Phillipians 3:14 states that "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." This follows verse 8 which states all things are counted as loss for the cause of Christ and the previous verse 13 which discusses leaving things behind and forgetting them. When we look at the life of Christ and the Apostles we don't see any dwelling on the insults and persecution they all went through. No doubt the prayers of the faithful and fellowship of the Saints were there strength; and that should be paramount in our lives. I myself still have a Therapist who is nominally Christian but now that things are settled as to my parents and such I am ready to eliminate this counsel by the end of this year. Such counsel was as is often the case unsuccessful in stopping a difficult marriage from falling apart (affairs tend to do that); but her situation was very similar as being an only child taking care of parents with Dementia and other issues I faced. My Christian community has helped me greatly and I have several new friends.
As to real life situations; we have situations in scripture such as rape (Absolom's brother with Tamar); as well as killings and revenge killings and such. God had the law to enact very real punishments; but lessons can be learned in scripture as how not to bear grudges and take vengeance on our own without seeking the Lord first. I have seen God cut lives short of people who have either assaulted me or who were generally violent and unstable. Not to belabor the point but my father has been mocking me and mentally abusive to this date although the Dementia has somewhat subdued it. He now has a Christian woman as a supervisor where he is staying and another Christian friend from my church who brought him a meal after my mom died is planning to visit him soon. God heals all wounds; through God's help I will restrain anger towards his behaviors. To heal God often has us help others.
