Very well said! Matthew 16:18 is one of the great verses in the bible, and probably one of the most debated verse in the bible, so we'll just skip it. No, just kidding! I would like to give a little extra thought on what you mentioned. Jesus says thou art PETROS (referring to Peter), and upon this PETRA (referring to Himself), I will build my church. You have properly stated the meaning of PETROS and PETRA, one being a small stone (Peter), and the other being a massive stone or foundational slab (Christ).
But here's something I find fascinating in this section of scripture. Where Jesus says thou art Peter, the word "this" in "upon this rock," that's what is called in Greek the Near Demonstrative. What that means is that Jesus was pointing to Himself when He said upon this rock.
But something else I find interesting is that when Jesus said I will build my church, I see two things in the phrase "I will build my church." First of all, He says "I will build." And secondly, He says "My church." Did you catch that? It is the Lord's church. He is still the head of the church.
But I also kind of regress for a moment, because notice that He says "I" will build my church. Some people think that this is our job to build the church. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is not our job!
It says at the end of Chapter 2 in the book of Acts that the disciples (The new believers), they would get together and study the doctrine of the apostles, and pray and break bread together, and the (Lord added) to the church daily such as should be saved. It is His church. It is His work. He does it. We are the only the instruments.
Again, amen to what you shared. I completely agree and just wanted to add some of my own thoughts on the subject.
Thanks for your reply. What a wonderful sunny day here!
I'm going to continue to love you with this scripture! We may not agree on our interpretation of scripture, but it's ok, many of us here on this site continue to have our differences of opinion. Only God can be our judge! I have to respect you for the Fire you have in stating and sharing your interpretation of scripture.
Since you commented on Peter I will share this scripture with you for your consideration.
Regarding the Apostle Peter, Jesus held him in high esteem so much so that he used Peter to build his church!
Matthew 16:18-20
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Peter is God's Man! We need to listen when Peter talks:
Acts 2:38
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Peter tells us what we must do - to receive the Holy Ghost/Spirit. Very Powerful! Do you believe that the Apostle Peter is God's Man?
Alex, feel free to comment on this scripture, or list any other scripture that you want to discuss, or some other scripture that validates your beliefs.
God Bless.
Acts 2:38-40 KJV
[38] Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. [39] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. [40] And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
Please notice that there is no where found and written in the Book of Acts about what Jesus was saying to the eleven apostles whom He commanded to do that they must teach and baptize all nations in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost according to the scriptures of Matthew 28:19 KJV [19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Only Apostle Peter to whom Jesus gave the keys of the kingdom of heaven according to the scriptures of Matthew 16:19 KJV [19] And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. It was Apostle Peter to whom Jesus gave the keys of the kingdom of heaven to bind on earth that shall be bound in heaven, and loose on earth that shall be loosed in heaven according to the scriptures of Matthew 16:17-19 KJV [17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. [18] And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. The name Cephas is from the Aramaic word kepha for rock or great boulder. The name Peter is from the Greek word petra, which also means rock. Peter is Aramaic Kepha for rock/stone. In Matthew 16:18 Jesus called Simon, Peter, and in John 1 and other New Testament books he is mentioned as Cephas. Simon's name in Hebrew meant listen or hearing, I would give the Greek meaning but that may start a debate. If you see Simon, Simon Peter, or Cephas it is the same man, one of the apostles of Jesus.

And...
He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? Matthew 16: 2 & 3

Absence of words do not set an agreement to a matter.
Where did HE say that? About washing? HE said Matthew 15:3, Matthew 15:7-11, Matthew 16:20,
These were leaders, teachers, transcribers of GOD's Laws, "the Holy Scriptures" in the Jewish religion. HE, Jesus "Jewish" Messiah, was pointing out to them the importance of the Laws they were supposed to know, transcribe & teach.
Matthew 15:7-9, HE, Jesus brings of prophetic Words from the very Books they were supposed to know. Then HE addresses the people. Matthew 15:10-12,13,14
Then Matthew 15:15-20 Jesus points out the true defilement Matthew 15:18,19,20,

interestingly we feel offended for her, yet she persisted, then was granted a miracle & an edification for her "great faith" .
