I agree. It sure seems like Christians are eager to disobey Jesus and what He spoke in Matthew 28:19. Coming up with every possible rationalization to not follow Jesus's words while at the same time claiming to be a Jesus follower. God is the judge and sure He is big and powerful enough to make exceptions and allow anyone in paradise He wants, like the thief on a cross, maybe someone on their death bed who decides to follow Jesus. But why would someone whose goal is to follow Jesus work so hard to NOT follow Jesus? Ashamed? Embarrassed? Mark 8:38 Matthew 10:32-33 It seems like a Christian that just doesn't agree with THAT part of Christianity, but the rest of it? Seems like an enormous risk to take in my opinion, almost like a heart of pride and rebellion has something to do with this resistance.

Acts 2:38 - some silently add a "Do NOT..." in front of this verse. Could satan be involved in this? He sure likes deceiving Christians into doing the opposite of what Jesus tells them.

John 14:15 - Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments. Does someone who doesn't obey Jesus truly love Jesus then?

Hello Peggy. You could look up the following Scriptures on Jesus Christ's Deity (i.e. God's fullness found in Jesus ( Colossians 2:9) & in His Holy Spirit). Jesus' Deity is proved by:

a. His Names: Hebrews 1:8, John 20:28 (God); Matthew 16:16, Matthew 26:61-65 (the Son of God); Matthew 22:41-46 (Lord); Revelation 19:13 (Word of God); Revelation 19:16 (King of kings and Lord of lords).

b. His Characteristics: Matthew 28:18 (Omnipotence: all powerful); Luke 6:8, John 2:24,25, John 13:11 (Omniscience: all knowing); Matthew 18:20 (Omnipresence: present in any place); John 1:4 (Life); John 14:6 (Truth); Hebrews 13:8 (Immutability: unchanging); 1 Timothy 3:16, John 1:1-14 (God manifest in the flesh in Jesus).

c. His Works: John 1:3, Colossians 1:16 (creates); Colossians 1:17 (sustains); Luke 7:48,49 (forgives sin); John 11:41-44 (raises the dead); John 5:27 (judges); John 15:26 (sends the Holy Spirit).

d. His receiving Worship: Hebrews 1:6 (from angels); Revelation 5:11-13 (from other heavenly beings); Matthew 14:33 (from men); Philippians 2:10 (from all).

I hope you can see from these few Scriptures that Jesus was not just a special Man or Prophet sent by God, but truly was "God manifested in the flesh". No other man before Jesus' coming, during, or after His leaving this Earth, could ever fully reflect God's Glory, Wisdom & Power. Only God could - and He did this by sending us His Word, made Him a Man, so that He could give His Life as full payment for our sins - but only to those who believe this & place their trust in Him. To some, the 'Trinity' teaching is abominable. But man's salvation depends on the Divine Person of the Lord Jesus Christ - that God could accept no other Sacrifice to redeem & secure people to Himself - only by giving fully of Himself, which is true love for all.

Along with what Baker says, there are many places in the Scriptures that speak a name for God that reveals an aspect of His Being. Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 to baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. These are names of God, revealing Him as a Triune Being. So, Christians can call on the Father, or on the Son, Jesus, or on the Holy Spirit, We can call Him Adonai, El Shaddai, YHWH Jireh, etc. He hears us when we call on His name, whichever name best fits the purpose for us calling upon Him.

Every believer does not have the Holy Spirit in them when they believe. And, it's true that in Matthew 28:19 is exactly what Jesus said, for it is " IN THE NAME OF". And that name is Jesus Christ. Acts 2:38 is the New Testament salvation message. John 3:3-5 and Matthew 28:19 is fulfilled in Acts 2:38. Jesus gave Peter the keys to the kingdom in Matthew 16, therefore Peter did not speak in error when he said to repent & be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Just know that the gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Acts 2:38. The epistles from Romans- Jude are written to the Brethren, it is not written to the world. They are written to the people that came from the book of Acts. Go read the chapter. Again. This is where they are born of water & the Spirit. They are born again. The Spirit is a supernatural birth from above. The promise. The living water. First to the jew then to the gentile. All the people from Romans-Jude are saved. Period! However

