Ephesians 1:14. The concept of the Kinsman-Redeemer was in the Book of Ruth; as to Boaz obtaining Ruth as part of his inheritance; or you could say "property". The concept of ownership is foreign in today's culture in terms of slavery; however we should look at verses such as Luke 17:10 on us being "unworthy servants" when we do what we are told. With the story of Ruth she was from a Gentile origin; and her sister Orpha decided to abandon Naomi when she told her to go back to her people (the Moabites). Apparently Ruth's first husband was an Israelite but he had died. Ruth hanging on despite Naomi asking her to go back reminds me somewhat of the tenacity of the Gentile woman asking for healing in Matthew 15:26. The colloquialism Christ used was of the dogs; yet she was commended for her faith.

Obviously; Christ redeemed us as His bride from among all mankind according to the Ephesians quote and this is mentioned in many other verses (Google search is always very helpful). As Boaz brought value to Ruth by marrying her and continuing the lineage of Naomi's family we are adopted as sons ( Romans 8:14-17). God took us; worthless sinners hopelessly lost and His enemies and took on our sin defeating it with His blood sacrifice once and for all at the Cross. He purchased us and it even pleased God to crush Him to accomplish this ( Isaiah 53:10). God's love therefore transcends our own as we would scarcely die for a righteous man let alone a wicked one (according to human standards) according to Romans 5:7.

Now that we are part of His family; we also will recieve crowns as a reward for faithfulness ( James 1:12 etc). We shall rule and reign with Him ( Matthew 19:28-29) but notice the caviat; "if we suffer for Him". We are warned in Revelation 3:11 about losing our reward; that is not a salvation issue. However; we need to make sure that we are producing fruit "meet of repentance" ( Acts 26:20). If He lives within us we are transformed and a new man.

These two things we do not deserve are swathed in one word, love that is shown in John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

We as sinners are worthy of death and God has the power and justification to punish us for sin, but our LORD God is a merciful God. This was first shown when God covered Adam and Eve's shame with the skins of the first sacrifice in the garden where they did not walk naked, the same as the last sacrifice will do, the Lamb of God, God did for all who will believe will be covered, Rev. 16:15.

God's grace is to all, and by His grace, we are here on a beautiful planet that we were given. God made a covenant with Abraham and his descendants and came to the law that defines what is sin, for without the law there is no transgression whereas another greater grace could be given, Romans 5:20-21.

By the grace of God, the penalties of the law were paid by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This was first given to the house of Israel, but as written God extended this grace to all of us as in Rom. 1:16-17, that we should be more grateful that God sent His Son to redeem those under the law and then would include us in the adoption of sons and daughters. To me, that is the grace in the New Testament.

In Gods' mercy, He does not give us what we deserve, in His grace, a gift of salvation and eternal life we do not deserve and are only righteous through the life, sacrifice, and resurrection of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

Discussion on God's love.

Much of today's talk is of "falling in love" with Christ. We need to carefully examine the character and nature of the Godhead before attaching human; emotional or seemingly romantic sentiments on the Creator and Judge; Lord; Savior and Master.

There is no root in human nature; i.e. the flesh which desires God; in fact we are at enmity with Him in our carnal state and in fact enemies of God ( Romans 5:10). The fact that there is contention between the flesh and Spirit ( Galatians 5:17); and vice versa.

It is only in dying to self where we can submit to His authority; and the source of the life within us comes from heavenly places ( Galatians 2:20). The closest we could say about a human relationship is that we submit to each other; or sacrifice our lives.

Apart from Christ; we have two sinners that are by the grace of God involved (if married) in a covenant with God where if allowed in a best case scenario the individuals will finally be broken enough to realize that the Lord is the only thing that can change their selfish interest and natures. Any human sentiment is based on self satisfaction and or gratification which at best is a skewed shadow of God's love. This is also illustrated in Christ's story of how even us "being evil" bring good gifts to our kids. ( Matthew 7:11). We are also "unworthy servants" if we do what is expected ( Luke 17:10).

