There is no true Greek word for hell. The origin of the word hell dates back to 700 AD or so and is actually comparative to Gehenna, not Hades. Hades is the grave and Gehenna was a deep, narrow Valley of Hinnom where Judean Kings Ahaz and Manasseh engaged in idolatrous worship, which included child sacrifices by fire to Ba'al. Later it became a place for mass disposal of dead bodies.
