The created heavens and earth in Genesis 1:1 became without form and void as mentioned in vs 2. Subsequent to that God re-established the heavens and earth that were originally created. We now live in the "2nd Heavens and Earth". The 3rd and final (where paradise is re-established) is yet to come.
