Luke 15:24 - For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

One thing is clearly missing from the younger son's repentance and return to his father; and that is the popular but unscriptural idea of "accepting Jesus!" When he came to himself and saw his dreadful condition as it truly was; the result of his sins! He saw himself as unfit to even be called a son! He didn't say, O father, now I accept you! but, Father, I am not worthy, BUT PLEASE ACCEPT ME!

"I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance." The comparison between "one sinner that repents," and, "just persons who need no repentance," is not to say that there is a class of people who don't need to repent; but that holier than thou despising of others IS NOT THE ATTITUDE OF HEAVEN!

"And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends". Would to God we had sons like this today. Nor was I a son such as this one. I was the prodigal. How would this world be, if all sons were like this today? The prodigal son returned as well...

Pursue after Christ like the shepherd pursued after the one lost sheep.
Our life is not our own. It is God's.

Son of David; I like your kind and non-condemning way to look at it, but I think the younger son was rather looking for the party than a way to make his living. He squandered all his money on sin and selfishness, and brought disgrace to his father's name; and his repentance was marked by acknowledging the truth that he was not fit to be called anymore a son, and acceptance of his punishment.

The prodigal son did what everyone does. He goes off into the world seeking his fortune, his way in the world. For some find great wealth but it doesn't sustain them. Some fall between the cracks and are in want. It is they who are most likely to return to the Father and ask for forgiveness. And the Father will turn none away who ask. Those still in the world will not ask.

Verse 20: The merciful father of this parable represents our loving heavenly Father, Jehovah God. He is not only willing but he is eager to forgive repentant sinners.

Jesus has already forgiven us, even in the middle of our transgression. All we need to do is accept His forgiveness.

verse 20-Two points: The son was always a son before, during and after his departure. He didn't waste his being a son. He wasted his connection, benefit, relationship, enjoyment of being a son. He didn't return asking to be a son again. He was hungry. His hunger is what brought him home.
The main character in the story is the father.He ran to his son and welcomed him home before his son spoke

This chapter teaches us about repentance, forgiveness and love.

Many of us were indeed like the younger son, and some like the elder son. The younger son was very stupid and selfish, and his youth and inexperience cost him dearly in the sinful way he fell into. The older brother might have had an opportunity to go looking for his brother, instead of just being angry at him. The sinner is to be condemned, and that's what he does to himself when he repents.

What do we know about the father and son's name etc. in Luke 15: 11-21?

Many of us are prodigal sons striving to return to the warm embrace of Jesus and celebration in heaven of a returning lost soul. Thank Jesus for His forgiving spirit.

The lost sheep. Though one has the security if a flock yet will he leave all to search for what is missing. The same for the woman misplacing a coin. She will search for the lost coin even though what she has is adequate. The son didn't appreciate money but wasted it. All depict worldly life. It isn't enough. Who will love his life the world will lose it. Repent is to regret and change

My thought: When we as children of God fall from grace we must recognize that God hands is still stretch and He is still married to the backslider. There should never be an act of condemnation towards that backslider because God is the one who condemns. What we as saints should realize is when God is in control there is victory and where victory is there is power.

What a world: And the publican, standing far off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven,but smote upon his breast, saying,God be merciful to me a sinner. Luke 18:10-13.
In the Greek, publican is a tax collector.
Romans 3:10-11 as it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one:11: There is none that understanding, there is none that seeketh after God.

I love God no matter what✅😍😘

The parable of the prodigal son shows that God really cares about his children who lose their way. He is a loving Father who is just waiting for his children to return.

My thoughts is that the father is always looking for us. when we realise our wrongs and repent Jesus simply forgives us. its that simple amen.

to 'what a world' Lk.15 -- Rom.3:23 - why would being a tax collector exempt Levi/Matthew from being a sinner?

I don't think it meant a tax collector is a sin I think it meant that he was a sinner bc of the extra money that he was collecting was wrong to the people. That's my understanding...I hope that kinda answer ur question. If not, try asking a minister at your church. Hopefully they can't explain it better, bc this is just my thought. Take care...

This story is about God unfailing love for,we can ask forgiveness,and he is righteous to forgive us from all our sins.we must forgive ourselves.amen

I first learned about this chapter when I was 8 years old.

His father loved him and waited for him..but he was lost but now is found dead but alive now .

it shows the faithfulness of our father. that although we wonder away , he is willing to welcome us back.
