immediately the promise being fulfilled. And let me clear this scripture up.
Ephesians 4:5 ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism,
6 ONE God and Father of ALL,
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:14 And the Word was made FLESH, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is PREFERRED BEFORE ME: for HE WAS BEFORE ME.
Now back to Acts 1:5
Jesus says in Vs. 5 : For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost NOT MANY DAYS HENCE.
Acts 2:1 1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Read the rest of chapter 2 and how men mocked and said " these men are full of new whine" but Peter stood up with the eleven.
Acts 2:13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
After you read through to vs 37 says the men were pricked in there hearts and asked what shall they do?!
Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Peter tells them what Jesus told him to preach unto ALL nations.
Luke 24:47 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in HIS NAME among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
In Luke 24:45-49 Jesus reminded his disciples of what is written of him concerning his suffering, death and ressurection; that repentance and remission of sins would be preached in his name beginning from Jerusalem. They were to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Ghost to come upon them in order to witness the word ( Acts 1:7-8). Before his crucifiction Jesus had told his disciples that it was not them that would speak but the Holy Ghost ( Mark 13:11). They were to preach the the Gospel with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven ( 1 Peter 1:12). On the day of pentecost they heard the infallible Holy Ghost speak through the mouth of Peter ( Acts 2:33). In Acts 10:44 it says to him give all prophets witness that through his name whosover believers shall receive remission of sins. On this day of pentecost, after death burial, ressurection and ascension of Jesus, the Holy Ghost witnessed, beginning from Jerusalem, commanding the people to repent and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins and they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit ( Acts 2:38). God is His own interprater, interpreting the Name of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost; for he says in Zechariah 14:9 : And the Lord shall be King over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord and his name one. Thomas called him My Lord and my God ( John 20:28). On this day of Pentecost the Holy Ghost bore witness of His Holy child whom He annointed( Mathew 1:18, Acts 4: 27). Who can add or subtract from what God had began? What He began in the day of pentectost and Jerusalem restores in the Last days: Baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ for remission of Sin. The Holy Ghost Church will stay with the command of the Holy Ghost for they know the Apostles were sent the Holy Ghost (13:4) and spake these words at His command.
v.4,13,24: Who were the 2 men in shiny garments?Where did they go? v.17 Is this an act we currently perform? 4 days after crucifixion Lord Jesus returned to Heaven? Signifigance? v.18: w Was Cleopas the first to speak with Jesus after he rose?
Didn't Jesus say this in Luke 24:44-48: "When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me by ... the Psalms must all come true. ...
