" And the Lord said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee."
It is God who tells Jacob. He was with Jacob as he slept at a certain place called Luz. It has another name, Bethel and he realised it when the Spirit set up the ladder in a vision. It is thus we are called in his Son. Now we shall come to Mahanaim where Jacob was not alone. " And the Lord said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee."(32.1). His death is recorded,"And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people."(49.33).That was physical death but he was along in the presence of God so we are living in the land of the living where God is the God of the living. It is for this purpose God called Jacob at Bethel.
In Jacob's blessings also we see the difference between Leah's sons and Joseph. He is the stone of Israel and not of the tribes. In the chapters we follow shall make it clear what the name Israel would signify. Moses tells the people before the Decalogue,"And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation."(Exod.19.6)
Significance of Melchizedek in Ch.14 is to introduce the two offices of anyone called in Christ. His volume is determined by the Covenant in Seven days. The Spirit sets Seven angels in the right hand of Christ in the inaugural vision of Christ. Seven angels with vials, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles."(Rev.15.6;19.8). This connects with Christ, 'and girt about the paps with a golden girdle."(Rev.1.13) St John sees Christ superimposed: Melchizedek, the Priest-King. The Spirit introduced the king of Salem so he proves that the Christ must have the fulness of GodFalse teachers do not cry, 'wolf, wolf'. They cry' gnosis' instead to distract us from their heresies. They are wolves in sheep clothes.