Paul needed to correct many of them at times. There are many scriptures on water baptism. Yes, it very much is needed & Jesus spoke it in red letter words in John 3:3-5. Bible says to know God & obey the gospel. Not just know the gospel but we all must obey the gospel. When the people in the book of Acts obeyed Acts 2:38, they obeyed the gospel. Then in Acts 2:39, "It is the promise to you & to your children and to those that are afar off even as many as the Lord our shall call". Obey the gospel & therefore go forward into the epistles to learn & grow in the Lord. I spoke to the Lord these words: "Lord, everyone says they have the Holy Ghost (Spirit) but they dont. How will they know"? He spoke back & his words were, "will you tell them"? Now also, In Acts 19:2, "Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be a Holy Ghost ".

Get water baptized in Jesus name. It is the only saving name.

Acts 2:38, " Then Peter said unto them, Repent & be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, & ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost".

Remember that Jesus gave Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven earlier in Matthew 16, therefore Peter is not in error.

All through the book of Acts, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, never in titles.

Matthew 28:19 is fulfilled in Acts 2:38 as it also says "in the name of". Alleluia & amen

There are many "numbers" being toss about with no Biblical reference: 7000 being the elected Jews? Acts 2 was used, but only 3000 were saved and baptized v41. Later in the same chapter many were saved, however no exact number v47 "and the LORD added to the church daily such as should be saved."

A reference was made to Revelation 7, but even there John writes of the 144,000; 12,000 from each tribe.

I found from 1 Kings 19: 18: GOD reminds Elijah "...yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Ball, and every mouth which hath not kissed him."

Dear John.

I think that it is best for one to believe that Jesus in the eternal Son of God who became flesh for us. Believing that Jesus is God and equal to the Father and the Holy Spirit helps us to understand the Love of God, His plan of redemption, and his workings in history to redeem for Himself a people called by His name, which Jesus refers to in Matthew 28:19 when He told the disciples to baptize disciples in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

There is a phrase I heard while travelling: "Same, but Different"

This might explain the seemingly paradoxical relationship of the trinity or Godhead. Exactly how much the same are they and exactly how different are they? We don't know, we're only humans with limited capacity to comprehend this and no Earthly experience with this relationship. We only know what God's word says...

I think what is missing in all of this theological discussion is the personal role the Spirit of God plays with an individual believer.

1 Corinthians 3:16 states that we are the Temple of God now. Thus; as Colossians 2:9 states the "fullness of the Godhead bodily" showed how Christ was fully God and fully man; but also he had the "Spirit without measure". ( John 3:34). We as believers in the N.T. times since Christ's atonement go immediately to heaven after death (see Hebrews 9:27; 2 Cor. 5:8). We are "sealed with the Spirit" ( Eph. 1:13-14) from the moment we are saved (that is TRULY saved); hence the Spirit dwells in us (see John 14:23).

We can look at the Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost) as the pneuma in some extent; or what is breathed into us from above much as the soul of man had life given to it when we are born the first time. God therefore rules over all and determines times and seasons; Christ is the 2nd member of the "Godhead" hence in accordance with God's plan became the sin offering for our redemption and thus was "given" all authority over heaven and earth ( Matthew 28:18-20).

When He humbled Himself a man; he trusted totally in the Spirit to do His miracles as an example for us to do the same. Clearly; there were certain things which are at least primarily limited to the Apostolic era. Nonetheless; we are told to "bear fruits worthy (meet) of repentance ( Matt. 3:8 and elsewhere). There are characteristics of a Spirit filled life; and also various gifts or manifestations given by God to every believer (see 1 Cor. 12). PRIMARILY; the Spirit of Christ brings forth to convict the world of "sin; righteousness and judgment to come." ( John 16:8-11). We know we are one of His children if we have a new heart ( Ezekiel 36:26); and of course if we trust God; obey Him and obey Him to the best of our ability. We desire God and the Spirit will convict us (he chastises all He loves). ( Heb. 12:6 etc).

