Recently I told my Dad that I forgave him for what was years of mental abuse toward me and also regarding my mom. He is in such Dementia now that he has no real emotion at all; in the past likely he'd have a feigned response of listening but no doubt would quickly revert to sarcastic facial expressions of mocking; glaring in my eyes; etc. That glaring of eyes of pure hatred is something I was never able to master as to getting enraged myself. That resulted in my attempt to explain to him prior to being paced in the Memory Care facility that God could deliver him from that state of rage; but sadly whatever pride he chose to embrace at that point before his mind was further gone wouldn't allow him to consider it seriously.
That being said; despite his difference in personality now basically for the better God still holds all these years of mistreatment of others for the Judgment. All I can do is try to be a vessel filled with the love and truth of Christ. And pray that those in the facility who are believers or someone else gets through to him if I can't; including anyone I know who knows Christ that accompanies me on my visits.
Many NDI's seem to indicate that the current hell involves people living the past over and over; perhaps trapped in memories and tormented by demons. Whether that is just a subconscious torment or a glimpse of hades (as the lake of fire involves torment of other fallen entities as well); I certainly am convicted that whatever STATE a person is in if they remain unregenerate they cannot remove themselves from it and it's resulting punishment. First and foremost God determines levels of punishment.
We all need to be grateful we are delivered from ourselves and seated currently in heavenly places ( Eph. 2:6).
The Spirit within the Body of Christ enables us to forgive one another. There are both extremes; those who love to criticize others and those pretending they haven't been harmed. Stay centered.
