I think death means without God, I'm not sure it means nonexistence. However, throughout other scriptures where our lives are like vapor or a mist, or that burning like chaffs of wheat, etc. indicate we do cease to exist. Hell is eternal. The gnashing of teeth, etc. may be because there are souls dying there constantly. I struggle with making sense of it, but I believe hell is eternal. Unless we are saved, we are forgotten without a memory left of us and we cease to exist after our judgment.

Well James Chapter 5 starts off with, woe! to the rich; for your riches corrupt you, then continues with; be patient you oppressed, for God knows exactly what he is doing, and why he's allowing you to go through for so long, and then James goes on to say; Pray for others, and be Heroes; one for another.

So this is my understanding of that: If we become rich; then it is now our responsibility, to provide for more strangers than we would like to. For Jesus said in Matt 25:35 " For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in": Showing that his will is; that the needy be taken care of by us; and riches make it hard for us to do that, because we only want to give up so much, that we stay in comfort, and luxury.
So the richer you are, the more riches you have to give up to the poor. And my understanding of what God is saying to the poor, and oppressed is: You are chosen, to be great, so endure the process, to becoming great. And last, to everyone: Seek after, and find faith, and afterward use it to deliver the sick, and bound..... BE YE HEROES SAINTS! This is the will of God.

In 1 Peter 3:9 it states that the Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. When you once repent having a sorrow and a contrite spirit for the sins that you have committed, then the Lord will give you an understanding of his word, once you have done first thing first. You have to study to show yourself approved, and you cannot get away from water baptism. In Ephesians 4:4, the word clearly states one lord, one faith, one baptism. If Jesus was baptized, then we surely need it; no other men than Jesus and John were born with the holy ghost.

I think God wants us to be open books to one another, because many times people's prayers are not being answered due to the fact that they haven’t confessed their Sins before they pray. This teaches us what you need to do before you pray. Confess then pray, not other way around.

On July 6, 2012 I was in a serious car accident that left me in a coma and on life support for 6 days. I was truly about to die, I suffered a Diffuse Axional Injury which is an injury to your brain. The Doctors told my parents they wouldn’t know the significance of my wellbeing or my deficiency until I wake up. My Dad in his obedience to God's word anointed my head the first night I laid on life support. I stand before you today in great shape. A recent MRI showed no scrapes and no bruising, my doctors are astonished and can not believe their eyes and it has been over 8 months since the accident and I will be returning back to work as a Geneva County Deputy Sheriff. How wonderful our God is. All we have to do is follow his word. Google my injury and you'll see the significance of it. I love you all and thank you Father Amen.

I think it means what it says in the King James Version. Changes made to God’s word will never change the truth. My faith is in Jesus (The Word).

Most main stream churches teach that the soul is immortal; that it cannot die. However, James 5:20 points out that the soul can be saved from death, otherwise it can and would die. Ezekiel 18:4 also teaches that the soul that sins will die.

Elias was a man subject to temptations. He was not so spiritual he was subject, i.e. he could be drawn away by lustful passions but he prayed and it did not rain. Because with faith, all things are possible.

I think that as Christians we are always running the race of fear which separates us from GOD and as a result, we end up putting a blame on JESUS. The question is, how do we conduct our ways, is GOD with us everywhere we go? Do we invite him in all that we want to do in our lives? The answer is NO. For the simple fact that we only need GOD when it suits us. It must come to an end that act of selfishness, I also include myself too, that I must play my part and change for good.
  • Jim on James 5:16 - 13 years ago
Faults are the root cause of sin. Dealing with faults (through confession and counseling) allows for objective steps to address the real issue(s). Conversely, confession of sins puts a "bandage" on deeper issues, and often is only subjective emotionalism (not a sin to cry about it). Romans 7:8 in dealing with the issue of sin, makes it clear our walk with Christ is the root issue, not the sin itself. Faults are related to certain failures in that walk. Sin is only a consequence of those failures. So confession, may make some feel better (for awhile), but until they deal with the root cause, repeated sin is likely and with that a defeated attitude.

God does not change, he is unwavering and unchangeable. David said in Psalms 119 Forever O' Lord is thy word settled in heaven. . . Amen! I like to read all the books that Paul was inspired to write because he doesn't hold back. In fact the bible itself is meat to our soul and the Bread of Life. Christians need to be aware that the devil is not our biggest enemy. Oh sure he is the prince of this world and when he comes, he comes to Steal, Kill and Destroy. He is our adversary no doubt, but our BIGGEST enemy is dealing with {self}. One needs to realize that the devil takes the opportunities that the flesh gives him and raise all kinds of hell upon this earth about your very existence. The devil and {self} are in liege with one another. This is why Paul tells us that we have to die daily. None of us is perfect, not one. And we never do anything to merit the grace of God anyway. We are saved by the Blood of Jesus and God said that his grace is sufficient. Can you say Amen!
  • Lynette on James 5:16 - 13 years ago
This scripture teaches me that when we are going through something, when we share it with a fellow believer, we are to confess our faults and pray for each other, and believe in FAITH that we will be healed. The prayers are those that pray with a sincere, faithful heart can and will move on the heart of God. These are prayers that matter. And when you fast and pray this shows God how sincere and passionate you are about that which you are praying for.

