I teaches us how to bridle out tongue and no one can tame it but GODlike the. I like the book of James.

i love reading the book of james ,it tells me something new each time .it reminds me to ask god for wisdom ,and to remember not to just hear but to do ,jesus is so wounderful ,he for gives us ,an never stops loving us

Patricia - I struggle with this verse also. Read verse 13 as well for better context. Then refer back to Psalm 34:19. and James 1:2-4 These verses are to encourage you in times of trouble - when we are doing all the right things, walking in righteousness and yet we still find outselves in adverse circumstances. God gets glory not from our affliction, but through our faith in Him to mould us, shape us, and conform us into the likeness of Christ through trying circumstances, and delivering us when we are perfected in this process.

I can remember when the good 'LORD' delivered me from so many things,but most important,I remember "HE' delivered me from me. What a blessing!I desired to be a good person,but I had no wisdom. At that time I didn't know how to use a computer, so I opened my BIBLE, and it opened to James,and I found the missing link in verse five. I began to seek the 'LORD' for wisdom, patience, and meekness. This brought me to a place called Faithfulness, and the wisdom of 'GOD' has humbled me.I found out that I was a good person all the time with bad habits, and made poor decisions save the "LORD" is YET critiquing me. It is very refreshing to read James chapter one. Be blessed in the 'LORD",and in the power of 'HIS' might.

James really speaks to me because it makes me aware of times i have strived to look like the perfect christian rather than making sure i am walking and living the perfect christian life. Not meaning i never sin but that i stay humble and recognize it and repent whole heartedly. I want to live a doers life not a hearers! im so glad that the Lord uses the Word to gently disipline me so i can stay on the straight and narrow!

The book of James is very true to Gods Word.

The doctrines/teachings Faith Alone = Salvation is a half truth doctrine. Because, even one verses in the bible you cannot read that through Faith our Soul can enter into the kingdom of heaven. Many verses in the bible that to enter into the kingdom of heaven is in your own works/individual works to follow the words of Jesus Christ. Old test. prophesy is in verses: Exeq. 14:14, 14:20, & Exeq. 18:27. New test. verses; James 1:21& 22, Acts 2:40, Fil. 2:12. In Mat. 7:21, faith alone cannot ride this verse because to enter into the kingdom of heaven is the one's who doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Faith and Good Works = Salvation to enter into heaven. Our heavenly Father will not judge to our faith to him. But our heavenly Father will judge to our works whether good or bad. Supporting verses: 2 Cor. 5:10, John 12:48 & Eccl. 12:14

i thank God in his promise that if anyone lack wisdom and he/she just ask God to pour out his wisdom without doubt,it shall be given more than we ask.. Glory to God in the highest!

It is a constant refrain tru-out scriptures that one's words, not only reveals their heart, but also their destination in life both here and hereafter. Vs 14, says " a man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth!" In Num. 13:30 Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said,"let us go up at once, and possess it for we are well able to overcome it!" And years later in Jos. 14:6-13 Caleb said to Joshua,"I brought Moses word again as it was in my HEART, but my brethren their words made the peoples heart melt, but i wholly followed the Lord my God." And at age 85, Caleb being strong and in good health, was blessed and recieved Hebron for an inheritance. But in vs. 13 says, " the wicked is snared by the transgression of his LIPS". And the 10 spys who spoke negative fear, their bones fell in the wilderness.
And in vs. 18- there is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword,; but the TONGUE of the wise is health. Jesus said, in MT.12:34," out of the abundance of the HEART the MOUTH speaketh". Paul said, in Rom. 10:8-10 "with the HEART man beliveth unto righeousness and with the MOUTH confession is made unto salvation."
Could it then be that the mess we are in, is just the fruit of our lips revealing a double minded heart? James 1:8 " a double minded man is unstable in all his ways". and in vs. 26 he states " if any seem to be religious and bridleth not his TONGUE, but decieves his own HEART."
I see now wisdom directs our HEARTS to confess "things of God" and not the fear of this world." I now see that i can't, in good consciousness, blame liberal, socialist political leaders, or any other person in this world, for that matter for any of my problems. I see all my problems reside between my two elbows and now i pray, God please unite my heart to fear your name ps.86:11 So that i may now offer praise and glorify God, knowing that as i order my CONVERSATION aright i shall see the salvation of my God, in my life both now and forever ps.50:23

