God's grace teaches us the knowledge of His will & we are to exercises it until we become more than conquerors through Him that loves us & continually gives Himself to us through His Spirit of Grace. This is putting Him on & what we receive from Christ is our inheritance in Him.
The simplest & purest definition of a Christian, is Christlikeness, to be like Jesus.
Its true we all come into this world as sinners, but it not true that we must remain sinners.
Jesus name declare His works, Matt 1:21 "saves them from their sin, not in their sins". Titus 2:14, "cleanse us all iniquity" for how else can we be Col 1:22 "present you holy, unblameable & unreproveable in His sight.

I agree with Gigi, The Apostles were told to go out to preach the gospel to the whole world and I believe the old economy "if that's the correct term to use" ended at the crucifixion when the veil was rent from top to bottom.
The timing of the beginning and ending of what God ordained in the old and in the new covenant was totally of God, "Not according to man's response to it"
The OT scripture said salvation would go out to the Gentiles by the seed which shall come. some expected it in the New Testament as seen in Luke 2:30-32. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people. A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

Jesus said in John 2:19-22 he would tare the temple down and build it again in 3 days.

What I been given by the Spirit, & Scriptures is that the OT is our example.
God was ready to bring Israel into possession of the promise land, then after their 40yrs of wandering, they enter & came into a measure of it, but they stalled again & did not drive out all of there enemies, through doubt & unbelief, Hebrews 10:19 & the pleasures & comforts 1John 2:16 as then so now!
You say "Definitely not the 2nd case" they're cleaned & are continuously being clean. There is a state of Grace in the work of redemption that as one continues faithful to God, minding His reproofs & instructions in righteousness growing unto maturity in Christ, Hebrews 12:7-11 Hebrews 10:21-23 in judgment God remembers mercy. Our Father is a good one, He sees & discerns the intents of our hearts toward Him.
For instances, when we're learning how to walk, there's many falls, but at some point the child learns, doesn't fall any more. The same with coming out of sin, He takes us step by step, line upon line, bringing us through stages of deliverance. If we can overcome one sin, & continue in the exercising of His Grace we can eventually overcome all sin. Like the children of Israel we becomes content, grown fat, thus their miserable history of continuing in sin & ours. Oh, we keep up the outward appearance & lip service, but the inward work of His living Presence has ceased & now it just a memory of what He had wrought in us from past experiences, Grace is Divine Power to continue. 1Thess 5:24

This liberty that you speak of in the NC, from the context of our previous conversation; your stated, to fully know & obey God's will, by the working of Holy Spirit in them, your stating this can be accomplish, now your being evasive in this statement also, Titus 2:7; Friend, your speaking out of both sides of your mouth here, James 1:8; James 3:11,12; this doesn't become godliness, truth in the inward parts & righteousness in either testament.

Forgive me for extracting that comment out of its context, but by that statement you are asserting a different Salvation plan for those saved in National Israel of the Old Testament from the Salvation of the New Testament. And the Salvation plan you are asserting is a Salvation based upon Works rather than Grace. And that CANNOT be. It is the snare that the Pharisees fell into.
We read in Hebrews and in particular Hebrews 10:1-4
1For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
All of the "ceremonial" aspects of the Law were given to National Israel as a PICTURE of the Nature of Salvation. And not as a MEANS to Salvation. They were types and shadows of the real SUBSTANCE of Salvation.
And that Salvation is the same Salvation that has "saved" every True Believer throughout time.
We MUST allow the Bible, The WHOLE Bible, to interpret itself.

John 17:17 involves Christ's prayer for us to be sanctified; and involves His Word and the truth. James 1:23 and 24 reminds us that we need to be "doers"; and he compares a man in front of a mirror forgetting what he looks like as an example. I am not sure of the context; but I would also quote the verse from Hebrews 10:25 in this posting. The first passage shows the danger of ignoring our own walk; possibly showing us how we forget what we say; or invoking a memory that we are still with a fallen nature; the second passage also shows how forgetting to do corporate worship can also make us forget the experience.
I state this fact first because I find that no matter how long I learn the scriptures; grow in wisdom and understanding; etc. that it is in the fellowship of the saints where I once again recognize God's presence; and witness anew those with different gifts.
The danger of being prideful as to our own continued growth; particularly when it comes to learning things from other believers is one important reason to continue in regular church attendance as well as; of course witnessing with fellow believers; small groups; corporate prayer; etc.
The fact is; that as long as we dwell in this mortal flesh; there is potential to fall into sin. This is one reason we need to be careful not to idolize someone who appears to be someone mature in the faith. On the other hand; it is imperative to have others such as Paul with Timothy or Christ with the Disciples for instruction and discipleship; as "iron sharpens iron" ( Prov. 27:17). Proverbs 27:6 states "faithful are the wounds of a friend." Surely this sort of relationship is rare and needed in the church today.
As a father with a child; instruction in righteousness should bring us to maturity in our own spiritual walk so that we can go out and make Disciples ourselves as Christ instructed ( Matt. 28:19-20). We need to get beyond "decisions" for Christ that way.