  • Nimal on Baruch 1:14 - 13 years ago
This verse in Baruch 1:14 confirms James 5:16 - Confession of our sins to one another and to God. When we sin we sin against two people. God and our brother (which is in the body of Christ) If we harm our brother and sin against him, confessing only to God without reconciling with our brother is of no use. That is why Jesus said, when you bring an offering to be offered in the Temple and you remember you have hurt your brother, keep your offering aside, first go to your brother, reconcile with him and then offer your gift. The prodigal son, before coming to the father, made up his mind to tell the father " my father I sin against God and you" He sinned not only against God but his father too. He asked for forgiveness from both God and his father. So confessing our sins to one another, as James advised, is important because when we sin we sin against our brother which is the body of Christ.

JAMES TELLS IT LIKE IT IS BY WARNING THE RICH OF THE COMING JUDGEMENT ON THEM FOR HOLDING BACK THE WAGES OF THOSE WHO HAVE WORKED FOR THEM, AND WHO HAVE BECOME RICH BECAUSE OF IT. GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT IS GREAT GAIN, BUT THOSE THAT WILL BE RICH FALL INTO TEMPTATION, AND A SNARE. THE RUST WILL BE A WITNESS AGAINST THEM IN THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT. WE HAVE NOT BE REDEEMED WITH PERISHABLE THINGS SUCH AS SILVER, AND GOLD. THE BLOOD OF JESUS IS WHAT SAVES US. WE ARE TO SEEK TO SAVE THOSE WHO ARE CAUGHT UP INTO SIN, AND WHEN WE DO THAT WE SAVE A SOUL FROM DEATH. JESUS IS COMING SOON, AND WE MUST HAVE THE PATIENCE OF JOB. WE SHOULD ALSO PRAY LIKE ELIAS FOR THOSE WHO ARE SICK, AND IN NEED OF A BLESSING FROM GOD. MAY THE LOVE OF GOD GIVE US THE POWER TO DO ALL OF THESE THINGS. OUR PRAYER IS WITH ALL THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING DISABILITIES AS I AM, BUT KNOW THAT THE GOSPEL IS NOT DISABLED.

"...and the rust of them shall be a witness against you..." ( James 5:3)

Hot short iron has sulfur in it. "The degree of hot shortness is in direct proportion to the amount of sulfur present." (Wikipedia - Iron Ore)

Sulfur is a contaminant in coal. "The effects of even small quanities of sulfur are immediate and serious."

"A piece of hot short iron will crack if worked with a hammer. When a piece of hot iron or steel cracks the exposed surface immediately oxidizes. This layer of oxide prevents the mending of the crack by welding. Large cracks cause the iron or steel to break up. Smaller cracks can cause the object to fail during use." (Wikipedia - Iron Ore)

Sin is a contaminant in our lives. Even a small amount can create a crack (breach) in our spirit and lives. This crack (breach) oxidizes (becomes rust). Satan seeks to get the advantage here. Sin has become a breach - a crack - rust immediately is present and there is a crack that cannot be mended by welding. A Christian can "crack under pressure." This shows a presence of sulfur in their lives. A crack develops; rust is seen. This can cause the vessel to crack further. It can cause the vessel to fail during use.

Any vessel can become a rusty vessel. The rust becoming a witness against them. Satan desires for us to become rusty vessels. He desires for sulfur to remain present in us so that under pressure we fail, cracks develop, rust is seen, breaches remain, and a weaker vessel is present.

Jesus desires for us to be a perfect vessel. He works to remove all sulfur (sin) in our lives so we become a perfected vessel. Obedience to the word of God and the Spirit of God makes us a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

Rust will develop if we allow sulfur to remain.

It's amazing that if you study God's word you can get the true meaning of this passage. I have read this passage many times and never got any convictions of using doctors, hospitals or medicine, Praise God! I am so thankful that although I was a sinner, that Jesus saved me and now I am a forgiven sinner and Jesus' blood will never loose it's power!

We do not trust God like we should, and the question is why not? For some its " how can i trust something that i do not see, but we will trust in what we do see. Jesus was doing great things and people were around him, but we can look deeper in his word. The woman with the blood problem, she was ready to give up then she heard about a man named Jesus. We must have faith in Jesus to get what we need first. The word can be so great in our lives, that we would love to read his word every day. God Bless you all.

the oil is a point of contact. its YOUR faith being release for GOD to "ACT" on your faith: ITS THE POWER OF GOD (THE ANOINTING POWER)TO BREAK THE YOKES OF BONDAGE, TO SET YOU FREE. SICKNESS, DIS-EASE, HE'S ALREADY DONE THIS FOR YOU. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS RECEIVE. AND TELL HIM " THANK YOU." ... REMIND HIM OF HIS WORD. AND AGAIN TELL HIM THANK YOU. HE CREATED YOU. HE CAN FIX YOU.! JUST TELL HIM THANK YOU.

Following what is written here, medication is against the will of God. and anything against the will of God is sin. While the Bible (THE WORD OF GOD) said that sinners will never enter the kingdom of God. So lets retrieve our ways and go to God in any situation we find ourself.
  • Paul Johnsonhe on James 5:14 - 15 years ago
For me, i think the oil is for the fulfillmen of the word of God. I wish every christian should practice this. The word of God said we should go to the elders for prayers not to hospital or any medical center. Here God is telling us to trust in Him
  • David on James 5:14 - 16 years ago