At the concern over gender issues of wisdom crying and putting forth "HER" voice is a pronoun of relativity. As the church is relative to Jesus -" The Bride of Christ " but to the world the church is very masculine See Eph. 6:10 tru 17. You don't get any more masculine than putting on the whole armour of God and wrestling against powers and rulers of darkness. No sane intelligent person would ascribe that to be feminine.
But to consider Chosen Vessels comment posted 8/04/2010; I am constrained to say iv'e never heard such gobbledy gook! Jesus refered to the Holy Ghost as He over and over again in John chs. 14 tru 16. I believe it would be wisdom to agree with Jesus on this one and pray that Chosen would be delivered from confusion. To ascribe God the Father as( sub atomic darkness ), is not only unscriptural, but ignorance at best and perverting the Word of truth at worst. James 1:17 states He is the Father of Lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. There is not even a shadow much less darkness with Father God. And John states in 1 John 1:5 that God is light, and in him is NO DARKNESS!! sub-atomic or otherwise. Prov. ch 8 & vs.7 wisdom cries out "For my mouth shall speak truth" Jesus said,"I am the way, the truth, and the life." John 14:6 And no man cometh unto the Father but by me. We are not coming to (sub-atomic darkness) we are coming out of darkness into His wonderful light.A notable sign of wisdom is vs.7 "SPEAK TRUTH".

If you are saved through your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ reconcile Mat. 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. You cannot read even one verse that through faith your soul be saved. But many verses to save our soul is a work individually to obey the words of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faith and good works through his words equal salvation. Verses to prove that individual/your own work are the foll.: Exeq. 14:14, 14:20, Exeq. 18:27, Acts 2:40, Philip. 2:12 & James 1: 21-22.

V. 21, "touch not, taste not, handle not" is defined as being the commandments of men which show man made religion, rather than an O.T. injunction by God. The previous v. challenges us not to be subject to such ordinances. Established churches in my own religious community have many such binding rules to help guide their members. After (don't associate with the world) comes (no cars allowed). Since modern tractors and wagons might be used to go to worldly places, more rules were needed. (No rubber tires allowed). Now abusive jolting of equipment brought on homemade tractor wheels with rubber in the structure to absorb the shock. More church rules needed. (Not over a certain percentage of the wheel may be of rubber). Do you see how such man imposed rules perish with the useing. Even well-meant religious rules eventually require more regulation, and the victims are distracted from new life in Jesus to worldly religion. This whole chapter 2 is devoted to contrasting; the kingdom of our Lord against the falacy of well-meant religion. James 1:27 gives a very limited description of pure religion that is not defiled before God. Let's keep our eyes on Jesus.

The named of my God is Jesus Christ. This named was not brought by mother's Mary. Through his announcements/characteristics of what is God is to be watch of to believe. I don't think anyone should ask what a person THINKS about the word of God. PEOPLE can and WILL twist God's word. That's why there are "DENOMINATIONS" today. God's word says that it is of NO private interpretation(2Pe1:20), and that if ANY man LACKED wisdom let him ask of God( James 1:5). So unless they have REVELATION from God as to what Revelation 15:6 is about, they shouldn't be writing here.

We know we are all temporary here, so why not we prepared on that day to come. The word salvation in Eph. 2:8&9 is very broad. The meaning of salvation is someone is in bad condition/situation and then in turn became to a good condition/situation. There are many ways to receive salvation. For example in material things: salvation from hunger, salvation from accident & sickness. In Spiritual things, there are also many ways to receive salvation: 1) 1) 1Cor. 9:21-22- salvation to those who have no knowledge, continue to Rom. 10:3, 2) Eph. 2:8&9- salvation through faith. this kind of salvation is that our sins was saved. Ref. verses: Mat. 9:2 & Acts 10:43. This kind of faith is not a guarantee to enter into heaven. 3) James 1:21-22 - salvation of our soul. This is a guarantee to enter into heaven. If your soul is pure, perfect, holy & blameless. 4) Rom. 5:9 - salvation from the wrath of God, because this world will suffer various destruction. There are verses to support salvation of our Soul is individual/own works and not by faith where are many believers was deceived. Ref. verses: Acts 2:40, Philip. 2:12. 1Tim. 4:16 & James 1:21-22. Our God will judge to our works whether good or bad. Our God will not judge to our faith to Him. But God judge us is based in HIS words. To go to heaven/eternal life is very very difficult. God's wants us to be 100 % . This is His fair/just justice to all the believers who knows Him. ref. verses Eph. 5:27, Rev. 21:8 & Mat. 5:8. To enter this place one must be holy, be perfect, without spot of wickedness. Upon knowing His doctrines/requisites to enter into heaven you must practice/work and if you stumble down, rise up to continue, no retreat/surrender the faith that you have. For example in doing so, someone practices for holiness and then before he died he earned only 80%, but his goal is 100%. Only God knows if this one can enter into heaven or not. Not like to someone who has no goal/target to enter into heaven, because of unbelief. He think for him that there is no punishment, no heaven nor hell, so this kind of individual has no limit in doing bad works. There are verses that salvation of our Soul is individual/own salvation through His words. Supporting verses: Bh. 2:40, Philip. 2:12, 1Tim. 4:16 & James 1:21-22. The word soul is only a part of the human body ref. verse 1 Thessa. 5:23.