Hello Ellyn, you can read my response to Jacqui for some ideas that may help you understand Who the Father, Son, and Holy spirit are within the One Godhead. Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:29 that Christian baptism is to be done in the name of the Godhead: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He was speaking this revelation to His apostles before He ascended back up to heaven to sit at the right hand of God, the Father. These apostles were Jewish and Judaism and Israelites in the O.T. believed in One God, as God states in the "Shema" in Deuteronomy 6:4-5. These apostles would need Jesus' teaching and the that of the Holy Spirit to come to understand and believe that this One God of their Scriptures (O.T.) consists of Three Persons in One Being, with all three possess this One Divine Essence, yet are distinct from One Another. In this verse ( Matthew 28:19) Jesus reveals that this One LORD of the Shema is a reality of Three Persons in One God. So, when the apostles were taught this by Jesus and given understanding and faith to believe it by the Holy Spirit, they understood the Shema more truthfully than they had been taught about it from the rabbis. Hear, O Israel, the LORD (YHWH) our God, the LORD (duet. 6:4-5) YHWH) is one God here in Deuteronomy was teaching the Israelites that there is only one God, not many, like the pagans believed in the world with them. Jesus, in Matthew 20:19 teaches the Apostles and all believers that this ONE God is not many Gods (as the Shema teaches) but then three Persons in One Godhead.

Dear Sbongile, when I get to feeling like God is far from me, I remember that Jesus promised to be with us always. Matthew 28:20 "...lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." If you are a born-again Christian, God is with you whether you feel His presence or not.

The Bible teaches us not to go by feelings or sight, but by faith, 2 Corinthians 5:7 "(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)" Again, it doesn't matter whether we feel His presence or not, He has promised to be with us and He does not lie.

What is faith? Constant outlook of trust towards God.

Pray, read His WORD and study it in daily devotions and have faith.

Praise the LORD for all the comforting words of wisdom declared and shared on this forum. It is good to know that brethren exist and are active in every avenue of worship and praise unto the LORD JESUS CHRIST. The main thrust of Leviticus 5 is simply - no matter the sin; there is a remedy for it in the work of the LORD GOD JESUS CHRIST on the cross and HIS shed precious blood on the cross of Calvary.

It isn't enough that we refrain from actively denying JESUS CHRIST our LORD or lying about our relationship with Him. We must also take every opportunity to tell the truth about HIM and communicate the Gospel as we are told in Matthew 28: 18-20 "...making disciples..."

May we remember to pray for our civil, ecclesiastical, and education leaders on all levels "...that we may live a quiet and peaceable life in all goodliness and honesty." 1 Timothy 2: 1-5.

So it's obvious God is not testing a spirit filled vessel.

TRIBULATION.

This is mentioned in Daniel 12 where a specific time period is mentioned and Jesus confirms it in Matthew 24:15-21. This tribulation is to come upon the whole world. This is not the persecution ( By the world ) promised to the Church in Matthew 5:10 and other places.

There's a huge difference between persecution by the world and tribulation ( UPON ) the world.

Millennium.

Where does Christ thousand years reign here on earth fit in their theology?

My reason for asking is they are split in this view.

If you say the rapture comes after the tribulation and you use Matthew 24 to authenticate that, When is the thousand years reign of Christ here on earth?

Why would you rapture people out of the Millennium?

Some hold the view the Millennium has already begun and the Church will usher in the Millennium by preaching the Gospel.

They say there is no rapture.

This particular chapter brings to mind of our own peculiar circumstances now in 2022. No matter what we are going through, the LORD knows who each and every one of us are in HIM.

When we come out of it, as the children of Israel did come out of Egypt, we will be numerous and "spiritually" wealthy in then LORD JESUS CHRIST. I am encouraged to watch my LORD work on our behalf, as we carry out HIS commission. Matthew 28: 18-20; John 15:7,8; 1 John 5:14

The birth of the Apostles.

In Luke 6:13 we see that Jesus chose who he would name Apostles.

The question is when did the disciples start operating in the office of Apostles?

When was the foundation laid?

1 Corinthians 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

Are we capable of building with gold, silver and precious stone without the dwelling of the Holyspirit?

We do know in Matthew 28:16-17 even after Jesus resurrected the disciples still doubted.

"Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted."

In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus commissioned them to go out to all the world but not to depart from Jerusalem until they were filled with the Holyspirit.

Acts 1:4-5. Luke 24:49.

