"Though ye have lien among the pots, yet shall ye be as the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold."
In a broader sense pots are a metaphor for physical bodies. God commands Jeremiah to instruct the nation with the earthen pot, "Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,/ And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again."(Jer.19.10-11).The psalm is referring to the soul of man which is like a dove. "And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest."(Ps.55.6) Gideon's ragtag army won the battle, "And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon."(Judg.7.20) The sword of God was what the army carried within the pitcher or pot. Our soul merely because is hidden does not mean it has no role. For anyone who trusts in God and obeys him the soul is like a dove with silvery wings tipped with gold.
Earthen pots signifies brevity of earthly expectations. Instant gratification that rules over the worldly shall know how foolish they are. ""As a snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun./Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath."(Ps.58.8-9)
In the day of wrath these pots shall be smashed with a rod of iron."(Rev.19.15) God set Jeremiah at the eastern gate, pointing to the end times. "The valley of slaughter where God has prepared a feast, "and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth./And I will make this city desolate, "(Jer.19.2,6-8)
