" Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city,"Dan.9.23-24 and it is specific, 'and to bring in everlasting righteousness'. While studying the mystery of numbers we are to fix the significance of numbers expressed in months and days. 70 is made up of 7x10 and it is to bring in everlasting righteousness. It is revealed by Gabriel who also figures in the gospels, He is also addressed as man and angel,('Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning'). Number 7 is with regards to the everlasting covenant set forth in Genesis ch.1 These seven days concern the man blessed by God in our image. It is not Jewish nation but simply man. It is with reference to man God says, "And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years." (Gen.6.3) Thus we have two numbers 7x10 and 12x10. Command number 7 indicates completeness, the Law or the Word. The Word was God.(Jn.1.1) Man who is blessed of God is freed from condemnation.(Ro.8.1). The 144,000 standing with the Lamb are made up of 1200x12000 which is a measure of the holy city. "and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal." (Rev.21.16)
What Gabriel referred to Daniel as 70 weeks is about the Law of the Spirit while what St John measures is the holy city. It is not literal Jerusalem. It is John who measures, "And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein."(Rev.11.1) Here we have a curious word, measure them that worship therein." This is the congregation in heavenly places, and tagged by 12x12= 144 is the volume of man blessed under 7 days of the covenant. Also note, "that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years."(2 Pet.3.8)