2 To make an end of sins (Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law). The verb in the Hebrew text translated as "put an end to" can mean "to seal up". The covering of our sins was accomplished on the cross at Calvary. When he said IT IS FINISHED, he provided us with the garments (wedding garments) to cover our sins. Psalm 32:1-2 Matthew 1:21 John 1:29 Romans 8:3 1 Corinthians 15:3 Hebrews 10:8-11 1 John 3:5 Revelation 16:15.
Is there still sin today? Yes. Will there still be sin and death after Jesus's second coming? Yes. Even during the 1000 years, there will be sin and death until all is made new Rev. 21:1-4 but through Jesus, they are covered and sealed, Rev. 16:15
3 To make reconciliation for iniquity (Reconciliation is an element of salvation that refers to the results of the atonement, iniquity is guilt, crookedness, perverseness, that which is not straight or upright, moral distortion, in the dark. Colossians 1:20-22 Isaiah 53:6 Isaiah 53:11 Ephesians 2:16 Titus 2:14 2 Corinthians 5:18-19.
The word reconcile means to bring back to a former state of harmony Jesus reconciled both Jew and Gentile unto God in one body by the cross and now through Jesus we both Jew and Gentile have access by one Spirit unto the Father no more strangers or foreigners but fellow citizens. Making reconciliation for iniquity concerns our involvement in the work of salvation.
4 To bring in everlasting righteousness. Everlasting, no end, righteousness, justice, mercy, loving-kindness, in conformity to the demands of the covenant and according to God's will, fair and balanced. Isaiah 61:10-11 2 Corinthians 5:21 Romans 3:21-26 Romans 5:17-21 1 Peter 2:24.

So what is the SIN that results in death.
James 2:7 Do they not blaspheme thy Holy NAME by which ye are called?

So what is SIN that leads to death? ....blasphemy of the Holy Ghost by whose NAME ye are CALLED.
Acts 2:38 .....REPENT (of your beliefs) and be baptised in the NAME of Jesus ......
John 16:9 Of SIN because the BELIEVE not on me (the promised SEED of God), the ROD that CAUSES man to do the WILL of God.
Man does't BELIEVE that Christ came as SINFUL FLESH (you and I and all creation): and DIED on the cross.
Three days later Christ ONLY arose; and all creation were joint heirs with Christ's resurrection, all creation bears the NAME of Christ, because they were made ONE with Christ, blaspheming that name leads to DEATH.
The whole world is DEAD in sin (UNBELIEF).

Instead what I'm looking for verses supporting people saying they were already saved (in the past) and already have salvation.
So far there seem to be dozens of verses supporting a future salvation and none supporting a past or present salvation before judgment, but only one which I just now found supporting a present salvation: Luke 19:9
Verses supporting Future salvation:
1. Phil 2:12 - "work out" salvation as if its a process and not a one moment event.
2. 1 cor 3:6-8 (conditional- "reward according to his own labour.") It doesn't say the reward came in advance before any labor was done or that labor was irrelevant.
3. 1 Cor 9:24-27 "run the race" to win the prize, not the 'race was already won' and you already have the prize.
4. Hebrews 10:26 "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,"
5. 1 Peter 1:13 "...hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;"
6. 1 Peter 1:5 - "...salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." If salvation was given now, why would it say its not given until the "last time"?
7. 2 Timothy 1:12 "For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." It says "keep" like a promise, like assurance of future salvation? It doesn't say Jesus already saved me and delivered the commitment.