There are those who would at least put on a show of outward appearance of kindness; generousity; and self sacrifice. Apart from Christ; we can only say that the Lord is using these individuals to meet earthly needs as well as those of believers in His Providence. It is only by His grace that we would want to take on the nature of Christ; a "man of sorrows' ( Isaiah 53:3); as well as dying to self daily; carrying our cross and truly being a disciple and counting the cost. And today's Christian industries of entertainment often appeal the flesh; and have weak at best doctrines to live by.

To add to the discussion on Psalm 22; the sufferings of Christ; His one time separation from the Father so that He could be the atonement for our sins and utter rejection by His own should be considered carefully. There are plenty of scientific journals which talk of the incredible suffering with the brutality of a crucifixion. We need to remember that while we were yet ENEMIES Christ died for us. (see Romans 5:8; Ephesians 2:3 and many other scriptures). He experienced what we under the blood will never have to experience when taking on our sin and trading it for His righteousness through the sacrifice on the cross. There is more to see here as we get to Psalm 24 on that subject.

As for now; we remember that He will always have the nail scarred hands and feet on His resurrected body. ( Luke 24:39). He conquered death itself; which also is a theme discussed in the next study on Psalm 23 often used to assure those on their hour of need or to those facing death. Our only hope is in Christ; as are the blessings so we need to carefully examine our hearts to see if we are right with the Lord NOW. (See Hebrews 9:27).

What this means is they (Zachariah and Elisabeth) were Torah observant. What that means is when they committed an act of sin, they would bring their sacrifice according to the requirements of the law, and that's what it means by keeping the ordinances blameless.



It doesn't mean that they were sinless. It just means that they did everything according to the Law. They were Torah observant and therefore they were righteous according to as the Torah is concerned. So as far as character you couldn't get two people that were more in line with the righteousness of the Torah than these two.

its means on your own you can not make yourself righteous but by Gods mercy he has made us righteous.This is clearly done at the cross by the blood of Jesus.

Romans 3:10 says there is none righteous no not one but

Further thoughts on Revelation 17

The beginning of the chapter in verses 1-5 has been defined traditinally by many Reformers in particular as the Roman Catholic church. There is much in the color of the robes and ornate processions and the overall grandeur of Vatican City which certainly at least partially defines this apostate religion. However; we need to see the future and final fulfillment; and realistically assess the whole ecumenical movement in the last 20 years or so to realize that much of what were bastions of the faith in mainline churches such as Presbyterian; Baptist; and Methodist congregations are just as far gone; and often have traditions very similar to this. This would encompass certain elements of the Greek Orthodox and probably Coptic churches as well.

There is no reason to exclude the mystical branches of Islam (who are considered apostate by other Muslims). There is much eastern occultic influence among those who call themselves Jews today; many of which follow a cultural type of religion; and/or steeped in the Talmud which really had its roots with some of the Parasitical doctrines as well as other gnostic teachings which crept into both Jewish and Christian circles since the time of Christ.

Verse 8 is revealing because not only could it refer to the apparent resurrection of Antichrist in Zechariah 11:17 but also could refer to the appearance of Satan at the end of the Millennium period after being hidden in the bottomless pit the whole 1000 years. In either case; unregenerate men not in the Book of Life still will be drawn into the rebellion. Time simply doesn't change a man's heart; only a supernatural change (see Ezekiel 36:26). May we see that was OUR state when we once were enemies of God ( Romans 5:10) and live changed lives accordingly; fearing God and testing to see if we are inthe faith ( 2 Cor. 13:5).

These are some great responses and I agree that Jesus is our peace. For me, peace is not a feeling but a person. And that person is Jesus Christ. I experience peace because I experience Christ in me. It's His peace. If I had to describe the peace I have in Christ, I would look at Romans 5:1-21, which talks about the privileges of justification.

Romans 5:1 starts out by saying, "Therefore being justified by faith." Even though the word "being" is in there which shows a condition or a state, literally in the Greek text it shows past tense. It is literally "After (having been) placed in a position of justification."

So now I've been justified. It's put in the past. It's a one-time thing, never to be taken back. So now after I have been justified by faith, there are seven things that are mine as an inheritance according to the next verses in Romans Chapter 5. The first thing listed is that I have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. The language indicates peace with Him because once I was at enmity with Him. I was once His enemy, but I now have peace with God.

