    What was the purpose of Melchisdec? I know he is shadow and type of Christ...but why was he needed...

    Melchizedek was High Priest until Jesus ascended to Heaven immediately after his resurrection.

    Remember he told Mary not to touch him until he had ascended to the Father in heaven? It would have defiled Him.

    Jesus is our High Priest seated at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for all saints.