Hopefully these are helpful.
Yes, I do believe in Hell, and I do believe that God will send sinners that don't repent from sin to Hell. Jesus speaks of hell in this verse in a very plain manner - easy to understand:
Matthew 10:28
"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Do you not believe this verse? Do you just ignore Jesus?
Earl, there is no salvation unless we repent. There is no repentance without a change to our former lifestyle. There is no eternal life without turning from sin to Jesus for salvation.
Many people are sorry for their sins, yet not enough to change their life. True repentance will be sincere, and will include genuine sorrow, and should compel an earnest desire to change, and discontinue former sins.
A Christian that accepts and follows Jesus will never in this life, be sin free. They should however," struggle and toil" to be sin less. This is our cross to bear! Jesus tells us to pick up "our cross" and follow him! Matthew 16:24-25
Today, the largest crowd that yells the loudest about faith/grace and nothing else, are looking for the easy way out. Yes Jesus died for our sins, but not so that we can continue in our sinful ways. We need to pick up our crosses too, and follow Jesus! That takes action on our part!
There are "no free tickets to heaven".
God Bless

Hopefully these fully answer your question about Jesus, GOD & The HOLY Spirit.
This discussion came up Holidays 2019, there was hatred towards not wearing masks in donut shop Southern California 80-90 degrees near beach. Teenager asked "wouldn't Jesus just be nice" then it hit me with fire inside my spirit. I replied "Jesus would be the first to bring alarm!" "If they were going to arrest people for getting too close, touching the sick, HE'd probably be first" I could envision HIM hugging & healing people & upsetting the "norm" as "enforcers" would say "HE isn't allowed to do that."
Luke 13:1-17, Luke 13:20-35, * Mark 3:1-6,9,10, *
Hypocrisy of crowds, sporting events, parades, but Jesus crowds? Mark 2:2, hypocrisy= John 19:31, Luke 4:14-44,
not wearing masks, HE'd probably be taking them off, elderly & children 1st. Would the creator of man, mankind, want them breathing carbondioxide, weaking their lungs, hiding HIS glory? 2 Corinthians, 1 John 1:1, seeking to save themselves? Luke 17:33, Matthew 16:35, Luke 8:35, John 12:25, Matthew 6:25
Luke 6:1-19,
John 9:1-7 can you imagine? criminal charges today?
+ HE actually gave commands to heal the sick, Matthew 10:8, Luke 10:9, Acts 4:28-30,
"The saddest thing about all the hate, meaness, is when this is over, people will remember how badly they were treated" "let's try to remember that & be kind"
Matthew 25:39
It's almost 2022. Those mandates have caused division, job loss, depression etc., yet what proof of any good?
To further answer your question: I have been in much prayer about it & I do not take lightly any scripture. I believe in USA we are a "Nation under GOD" being The People we are the ones with the Governing authority as per The Declaration of Independence, The US Constitution & all States Constitutions. The people putting forth "Mandates" know they have not authority to call them "laws" they are therefore those that "resist the power & Ordinances of GOD" & the Higher power is GOD.
Hopefully these are helpful.
1) This assembly was a 'continuation' of Christ's 'earthly political kingdom' assembly He mentioned in Matthew 16:18
This assembly of God's 'prophetic/law' program Must NEVER be 'Confused' with, And Must Be
Rightly Divided 2 Timothy 2:15 From "Things That DIFFER!"
2) God's MYSTERY/GRACE program which has, NOT 'a woman Nor a bride,' but, Has God's "one NEW man" Ephesians 2:15, Which Is God's 'Heavenly spiritual' Organism, The Body Of Christ, Whose Birthday Is Acts 9, God's GRACE 'church' Of TODAY! Amen?
3) Many MORE 'Differences' in God's TWO 'Different' programs and assemblies are here
Prophecy vs MYSTERY: Link
I say this with love, and also for others that are seeking the truth. Jesus absolutely did not do away with the 10 Commandments/Law, including the Holy Sabbath Day, Saturday.
