"Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off."
Notice the tag, 'third day' and the Spirit intends it as a parallel narrative. "And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you." The two young man represents those with whom we have to transact on daily lives but they have no hold on .our worsip of the Lord
"And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together."(v.6)
The Spirit continues with the parallel narrative where the lad labouring under the wood evokes Christ on the way to Golgotha.
" And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together..
In order to illustrate the significance 'they went both of them together' we have these verses, "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."(Heb.4.15-16)
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all."(Isa.53.6)
The lad allowed himself to be bound, a sheep to slaughter,"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."(2 Cor.5.21)
" And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I." (v.11) Abraham walked with God as Noah and Enoch did. Here is a proof that we sojourn here together with our Lord. " The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men."(Psa.33.13-14)