If there are no verses saying we are immediately saved before we die and are judged, why do people assume that? If not in the Bible where did this belief originate?
The bulk of this discussion is focused on men who profess to believe as a Christian and who are seeking faith as a means to an end. This; in my opinion is far more insidious; and leads to greater judgment than the average pagan who overtly worship false gods. We have discussed Lot's wife; and of course in New Testament times we have warnings such as Hebrews 10:29 to seriously consider as well as the previous verse. We have more than the law now; we have the Bible; the written testimony of God with His redemptive plan for us.
Part of the problem; as I have pointed out a number of times is the concept of "decisional regeneration". We can follow the admonition of Romans 10:9 and attest to the veracity of John 3:16 and a few other basic verses on salvation for a number of reasons; but apart from a transformation through the Holy Spirit and God drawing a person toward repentance we are NOT saved. This concept is found in 5 scriptures as either granting or leading someone to repenetance (see 2 Tim. 2:25; Romans 2:4). Two types of sorrow are mentioned in 2 Corinthians 7:10; godly and worldly sorrow. The end result is either spiritual death or life. (compare Peter to Judas Iscariot after Gethsemene; and until His crucifixion for examples of these two types of sorrow). I would go farther though; some of us haven't even considered the consequences of our sins and how it would affect us at the end of this life; and Judgment Day. Fear of hell may not save someone without an appreciation for the Holiness of God and how we have offended our Creator; which comes in a large part after we are saved (experientially slow for some; immediate for others). But true repentance gives us some realization of our state apart from Christ along with a new heart ( Ezekiel 11:19-20).
I will say that in today's world; it is going to get very costly to even confess Christ; assuming; of course it is real church that we are declaring allegiance to
Sorry but I'm not wanting to turn what Gigi started a couple of years ago as a summary through the OT.
I'm emphasizing how God deals with them as a Nation as he do us today. ( With mercy for his name sake.) He will complete what he started! He's not a man where he lies or repent. This will be illustrated in Ch 23 vs 19 "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
The fact that God decided to continue his promises with the next generation "kids 20 years and below" and continue to carry them on eagles wings in the wilderness emphasis he's committed to carrying on with his promises and dealing with them as a Nation as part of his redemption plan.
That's the same kind of display of commitment and faithfulness he has for his Church.
We're a stiff neck people as well who has the spirit INSIDE US! so we should be encouraged by God not abandoning Israel.
We should consider
Hebrews 10:29-31. and
Romans 11:18-20.
I've read and studied Hebrews 11 and interpret those verses perhaps slightly different than you and don't care to get into that on this thread.
However I will leave you with this, How they are to pray.
Luke 11:2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. THY KINGDOM COME. Thy will be done, AS IN HEAVEN, SO IN EARTH.

You are right that the verb "hupomeno/omen, sing/plural" sometimes is written in the Bible having the meaning of "to endure or suffer or remain under tough conditions with patience, a patient endurance. Verses where that verb has that specific meaning are e.g. in Timothy 2:10, Timothy 2:12, but we can find the noun "hupomone" in verses like e.g. Luke 8:15, Rom 2:7, 5:3, 1 Thess 1:3, Hebr 10:36 etc where it has the meaning of patience. (If you wish I can give you all the verses in NT that contain that word). I think those two meanings are so closely related to one another so that sometimes it is not very obvious which meaning they actual have. One needs patience to endure/ to stay under tough conditions/tribulations. Otherwise what is the point of being patient if they enjoy themselves, nobody would say that they patiently have a nice time, would they? But in Hebrews 10:36 it has the meaning of patience. This is how I find it written in modern Greek Bibles.
About your question "What would be the consequences for a Jewish person for following Jesus?". I think they would be separated from the other Hebrews, not allowed to enter the synagoge, and suffer all kind of persecutions, even imprisonment and execution. We can read about that in Acts (Stephen) just before Paul was converted to Christianity. And we can read what Paul suffered by his own nation after he received Jesus as his Savior.

To make an end of sins.
To make an end; as put an end to/make an end to, affix a seal, to seal up, a document is rolled up and sealed with wet clay. The signet ring of the owner bears the image of his seal and is pressed into the clay. This is what was done by the Holy Spirit, 2 Cor. 1:22 Eph. 1:13 2 Tim. 2:19.
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. Sin reaches for things, such as safety, knowledge, peace, happiness, and pleasure. Nevertheless, behind the act of good, sin ultimately creates a confrontation between obedience and rebellion. If not in faith, it is sin.

This passage points toward the Messiah who died because of our sins. In Jesus's death, punishment for our sins is paid for. Jesus's death we are dead to sin. Walking in the Spirit meant that we are trusting in Christ by faith to be made right before God, and not trusting in the law.
Whenever Paul speaks about walking after the flesh, it is in the context of trying to be made right before God by the law, which is equivalent to self-righteousness. I believe the prophecy is fulfilled in Jesus Christ and if we are in Jesus Christ, it is fulfilled for us. Praise God that Jesus Christ made an end of sins! As Jesus said from the cross, "It is finished!"

