Nice to hear from you again CrossTalker. So, to your questions.
a. You can read a little about Tobit in the book of the same name; and you can find it on this KJBO Site under Standard KJB Apocrypha. Tobit was from the tribe of Naphtali and was apparently blind (Tobit 2:7-10). Since I am not at all studied in any of these apocryphal books, I will leave you to research the man & his writings; remembering this is what is considered OT Apocrypha, writings between the Testaments, which neither the Jews nor Jesus referred to. Hence, proceed with caution, would be my best advice.
b. Re: yoga. Coming from a partial Indian background and knowing what is done over there by its adherents, I would stay well clear of it. In the Indian context, yoga is a holistic discipline involving various physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), and meditation (with chanting & prayers to the deities), deeply rooted in the spiritual (Hindu) and philosophical traditions. In our Western society, the emphasis is mainly on the physical side, but I say, why dabble in something that has its roots in idolatry and mysticism, when a believer can engage in many other useful physical exercises with the greatest spiritual exercise of all in prayer & reading & meditating on God's Word.
c. I'm unsure where this person gained the information of "double judgements" and "light punishment". It would be useful to know what Scriptures were used to support this. Maybe, some RC teaching of praying for the dead & therefore the need of a purgatory are reflected here, and even this teaching is taken & interpreted from the apocryphal book 2 Maccabees 12:39-45. Whereas the Bible clearly tells us that all of us are sinners and worthy of punishment in hell, but for the Grace of God to save us if only we repent and turn from sin and take hold of His Son in faith to redeem us ( Romans 3:23,24; Hebrews 9:27). I found out about Tobit when I was a teenager. I think my brother told me because he was into the Grateful Dead. Apparently they got the title of their band from Tobit.
The dead ; who were left in the street to rot after they were killed by the wicked king, were grateful that one of their country men took them and gave them a burial. He even risked his life to do so. I was never that crazy about the Dead's music , but I sure liked that story. It took a considerable amount of time to find it.
I'm of the humble opinion that if this gentleman did exist, and he did do as the story stated; then-
THE Lord was like" Wow! This guy is so cool that I'm going to put him in my book!"
I dont know... I like this story. I know doesn't it follow the general theme of the of the other books. They point to the messiah, or the nation of Israel, the people. This is story about poor suffering Jew in Diaspora who did something remarkable for his brethren.
I found out about Enoch when I was 12. Initially, I didn't take Enoch seriously. A year ago I re-read Mythology stories; honestly, my eyes are open never realized those stories were true sometimes we have to keep hearing the lesson; before we learn absolute, Biblical Truth.
i think if these books were added to the bible in this generation so many people would be mislead because of ignorance and they would receive wrong interpretation from the spirits of error
ALL THESE BOOK WERE Taken out of the bible by the Catholics they are all part of the hidden from us by men through satan but God will add plague unto them. woe be unto the who add and taken out
I am a 61years of age and for me the book of Tobit is a new way of learning about something I didn't Know. But I do know is most pastor have a king James Bible with the books of Tobit and the book of Enoch and the books Maccabees.but for these responds no teaching.
Whoever thinks that these books should be in the bible, have only read the bible, not studied it. These books ARE NOT in harmony with the rest of the bible. They confuse and draw people away from a clear 'thus saith the Lord'. In my opinion, they are the work of another Christ...