That's is not a performance statement. It has nothing to do with my performance. It is a positional statement! My position with God is that I have peace with God. Now that does not mean that I always experience the peace of God. That's on an individual circumstance basis.

In Philippians 4:7, Paul says that once you surrender everything over to Christ, and you pray and give it all to Him, that the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. It is the peace "of" God.

So, I always have peace with God. I am never His enemy and He is never my enemy. That's positional! But to experience the peace of God comes when I trust Christ, like Abraham did by faith, I experience the peace of God.

Mike, one way to look at peace is the absent of conflict. Faith sets the mind at one with God so our thinking is no more in conflict with God's will. We simply believe God and take him at His Word which brings peace to our mind. Romans 5:1,2 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 7 gives the example of the conflict: "For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I" and outcome of the conflict and the old nature: "O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?" But Roman 8:5,6 gives the solution to the conflict through walking in the Spirit, "For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit, For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace". The Holy Spirit is received through faith.

He died once for all of us Galatians 3:28 in a very powerful way. A pattern that is similar in the Old Testament-sacrificial shedding of blood of the lamb. God knows we cannot save ourselves. So we need a Saviour Jesus Christ. He did it for us All. My prayers are to help everyone understand this basic concept and many will be saved. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. We do not believe in vain, nor we put the work of ALL apostles, most especially Paul who was the last apostle to write plethora of information for everyone to be saved. Remember the Bible is complete by itself. God gave us a free gift of grace Romans 5:15-18. The ten Commandments are for us to see how sinful we are. That is why Paul calls it a schoolmaster Galatians 3:24-25. So when you believe, trust and have faith in Jesus Christ's blood that He shed for our sins Romans 3:25; 1 John 2:2; 1 John 4:10 we die with Him Galatians 2:20. That is the baptism without submerging yourself into the water Acts 1:5, Acts 10:47,Roman's 6:3, Galatians 3:27, 1 Corinthians 10:2. We are not divided Christians 1 Corinthians 1:13-16, 1 Corinthians 12:13. Once you are saved you are sealed Ephesians 1:13, 2 Corinthians 1:22, John 6:27. Jesus sent Paul to seal us Gentiles Romans 15:28. So grieve not Ephesians 4:30. When the Holy Spirit is in you you do not want to commit sin, if you do, you are letting your old self to dominate your spirit. We are walking in the Spirit of God. God already won. Do not let Satan defeat you (on going Spiritual warfare) that is why let every thought to be with God 2 Corinthians 10:5. I came back to fulfill with the help of the Holy Spirit to ask that you trust only Jesus and not yourself here on earth. Let Jesus do the rest. In a way you we lost our salvation win Adam sinned. Romans 5:12. There is no way we can redeem ourselves. Isaiah 64:6. Without focusing on what the filthy rags are, have you ever tried cleaning with one? Our salvation is not in our hands. Our salvation and Sanctification is in the Lords hands.

If our lack of perfection couldn't achieve salvation, how is our lack of perfection going to keep salvation? or obtain it again if we lost it.

If you have ETERNAL LIFE you have it NOW.

John 10:28. And I give unto them eternal life; AND THEY SHALL NEVER PERISH, NEITHER SHALL ANY MAN PLUCK THEM OUT OF MY HAND.,

When we are saved we are sealed.

Ephesians 4:30. And grieve not the HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD, WHEREBY YE ARE SEALED UNTO THE DAY OF REDEMPTION.

You're right bro S. Spencer, we do tend to focus on that which causes us to wonder - where nothing more is said about what Jesus wrote on the ground. Yours is a good guess as also the many others who have their suggestions; but they can remain only in our thoughts.

Mine were directed to Isaiah 55:7, "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon." Could Jesus have written along those lines, 'God is merciful to sinners - show mercy', as they readied themselves to hurl their stones. And then Jesus stood up & spoke to them, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." With those words & whatever Jesus had written on the ground, they got the message, that mercy ought to prevail, even as Jesus put aside His authority to administer justice to her.