I believe not until they were filled with the Spirit that rock the church was built on begun. The disciples began to function in the office as Apostles.

Ephesians 4:10-12. He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

AND HE GAVE SOME, APOSTLES; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

He didn't do this until he ascended.

We are not speaking of baptism being required for salvation here. We are talking about obeying what is commanded of us by our Lord ( Matthew 28:19). Paul was baptized. He recalls being so in Acts 22:16. No where does it say that Paul no longer instructed new believers to be baptized. It just says that he did not baptize many in the community of Corinth ( 1 Corinthians 1:14-17) because there were divisions in this community with people pridefully boasting about who baptized them. Paul avoided entering into this mess by not baptizing in that community. But he does say he was sent to preach and not to baptize. This does not mean that believers were not baptized. They were, but not by Paul. Other elders or pastors did the baptizing after Paul's preaching.

But this does not have anything to do with Pamela's question. She is desiring to be baptized and no one should discourage her from doing so. Paul never discouraged anyone to be baptized and also he was baptized and instructed believers to follow his example as well as that of our Lord Jesus.

I have heard your viewpoint often here on this sight about Paul superseding Jesus instructions about baptism by claiming that Jesus was teaching only to Jews and Paul was teaching to Gentiles. I firmly disagree with this viewpoint as it is not explicitly taught in Scripture and has not been the practice of the Church throughout the centuries. It is a fairly new doctrine that grew out of the Pentecostal movement.

Jews and Gentiles are all one body in Jesus Christ and the teachings of Jesus are for Jews and Gentiles and the teachings of Paul are for Jews and Gentiles. Jesus Christ is not divided, as Paul says in the Corinthian passage. We need to not divide the ultimate revelation of God to humanity into one for the Jews and a different one for the Gentiles. I think that that is grave error.

Yep, both Jesus and Peter commanded for people to be water baptized. What is so hard about obeying even a request made of our Lord let alone a command? Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; 10:48. Even Paul says he was baptized by Ananias in Acts 22:16.

If Pamela desires to be baptized, then no one should discourage her. It was never discouraged for believers in the Bible.

A few verses before in 2 Peter 1:11 it says "Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." Do you believe Jesus is your Lord and Savior?

Olga, yes Acts 2:38 is correct. Matthew 28:19 does say "in the name of". That name is Jesus. Test we see not one person was water baptized in the book of Acts in titles. And in John 3:3-5 Jesus said water & the Spirit are needed to enter into the kingdom of God. So many don't even think water baptism is needed when it's clearly all thru the New Testament bible. I'm not able to follow your thought process on all your points, but some. I think most of your points fall within the same logic/belief that Jesus prayed and referred to the Father as "God" and even prayed to "God" therefore how can Jesus be God and pray to Himself? Am I understanding your position accurately? If so, I think most of your "If Jesus is God..." arguments seem to fall within this one overall assumption.

The thing missing from this assumption is that Jesus is not in His normal state. He became a man to go to earth to live as us and to die for our sins. John 1. Yes, Jesus prayed to God the Father. I believe He limited His power to a degree to live on Earth like us. I think He could have exercised His power, but chose not to. Example: Matthew 26:53.

Philippians 2:6 - this says Jesus is equal to God. Verse 7-8 says he humbled Himself as a servant as a man. v9-11 then Jesus was exalted, that every knee will bow and confess Jesus is Lord, name above all other names.

If you believe the Bible when it says that says Jesus created all things ( John 1:3 ), is equal to God ( phil 2:6), is one with God ( John 10:30), is God ( John 1:1), has a name above all other names ( Phil 2:9-11), should be baptized in His name ( Matthew 28:19) then is it such a stretch to believe that's true?

Simply believing what the Bible says is not a 'doctrine' as some claim, but those believing things the Bible doesn't say is definitely a human doctrine.

I get that people have a hard time comprehending that God is plural and how exactly that words out. We will find out in the end. But just because people don't understand 1 John 5:7 doesn't mean it's not true. Truth is true regardless of whether people choose to believe it or not.

John 8:58 - What do you think Jesus meant when he said "I am"?

Exodus 3:14 - What do you think of God saying "I am"?

John 5:23 - strong warning to anyone who dishonors Jesus.