Jesus states:
John 14:15
"If ye love me, keep my commandments."
Jesus knows who loves him, because they will keep his commandments. Many people don't even try to keep God's commandments because it doesn't facilitate their worldly lifestyle. We have to ask ourselves this important question: Do we let our lifestyles guide us, or God's words?
Jesus said: Matthew 16:25
"For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it." Do you believe this scripture?
Matthew 24:35
"Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."
So are you saying that Jesus words in John 14:15, and Matthew 24:35,have passed away?
Hebrews 13:8
"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever."
Are you saying that Jesus Christ changed? His words no longer matter?
Jesus death on the cross and the new covenant does not erase the Ten Commandments/Law. Please read what God tells us about the new covenant and the law:
Hebrews 8:10
"For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:"
God is telling us he will put his laws into our minds, and our hearts! Do you believe this? This scripture is very important: Matthew 5:18 "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Do you believe this scripture?
The scripture is very clear, and easy to understand. We can't change the scripture, but many try to ignore or twist it into a puzzle that doesn't even make sense.
Read it and believe it!
God Bless
I'm only addressing the two of you by name (right now) because you are both correct (on most) of these issues & today Earl I think people do need to know & address; there are differences in eternity & grave. Today the world faces many issues & decisions that lead to the grave. (I have lost many loved ones, from decisions that led to destruction, ultimately the grave) examples smoking, addictions, drinking etc.) we today have sugar flooding our foods & obesity even in medical practice. The biggest discussion in society, religion & political is actually right in line with 'which destruction?' "death', immunization, etc. Luke 9:25, Mark 8:36, John 12:25, Matthew 16:26,
I would like eveyones input on= What do feel the LORD leading us to discuss about the differences? Where our focuses should be? How do we discuss people making bad health choices?
Please even address this Matthew 15:19, if you would.
I would like to grow some in understanding.
John 17:21-24
If you're in USA the Declaration of Independence of The United States of America, The Constitution of The U.S. & every State Constitution including Hawaii, : We The People of the U.S. to be the governing authority. Please read each Preamble!. Furthermore it not only affirms We The People being the Governing authority but that we have a Duty to stand against tyranny & long chain of abuses. The free World depends on it, & for us being given the authority to lead.
The orgin of a'shot' is protecting our own lives. Matthew 16:25-27, Luke 9:23-26,
There are documents & whistle blowers exposing aborted child organs used & material that fights against the immune system of man, made by GOD ALMIGHTY in HIS image. Genesis 1:27,

Psalms 106:36-39
Judas sold Jesus because he was tempted by the devil and he listened and chose to act on what the devil urged him to do. e chose to sin on his own accord, as we all do. Interesting that Jesus did not reject Judas in any of this encounter. But Judas probably thought that e could not receive forgiveness, because it says he repented and returned the money. This hopelessness of not being forgiven most likely made him determined to follow through with suicide. If he had waited until after the resurrection, he may have realized that Jesus was ready to forgive him, if he believed in Jesus.
I find that your various reply's to this thread have been very on target, thoughtful, and most of all encouraging.
As Christ followers we are asked to also carry our own crosses. Jesus, Paul, and the other apostles encourage us to do so in so much of their scripture.
Matthew 16:24-26
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
We need to be participators, not spectators, in our salvation!
God Bless.
While Peter was arguably the most impulsively outspoken disciple and unofficially considered a leader among the disciples, The LORD expressed this verse in such a way as to distinguish Peter from the Church's True and Actual HEAD, namely, LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF.
The proper name Peter translates from the Greek proper noun (transliterated "Petros"; pronounced "PET-ros"), meaning a stone or a small rock. Compare The LORD addressing Simon (Peter) as recorded in John 1:42: "When JESUS beheld him (Simon Peter), HE said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas {the Greek rendering of the Aramaic}, which is by interpretation, A stone {Grk. noun "petros"}." From that point on, Simon (the Greek rendering of the Hebrew proper name Simeon) was commonly addressed by the surname Peter (a stone or small rock).