Yet the Law was still in force - but Jesus' coming brought in a transitional period, where the Law began to fade away, for the 'fulness of God's Grace & Glory' now stood before them ( John 1:14), culminating in the full expression of that Grace, at the Cross. Even if the religious leaders had the power to judge & penalize, Jesus was showing (even through this encounter with this woman), that mercy & forgiveness was now the order of the day, as this was to be seen in Jesus Himself present with them - that the harsh implications of the Law and entrance of God's abundant Grace in Christ, had absolutely no correlation, indeed, diametrically opposed to each other.

The Law revealed sin & only brought death & sin abounded by the Law for there was no mechanism within the Law to bring about a change in heart & life. Grace now came through Christ and was able to deal with that unbridled sin - that Grace might reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord." ( Romans 5:20,21). Those leaders might not have learned this, but at least seem convicted.

This is what encourages evangelism. People need to see our happiness and ability to endure crisis. They want to know why we have faith in Jesus.

The Bible is more than a book. It's Words give life to anyone who will begin to read it. When we stop reading it, our lives sort of unravel. Nothing else can soothe our souls and give us faith to believe in meeting the God who wrote this Bible.

It's best to begin our journey with our Savior, in the Gospels and on towards the books 1-2-3 John, in the back.

It's about the planting and cultivating of Jesus's Church. We're to do that too :) For some people they become missionaries; others may fund a missionaries work. Not all churches have 5000+ members.

As long as what we do is, "as unto Jesus Christ our Lord", anything we give towards the work (time, help, missions giving, commitment to pray prayers), the Gospel continues to bear fruit. Amen.

The Tribulation is the reason we pray and preach. It's not a movie. It's really going to happen.

This is one of Scripture's truly great promises about what it means to be in Christ. Paul has been giving thanks to God for all the amazing things He has done for the Christians in Corinth. Everything he has mentioned is true of all Christians.

Reading these words, it's important to notice that nothing Paul has written mentions anything the Corinthians themselves have done. God has done it all, in and for them, as a free gift because of their faith in Christ. The rest of Paul's letter will show that as individuals and as a church, these believers in Corinth struggle with major spiritual problems. They are indulging in attitudes and actions that are sinful. Still, Paul writes the words of this verse to them and to all who are in Christ. God will not stop giving the Corinthians His good gifts. He will not stop sustaining them, keeping them going, holding them together. They will remain guiltless or blameless in His eyes all the way to the return of Christ on the day of the Lord.

How is this possible? Why would God do this? God's grace to us is rightly called "amazing." For those who come to Him by faith, God receives Christ's death as payment for our sins and gives us credit for Christ's righteous, sinless life on earth ( Romans 5:6-11). That's why, instead of dreading the return of Christ, Christians can wait for it with eager hopefulness ( Galatians 5:5; Romans 8:19-25).

Could Christ have sinned?

I don't think so.

We're not sinners because we sinned.

We sin because we're sinners.

The sin nature don't enter you once you sin.

Psalms 51:5. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Our sinful nature comes from the natural man. We inherited that nature NOT because we sinned! WE INHERITED THE NATURE TO SIN!

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:45-47.

Jesus was a life giving spirit from heaven.

Adam was made a living soul out of the dust of the ground.

If Adam would have never sinned he couldn't have given everlasting life.

Romans 5:14. Nevertheless DEATH REIGNED FROM ADAM TO MOSES, EVEN OVER THEM THAT HAD NOT SINNED AFTER THE SIMILITUDE OF ADAM'S TRANSGRESSION, who is the figure of him that was to come.

( WHO IS THE FIGURE OF HIM THAT WAS TO COME.) Jesus was to come into the world even before Adam sinned. Adam wasn't capable of living a sinless life.

When was Jesus the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the whole world? When he died on the cross?

BEFORE THE CROSS!

1 Peter 1:19-20. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of A LAMB WITHOUT BLEMISH AND WITHOUT SPOT:

Who verily WAS FOREORDAINED BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD,....( BUT WAS MANIFEST IN THESE LAST TIMES FOR YOU,)

Matthew 4:1 THEN WAS JESUS LED UP OF THE SPIRIT into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

Do you notice Satan didn't hunt down Jesus? Jesus was led by the Spirit to Satan. This was to prove he was the son of God and ONLY the son of God cannot sin because he is God. Here Satan is just used as an instrument.