I agree. From what I've learned, it is a compound Greek word, HUPO meaning under, and MENO meaning to dwell, to remain or to abide. MENO is found in many places throughout the NT and denotes a permanency of something or someone dwelling or abiding. In the case of the believer who has been born of God's Spirit, His Spirit permanently abides in the life of the believer.
I've been doing some research on the word HUPOMENO. The verse in question is Hebrews 10:36. The KJV says "For ye have need of patience." When I look at other English translations, some use the word patience while others say "For ye have need of endurance."
This causes me to question my own understanding of the word. When I said that it meant endurance, this comes from what I remember being taught by a Greek Professor whose ministry I sat under for some years. What he taught was not modern Greek but Koine Greek. I know there are differences between the two.
I'm questioning why some translations use the word patience while others use endurance? The NAS Exhaustive Concordance defines it as a remaining behind, a patient enduring. It also lists endurance, patient enduring, perseverance, and steadfastness. Thayer's Greek Lexicon gives the definition as: steadfastness, constancy, endurance, a patient, steadfast waiting for, a patient enduring, sustaining. Strong's Exhaustive Concordance defines it as endurance, constancy enduring, patience, patient continuance. The Greek Interlinear Bible says endurance.
As of now, I am going to stand by what I said. But I am going to do some more homework as to whether it should only say patience, endurance, or if either would be correct.
To rephrase my question, when Jesus was here, He had a large following of Jewish/Hebrew people. Many of them left Judaism to follow Him. What would be the consequences for a Jewish person for following Jesus? I've read accounts which help me to better understand some of the things written in the book of Hebrews.

I fully agree with that and that is why I said what I did about Verse 39. I used it in context with the four verses you shared.
Now as far as this word patience in Hebrews 10:36, I'm guessing that you already know that the word patience doesn't do that verse any justice.
The proper word is endurance, not patience. There is a difference if we take it from an English standpoint.
But why endurance? And why after we have done the will of God? And why would we need to endure after receiving the promise.
Endurance comes first. So how do we do the will of God? By remaining under our circumstances. Giannis, I believe you already know that the word used in Verse 36 is the word HUPOMENO and it doesn't mean patience. It means to endure or remain under. That's how we do the will of God, by remaining under our circumstances and trusting Him. That's endurance.
As far as Hebrews 10:26 is concerned, that verse has nothing to do with a saved person walking away from or losing salvation.
Now in Hebrews 10:29, where it says "wherewith he was sanctified," that word sanctified does not necessarily mean salvation. Yes, the word sanctified (HAGIOS) means to be set apart, and when we receive Christ, we are sanctified, or set apart for His purposes.
But if you are saying that sanctified means salvation, what do we do with 1 Corinthians 7:14, "For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy."
Please let me ask you this. Do you know what would happen to a Jewish person back in Jesus' day if they would receive Jesus as their Messiah?

Let's g back to those verses in Hebrews 10:36-39. "36For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. 37For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come and will not tarry. 38Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul"
Firstly I have to say that a verse on its own is often a teaching without any need to refer to any other verses, but also, often a verse has to be interpreted in accordance to the text of which it is a part of.
So, verse 36. Why do we need to have patience to receive the promise AFTER we have done the will of God? Which is the promise that is implied? Salvation, of course. But why after? Here it is not implied after being born, because it says that we need patience. Patience is needed for us to do the will of God in our lives and after we do it, which means that we complete our lives, then we get the promise (if we keep on God's way till the very end). Paul also tries to encourage believers by saying that the Lord will not tarry, delay. The ancient church was always living with the expectation of an early second coming of Jesus (church historians say that as time went by and Jesus hadn't come back then that expectation faded away and the church started going the world's way)
Then in verse 38 Paul says that we live by faith, but if a man draws back ... Where from does they draw back if they never believed? The proper answer is from that faith. But let's leave for now verse 39 and go to preceding verses 26-30.

Fourthly, the Ten Commandments were given to Israel & were binding upon them. Some of their objectives were:
a. to reveal the Holiness of the Eternal God to His people, Israel: Leviticus 19:2; Leviticus 20:7-8.