By great contrast, when The LORD proclaimed, "upon This ROCK I will build MY Church", HE identified HIMSELF as the Church's ROCK. Here, the word "ROCK" translates from the Greek noun root (transliterated "petra"; pronounced "PET-ra"), meaning a rock of immense and formidable size which covers a massive geographical footprint (cp. Mt. 7:25-25; 27:60; Mk. 15:46; Lu. 6:48; 8:6 & 13). The reader may think of the Rock of Gibraltar in contrast to a pebble.
Additionally, "PETRA" never refers to Peter, but always identifies LORD JESUS CHRIST (cp. Rom. 9:33; 1Cor. 10:4; 1Pet. 2:8).
In Matthew 16:13, Jesus is not asking His disciples who they say He is. He's asking what the public's opinion was about who He is. He says who do men say that I the Son of man am?
In Matthew 16:14, the disciples give four different answers as to who the public says He is. Today, when the question is asked, we get many different responses about who Jesus is.
But when we get to Matthew 16:15, now it's personal. Now Jesus wants to know who His disciples say He is. The first question is public opinion. Now Jesus asks whom do you (His disciples) say that I am.
Peter gives a perfect response. Peter says "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." Wow! There are two very important parts to this confession. The first part says "Thou art the Christ," HO CHRISTOS, the Christ. Christ is the translation of the Greek word that is the same as the Hebrew word for Messiah, MESHIACH, and it means the anointing.
So the Jews believed that when Messiah came, He would be the anointing of God in human form. And that's who He is. Peter says "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."
If you ever look up the phrase (Son of the living God), not from a religious standpoint, but from a Hebrew standpoint, you will find out that is the phrase that is used for God.
This was Peter's response. And please keep in mind that Peter was a Jew. So when Peter said "the Son of the living God," that is a title of God to the Jews. So, what Peter was confessing was you are the Messiah and you are God. Wow, what a Confession!
The importance is that everybody must settle it in their own hearts and minds about who Jesus is. Was He just a great man? Was He just a great teacher? Was He a great healer? Or was He God in the flesh? I'm going with Peter's confession and saying that He was God come in the flesh!
Those two examples you've given wouldn't seem to me prophetic but foresight if it didn't edify the Church, encouraged, give direction, revelation etc., In line with GOD & HIS Words we could reflect on. Ezekiel is an example of very strange exhibited behavior probably to get the attention of "a stubborn people" so even if someone seems weird that might not be a reason not to listen. So, in the examples you gave on the surface it seems irrelevant to us.
Let me give an example. Yesterday we were discussing Australia. Amanda Grace has given prophetic 'Words' regarding Australia saying things like "GOD hasn't forgotten you Australia" she said several things about leadership & GOD knowing the wrong that some leadership were doing. I think she said an earthquake would be a sign, there was a large earthquake very soon after then a few political things happened with people stepping down. Then just recently a Pro.Life Premier was elected. Looks to reflect in line with GOD's will. Her blog has her written prophectic Words Amanda Grace Ark of Grace.
Even with accurate 'Words' 1 Kings 13:11-34, Deuteronomy 13:1-5, serve GOD only. Hopefully this helps
I've thought of it many times as even though knowing the outcome Paul through Jesus' example was able to face adversity regardless of the outcome. Luke 9:22, Luke 9:44, Luke 18:31-33, Matthew 16:21-27, Matthew 17:22-23, Mark 8:31-38,
John 21:15-19,
Old Testament 2 Kings 2:1,2,3,5,9,11,12,
We are all born sinners, but we don't have to continue to sin, because sin is the wrong choice.
Romans 5:12
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"
Once we hear the gospel of Jesus Christ we now have the same choice - as Judas, we can choose Jesus, or the world. The world consists of money, power, material things, and many ways to sin.
Matthew 6:24
"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."
I choose God, and hope and pray that you will do the same. Stay close to your bible.
God Bless.
