Ecclesiastes 7:10 says: Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this.
Our parents and parents before them no doubt long for a society with structure and expected behaviors that characterized; more or less at least the Western adaptation of a Judeo Christian society. Needless to say sin and rebellion were always present in the fabric of entertainment but hidden with subtle innuendos hinting at more graphic horror; for instance in Hitchcock flicks or immorality which waxed and waned (i.e. the excesses during the "roaring 20s" as opposed to the societal norm after Prohibition.
As I probably stated before His Kingdom comes on His terms. We don't create our own mandate; however good it sounds and expect it to succeed unless it is founded on the rock as the church was under Peter. There are some whose rebellion is or should at least be so obvious that it is clear they have no changed heart as professed believers caught up in certain movements that are "Christian" by name only. It is of course the more nuanced and less obvious means which Satan can use a little lie to "leaven the whole lump" as it were ( Gal. 5:9). In a sense such an approach makes the Word seem more palatable even for the unregenerate who can "puff themselves up" as it were with platitudes and self aggrandizement which of course boils down to pride and nothing else. Exacerbated through church leadership cherry picking verses out of context is encouraging some to accept a watered down concept of all of scripture; while Biblical illiteracy convinces some to disregard (een burn the O.T. as one example on a video described that I recently viewed) and keep some imaginary deity representing only a loving humanitarian skeleton of Christ perhaps loosely related to the Beatitudes.
The Gospel properly taught with conviction; fear of God and reverence is unpopular today.