Realizing that, should cause us to cast ourselves upon a Merciful God for His Forgiveness. When Jesus came, He fulfilled the requirements of the Law completely and by His death fully paid the penalty for their breaking it ( Galatians 3:24; Romans 10:4). Therefore, by His Obedience, He was qualified to be the accepted Sacrifice for all mankind, for all of our sins ( Hebrews 10:10-12). If Jesus failed in fully keeping the Law, He would have been disqualified as a Savior - all mankind would be forever stuck in the quagmire of their sins & hell would be the destiny. But He was raised from the dead to show His Father's acceptance, our justification & deliverance ( Romans 4:23-25).
I hope you can see Ani, that even though there was nothing wrong with the Law, even keeping the Sabbath by Israel, anyone who puts themselves under the Law (i.e. to find forgiveness or acceptance by God by it), is doomed to fail. Our Rest - continual rest (Sabbath) is now found in Jesus & not in Law-keeping & we can only be subject now to the Holy Spirit who enables us to fulfil both the spirit of the Law & finding the true rest in Christ Jesus ( 2 Corinthians 3:6-9; Romans 8:1-4).

Then in Romans 4:1-8, Paul gives an example of Abraham who was justified before God (i.e. declared righteous) without him having to work to obtain that right standing before God. If Abraham had any goodness within him that could secure God's Approval, then he would have to pat himself on the back, for God would give him no credit (loosely translated from verse 2). But as Genesis 15:6 states, "And he (Abram) believed in the LORD; and he (God) counted it to him for righteousness".
So Paul uses these illustrations to show that our righteousness before God can only come by faith alone in Him and nothing else. That being the case, how "blessed" are those who are completely forgiven, sins cast aside, and we now stand before the Lord uncondemned. When the Lord does not "impute" sin to the one made righteous by faith, that sin which was removed can no longer be reckoned or charged to his 'account' (i.e. not imputed). This of course, does not give the saved sinner liberty to continue to sin knowing he is made righteous before God, but now being saved from sin's penalty & God's Judgement, he by the power of the Holy Spirit within will now live unto God, dealing swiftly with any sin that surfaces. As 2 Corinthians 5:15 states, "And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again." "...we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul" ( Hebrews 10:39).
We are indeed so blessed to be in this glorious position of being the beloved of God, accepted, uncondemned. Those thoughts should always be in the forefront of our hearts & minds when sin comes knocking at our door.
God made a covenant with the Israelites at Mt. Sinai which included promises and blessings, commandments and curses. The purpose of God's covenant was to distinguish these people from the people of surrounding nations. These were to be a holy people, sanctified by God, blessed by YHWH but also commanded to be obedient in order for Him to dwell among them. No other nation had been chosen by God to have His presence dwell in their midst. This is a unique act of God, consecrating the Israelites as His chosen holy nation. The covenant was God's expressed will for them, the basis for His blessings or discipline, the standard of holiness. Whether or not an act had great social significance, it had great spiritual significance. Sinning would defile the land and God's sanctuary with the people, thus causing Him to depart from them or drive them from the land promised. The stakes o this covenant were high. It is a most serious offense-a capital offense- to disregard and disdain the covenant of God. And this is true of both the Old Covenant and the new Covenant.
The capital offense of rejecting Jesus Christ leads to eternal death. So unbelievers are outside of the New Covenant and cursed.
Christians disdain and disrespect the New Covenant when they persist in sin. See Hebrews 10:26-31.

( Heb. 6:1, Eph. 1:4; 1 Pet.1:16; Rev. 22:11)
I would put a pitch in here for those searching to consider (after of course checking the validity) of online arranged marriages for Christians. That is a way to assure that we get to know the families ahead of time; and people are matched up with the wisdom of the temperments that the parents deem worthy for their daughters. It also avoids some of the silly dating and other situations that can lead to temptation; as well as getting down to business. It also is a good way to maintain Christian fellowship long term with families.
At least I can say with some confidence that it is better than many other "online" sites where people can photo shop their faces; or "reinvent" themselves to create whatever fantasy another may have to suit their purposes; or to find some way after a time to rip them off financially; etc. We also don't get a good idea of how valid someone's faith is in that way. Not to say that it can't work but I would take up my arranged marriage suggestion first before randomly looking for love on dating sites...
Of course what is well known by counsellors is that no one can "make you happy" if you are miserable within. only the Lord Jesus is transformative in the inner man; He is our confidence; our portion and our cup. ( Psalm 16:15; 1 John 5:14; Hebrews 10:35-36). Joy is a spiritual fruit and of course our faith in the Lord must take priority over everything and everyone. Psalm 37:3-4 asks us to TRUST in the Lord (take delight in Him) and He will give us the desires of our heart.
To find a partner we must trust that they will come alongside us in a time fitting with His plans. It should involve a help mate that will build us up as we fulfill the ministry or vocation He has called us in. I would venture to say normally we don't have to search at all but if we do it should be more like Genesis 24:1-10 when Abraham sent his servant out to find someone of his people for Isaac.
