Perhaps the BRANCH in verse 8 is the same as the Redeemer in verse 20, chapter 59 of Isaiah. This may be Jesus filled with the Holy Spirit directing the Christian nations of the world. The Holy Spirit of God is the corner stone of righteousness which unites the Christian people that face Satan 's conflict. Perhaps the 7 eyes are 7 predominately Christian nations.

Verse3, garments do not always represent clothing in the Bible. In Isa. 59 verse 17 garments are vengeance. Perhaps Joshua was filled with hate and wanted vengeance when he faced the Lords angel. The emotion of vengeance must be removed before peace can be established.

Garment is for coverage; it beautifies a man; it brings joy, confidence and self-esteeme.
Thus, Joshua went through hardship because of his filthy coverage, sin. Matthew9:16-17.
Thus, the angel came to cleanse him and put on him a new garment(identity) and he became God's own image.