DOERS OF THE SCRIPTURE ARE NEEDED BIGTIME!

Come on now. You really need to read this carefully. SCRIPTURE IS PLAIN. SCRIPTURE IS THE ONLY WAY WE KNOW JESUS! MANY only go to church on sun-day because the catholics made them. They changed the calendar and PASSED IT DOWN AS MAN'S TRADITION. They DID NOT ADHERE TO SCRIPTURE, AND THEREBY FORGOT TO REMEMBER TO KEEP THE SABBATH DAY HOLY. THIS is not being said lightly. TRADITIONS CONTRADICT SCRIPTURE. WHEN THEY DO THEY MUST BE PUT DOWN IN FAVOR OF HOLY SCRIPTURE. IF not we don't have any faith in what the scripture says because FAITH COMETH BY HEARING AND HEARING BY THE WORD OF GOD! Those that changed sabbath to sunday have abandoned the faith that cometh by hearing that comes by the word of God. Go ahead study to show thyself approved and don't trust any man. Let EVERY MAN be A LIAR BUT LET GOD BE TRUE! HE IS TRUE IN HIS WORD!

Now, some may quote 2 Corinthians 3:6 "Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life."

But what is also TRUE THROUGH AND THROUGH IS THIS SCRIPTURE FROM JESUS HIMSELF THE FULFILLMENT OF THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS: " John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

What "letter" of the law is being spoken of here? Is it the letter of the law that is indicated in the following scripture? 2 Peter 1:20-21 "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." Is it the "letter" of the law that is being spoken of in this scripture? 2 Timothy 3:15-17 "And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

ALL SCRIPTURE includes old an new testament. Circumcision of the male organ is the judaizing factor which is ABSOLUTELY NOT NECESSARY unless it involves the "CIRCUMCISION OF THE HEART FROM AN EVIL HEART OF UNBELIEF."

Jesus said to keep His commandments! One of them is to remember to keep the sabbath day holy as a sign of Him as we await and prepare for His coming. the catholic church changed the calendar to sunday, the first day of the week and the catholics will boast and brag quite boldly that they did because of their IMMENSE POWER. So much is their boldness that they berate protestants who SAY they believe the bible first and foremost for their not keeping the SCRIPTURAL SABBATH. Catholics despise what they call sola scriptura and if they see waffling or weakness or inadherence to the scriptures by those that SAY they adhere to scripture first and foremost, they take every opportunity to impugn their RESOLVE, because they SAY and DO NOT DO!

JESUS IS THE FULFILLMENT OF THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS. The New Testament is NO REPLACWEMENT OF THE OLD. IT IS THE FULFILLMENT! Need proof! Here are some EXPLICIT references AS WRITTEN IN THE King James Bible, TRUE THROUGH AND THROUGH IN EVERY WORD!

Put away yuor tradition and take up the tradition of GOD ACCORDING TO HIS WORD. HIS WORD IS PLAINLY TRUE. IF you can read it, you can rely on it, even if you do not fully understand it. Ask and YE shall receive will take care of that part. Any lesser standard of belief in HIS HOLY WORD, is accepting the traditions of men and those are the "LETTERS" that "KILL" and those are what JESUS DECRIED AND BERATED THE PHARISEES ABOUT.

If you still insist the Sabbath, the token of JESUS CHRIST AND MESSIAH is not important or "JEWISH", since when have you as a believer in JESUS been CUT OUT OF THE OLIVE TREE'S ROOT AND FATNESS. You as a believer in JESUS ARE GRAFTED IN TO THE ROOT AND FATNESS THAT IS JESUS OUR KING. The Jews wre broken off for unbelief, and do you think you with unbelief will fare any better? Look it up. If it says "unto all your generations" or "perpetually" or "everlasting" etc. do we disregard that these words have EXTREMELY important meanings to ALL BELIEVERS? If you will keep the tradition of separation and GOD FORBID hatred of JEWS, YOU HAVE IGNORED the STORY OF RUTH AND THE WORDS OF THIS GENTILE MOABITESS HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN. LET THEM NEVER FALL FROM YOUR LIPS. "YOUR GOD SHALL BE MY GOD AND YOUR PEOPLE SHALL BE MY PEOPLE!"

STOP WITH THE TRADITION ALREADY! DO IT ACCORDING TO THE PLAIN WORD OF GOD, HIS WORDS ARE SPIRIT AND THEY ARE LIFE!!!!

hi ernest, Remember Jesus has become our rest. sabbath is rest/intermission in the greek/hebrew. all that matters is who we go to for our rest ( matt 11:28, Heb 4:2-11, 1 cor 5:6-8)
