"And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape."
God had promied Jacob to be with him." and I will be with thee.". In the light of this promise the angels meeting him at Mahanaim is to evoke the same legion of angels Jesus could command. "Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?"(Mt.26.53). His anguish was in his flesh while in his Spirit what the Spirit had already revealed was something else. This dilemma is explained by St Paul, "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his./And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness/But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you."(Rom.8.9-11)
The Spirit sets the scene for our instruction. He divided his people and good in two bands and send them over,"Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands."This brings comparison to what Mary chose. Jesus testifies,"But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."(Lk.10.42) Because of respect unto the recompence of the reward' one has to treat like St Paul,"Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,"(Phili.3.8) Two millennia of Christianity has merely run off from the back of great many Christians as water from the back of a duck, and what do we hear,'prosperity!
