how to know the voice of God?
  • The Bible Alone - In Reply - 10 months ago
    Hello Reedm9974,

That is a very good question. And of great importance in our Day when many people want some message from God in a sign or a wonder.

The only place we will "hear" the voice of God in the Bible itself. When we read or listen to the Bible we are sitting at the feet of God Himself as He speaks to us. We should never be looking for an audible voice or a dream or a vision or a tongue as being the articulated Word of God.

Once God completed writing the Bible in its original languages, God ceased speaking directly to mankind outside of the Bible itself. He made this crystal clear in Revelation 22:18-19

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book.

My advice to you and anyone is: Read the Bible, Read the Bible, Read, the Bible. That is God speaking directly to you.

    May God richly bless you.

Hello Reedm9974. As His children, God speaks to us in various ways. Some might even claim to have heard an audible voice, but that has not been my experience. Maybe you are seeking a Word from God about a need you have. What I can say is that if you truly know the LORD God and His Son Jesus Christ as your Savior, are careful in your life before Him and earnestly seeking His Word for you, then the LORD will make Himself known to you in a way He chooses. But it may not come audibly, but in another way, such as giving you an inner peace about a matter, a strong sense of taking a particular path to your goal, a persistent pressure upon you to take some action, a Word to give to someone or even for yourself to strengthen you in a difficult time, or even causing you to divert from possible danger. God, through His Spirit in us, can & will speak to us.

A few personal examples. Years ago, a young Christian girl was having some serious problems with her Mother and was heartbroken and agitated. For no apparent reason, I rang her and shared what God placed upon my heart. Unbeknown to me, five minutes later, an older sister from the Fellowship rang her and shared a Word from God with her. She was greatly comforted by this mysterious timing & similar words and knew that she was not alone - that God was ministering to her & had the matter in His control.

While in prayer and waiting on the Lord for direction to serve overseas, His Word came to me, not audibly but a definite pressure on my heart to prepare to go and with a named Mission group. This story is long, but the short of it, was the Lord confirmed His calling by selling my home without my even advertising it and not paying anything towards the sale & giving me more than I expected.

When in serious trouble in Pakistan for sharing the Gospel. Humanly, I had the option to resist & run, but the Holy Spirit instantly gave me peace and His Word ( Proverbs 15:1); my opponent withdrew. Yes, God does still speak to us today.

Hi dear "Reedm9974" This is an interesting question, which will probably give more answers here on the web besides mine. Or at least I hope so. Answer: When the Lord speaks, you can't help but hear it! If He wants something from you, He speaks clearly. He never speaks in a nightcap. But actually He speaks from His Word to us daily if we read the Bible every day. Not because He always has time and gives people a little extra attention. He really do. The reader whether he will take the Lord at His Word or be a forgetful reader, forgetful Hearer it says. But as we read and get light on what it is about. Then you have received something from the Lord. Remember that you want to hear the voice of the Lord and not trust every voice that comes your way. Those voices are not always from the good side. Such are the ones who will deceive you into believing that they are from the Lord. That is why we have the Word of the Lord from the Bible to give us clarity. Good luck with your listening. Stay close to His word, and be safe in Jesus name, Amen. Love u

    Eph 5:8-14
