It is confusing, why did the lord commend the unjust servant? Does this mean the master thought that he was wise in falsifying his bills? Don't understand.
  • Andrea Brown on Luke 16 - 7 years ago
There is no time that the law and prophets stop speaking to us. They continue to speak to this day. According to Romans 12:4 whatsoever things were written afore time was written for our learning. That we through faith and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

I agree with Eutychu. After John, we are no longer controlled by the law. Jesus has been teaching this thru the gospels. When Jesus was crucified, God tore ths temple vail to show. Paul emphasizing the thru the book of Galations. We are now new creations controlled by the holy spirit.

The lake of fire is reserved for the devil and the antichrist first, and then all those whose names are not found written in the Book of Life at the Judgment Day ( Revelation 20).

  • Eutychus on John 5 - 8 years ago
"Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath," Yes, Jesus, who never sinned, broke the Sabbath. But WHEN he broke the Sabbath, it was no longer the law, "For all the prophets and the law prophesied UNTIL JOHN." Matt 11:13, and, "The law and the prophets WERE UNTIL JOHN"... Luke 16:16. The law spoke only until John the Baptist. No sin then, to break it.
  • Eutychus on John 1 - 8 years ago
John's writings are unmistakable. He writes in a "Universal" manner, seeing the whole of creation and our places in it. His burden was love, His Lord was Jesus. Would that could be said of us. John writes of John Baptist, who he calls a man sent from God. John the Baptist denied being Elijah, but Jesus said he was ( Matt 11:14). John was the living end of the law. Matt 11:13, Luke 16:16.

Okay; which Scriptures of the Prophets in particular, "No longer speak to us?" That is an error and ignorance of the eternal authority and purpose of ALL OF GOD'S WORDS! Things that are harder to understand we need to grow in grace and maturity for the Lord to show us, "as we are able to hear it." Paul said some things that seem to contradict what Jesus said, but the lack is in our understanding.
  • Eutychus - 8 years ago
Note, vs 9, "that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for" a whole range of sinners, of all stripes. The law and the prophets ceased to speak after John the Baptist. Matt 11:13, Luke 16:15, Romans 10:4, Gal 3:23-24, and finally, "And the law is NOT OF FAITH" Gal 3:12, coupled with Romans 14:23, "for whatsoever IS NOT OF FAITH IS SIN". Folks don't like it, but it is veritable truth...
  • Eutychus on Luke 16 - 8 years ago
Vs. 16."The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it." We can define the point in time, when the OT stopped speaking to us ( Heb 1:1-2). It was John. Matt 11:13 says, "For all the prophets and the law prophesied UNTIL JOHN". Since John, we have been spoken to by our Lord Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit, and the Word.

There is no repentance after death. After death, the judgement. It is wise, therefore, that we strive to earn a place in the Lord's Kingdom by being true to His divine will while here on earth.

What does it mean to " write eighty". Does it mean he paid eighty in which case he would be out of the rich mans debt and therefore reunited with him because he is no longer subservient to his debt. Is this possibly a statement that the manager has performed his intended task of reuniting the rich master and his debtors.

Unto Abraham, were given the 10 commandments. The law of God. Written by God's own hand in the plan of Salvation. He handed it to moses, and moses handed it to the people. The people who are us. The prophets told of God's ppl who will die because of ignorance. They told of a Messiah to save the world. But, We have put aside The Law of God. If only we could embrace The Law and keep the Faith of Jesus, then Salvation will sure come unto us.

I agree with Biblefan! The Holy Scriptures has a lot of symbols that God will discern to us, if we are not so quick to question a passage that "seems " like it contradicts another. I feel this has to do with our Spiritual life and that we have a choice to be filled with the HOLY SPIRIT or we can chose to ignore what it is saying to us, before it is too late ! once we have made that choice there 's no turning back repenting or being prayed out of eternity! Jesus wants us to serving Him now, because he cant help us once we go into eternity! So, none of God 's WORD disputes another...Pray for discernment of God 's WORD...

whether you are a good ,Bad or ugly person.you were created in the imagine of God like just like the angels. Angels can not ever die or completely be annihilated or not exist. So since the fallen Angels seperation from eternal god were kicked out of heaven, they must exist some were. So god made a place call hell for them. Always remember the real interpretation of the word hell means forever suffering My fiend Luke 16:23 is not an imaginery story, but of live events jesus talked about. Hell is not a metyphor or some curse word,it is a literal horrible place made for fallen angels SFEG not men. However, When men refuse to be born again or chose jesus as lord and savor from hell, he is all ready bond to go to to hell. Today is the day salvation for you and whosoever, because tomorrow, next week, month, or year could be last time before death seperatates you from time to eternity. Genesis 2:7 Death separates the body from the soul. Your soul is eternal and has to exist somewere forever like the fallen. Man will never not exist beyond the grave or you will always exist forever because of your soul. Matthew 10:28 Please!! do some follow up reseach on this matter and chose wisely. If you fail to go to heaven forever, hell is the alternative forever, because man was created to exist fovever. This is whats unique about the creation of man and angels vs. all the rest of creation of God, we the power of belief and choice. I hope to see you in heaven!!

Anyone preaching some kind of a second chance 19-31 after death is a great deceiver. Salvation is now, actually today. This means we need to die saved and living saved whether we are rich 'poor, educated, uneducated, health or sick with any kind of diseases. The other point is that there is nothing inherently evil in riches and something inescapably good in being poor. We are ALL saved and judged by our attitude today and now to Jesus Christ.

the unfaithful steward may actually be a picture of Jesus himself --- humanity in general could be the debtors and jesus the debt collector --- we are reconciled to god by paying some of what we owe knowing that we fall short of paying in full

ECCLESIASTES 10:19 COMMENTS 5 02 2015 4:10 AM Not because we do not need money, but we need in every day living only. In Luke 16:13 we cannot serve two masters. Temporal things is good, but the eternal things is the best. 2 Cor4:17-18 . Lord, thank you for the wealth is in you. A-men.
  • Lenora on Luke 16 - 11 years ago
This talks about a place to me that I surely would not want to end up, and those of us that want to be saved should take heed to this warning! Jesus is the only redeemer, only he can save us from torment and the only thing we have to do is ask him and follow him.
  • Bozki on Luke 16 - 11 years ago
On verses 1-12 is all about a Character that can be TRUSTED, As a citizens of the Kingdom of God We must possess this Trustworthy character, how can God trust us if others can trust us, if others can trust us how much more our Father in Heaven?, the context of this verses that Jesus want to teach us is that we can be TRUSTED by the Righteous and even the Unrighteous.......God Bless....
  • Insight 777 on Luke 16 - 11 years ago
Verse 8 is KEY to understanding this parable. Who are the children of light? They are the followers of Jesus. Jesus is the light of this world. John chapter one verses 4 and 9 explains this. So, the lord speaking here in verse 8 is NOT Jesus! Jesus does not praise the unjust! The Bible says Satan tries to deceive even the elect, One must recognize this when it occurs! Who would say cheating is wise? Remember HELL is an everlasting habitation! There are the followers of God and there are the followers of unrighteous mammon, one can not be both no matter how generous one is with the money. In this example money was stolen and given away so that the people receiving the stolen money might treat the thief as a friend and give him employment. Who would want to hire a thief except people that are unjust and want to steal themselves. In truth, accepting a false reduction in debt is stealing also. They were all thieves, children of darkness. And NO, they are not wiser than children of light! That is a lie and Satan is the father of the lie. Jesus gives the gift of Divine substance that enriches life, the substance of truth, fairness, equity, love, peace and everlasting life.
