In the chapter above the HEART OF GOD (things GOD LOVE and the things HE hate) is clearly seen; and yes we also see the wrath of Jehovah / GOD. ( Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me). WOW! WOW! WOW!.

Verses 21-24~Jehovah God did not look with delight upon the sacrifices of the people. They were not worshipping him in an acceptable way and their motives were not pure.

Verse 14: We must search for good and not what is bad. This will require effort because we are surrounded by badness.

The day of Christ is mentioned 3 times in the KJV bible, Philippians 1:10 Philippians 2:16 2 Thessalonians 2:2, and the coming of the Lord, James 5:7 - 5:8 2 Thessalonians 2:1. We all should be waiting for the day of Christ, and not the Day of the LORD, both are totally different. Please read 2 Peter 3:10, Amos 5:18, and Amos 5:20, we should not to be hoping or waiting for the Day of the LORD.

Ann; Again, Scripture has to be taken in the context it is written, and understood with sound thinking. Not all continue in sin with desperately wicked hearts! Those terms were used about a specific kind, because of their impossible to cure defiance! God has commanded us to walk in truth and righteousness; that's why we repent and are converted; and all for which He has died on the cross for us.

Steve; You asked, "HOW DO WE KNOW?" By using discernment! So much careful defending of the unholy and lawless these days; the righteous falling all over themselves to treat everyone like equals, and act as if they don't see anything filthy or perverted in their "chosen" lifestyle! The verse you shared is for us not to let hypocrisy give them opportunity to blaspheme the Lord and tear us to pieces.

"Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time." (finally) If the Lord has seen that there's no more reason to send His servants to speak with people, nor anything else He can do to persuade them to repent; then the time has run out, and we have to let God finish the matter. God has called us to be His ambassadors of peace until its no longer possible to make peace.

"Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time." (cont. 2) Now for the good and honest heart to live among the those who will have none of that, and are set in their hearts to live like there is no God, and no day coming to give account to Him; we must have an acceptance, however unhappy, that God Himself has to have regarding such; and know when to let them be.

"Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time." (cont.) The apparent indiscriminate casting of the seed into every kind of ground, may be seen by some as a waste of time; but it shows God's willingness for all to receive the love of the truth and be saved; and so too the fact that every one CAN indeed be a good and honest heart if they would; BUT THEY WON'T!
  • A disciple on Amos 5 - 8 years ago
"Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time." There comes a time when God ceases to speak to people. Some people's hearts are so beaten down past feeling by sinning, the Word cannot ever penetrate. Some refuse to do the work to prepare their heart for the Word to enter in a meaningful way. Some foolishly think they can be all in the world and like the world.

BSP; 21-24 cannot be taken out of the context of the whole word here: it wasn't just about sacrifices, but about an unregenerate unrepentant heart that still persists in its religious appearances (HYPOCRISY) while the inside is full of the pride and filth of the heathen. In Ezekiel God showed how He knows what's really in the innermost chambers of our minds and all the things men think are hidden.
  • BSP on Amos 5 - 9 years ago
Verses 21-24: God was concerned with their motive and not so much with their sacrifice. If we offer sacrifices to Jehovah God without the right motive or attitude, they will not be acceptable to him and he will not be pleased with them.

DarrellIBMs; You say the truth! Leviticus 19:29 "Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness." Psalm 12:8 "The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted." Amos 5:13 "Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time." May the Lord lead us in what we are to do and say.

It's so simple. Our Heavenly Father tells The house of Israel in Amos 5:4 "Seek me and live." Cannot get easier. Ma.6:33 Seek Him first... In ALL we do,it should revolve around Pour God. Our LORD. If so we live in him and He in us Amen.

V, 43 - " ... took up the tabernacle of Moloch. This is a reference to Solomon. He began right, but - he loved many women (which God did not sanction) and they led him into child sacrifice, 1 Kgs. 11:1. The 'star' of your god Remphan; Amos 5:26. The Jews still use this star.

"And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town." Amos 5:13 "Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time." Some suppose that Jesus did all His miracles for a show, and for advertising His power; ignoring the facts about the people whose hearts were hostile toward Him, that they weren't worthy to hear any more.

It is an important truth, many are not willing to understand; how that JESUS told many, after they were healed, Not to say anything to anyone; but they disobeyed and went out anyway, telling things to people they shouldn't have. Is there not a reason why the Lord hides himself from those who refuse to repent? "Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time." Amos 5:13

Luke 11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Daniel 2:22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. Amos 5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. Zephaniah 1:15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

The word of God is given for this day. The day of the Lord is not hiden from you .know that it is mercies and of love for you in this day of which God speaks. A sign is given and who has sought it out?

  • Brianna on Amos 5:15 - 11 years ago
Verse 14 showed that we need to search out what is Good. To understand what is good and acceptable, we need to study the Bible. Then this verse encourages us to Hate what is bad, and love what is good. It seems like more and more, things condemned in the bible is being presented as something "good ", and that the Bible 's viewpoint is being presented as something "bad ". Satan 's world is switching the roles of Good , and bad, bringing down the morality in people. So the previous verse is really important, because we need to search through God 's word to determine the good and the bad, and then make a stand for Jehovah God 's viewpoint.

Amos 5 is a warning to God 's people to turn their heart to him and not seek after idols there is only one true and living God and he is a just God who sits high and looks low checking and detecting the hearts of the people that is the reason for heaven and hell because of the hearts of people we are always looking for some form of gratified feelings instead of God way which is Jesus our redeemer the son of God who bore the sins of the world

Hi Jane Clifton. I think the point is we shouldn 't be worshipping false god 's, that might be done by having the wrong idea of who God really is or by giving praise to an image or symbol that simply couldn 't represent Him, for example. I personally wouldn 't want to associate myself with anyone who practices anything too dubious by looking or dressing in a way like them, but that said we should judge people based only on there outward appearance. It might help you to speak to a Church elder who you trust and to ask them there opinion and to continue with your Bible study as there is lots more on stars and God 's view of them and how women should dress. Hope this helps you. God bless!
