The only thing we can add to Salvation is our sin , and obedience to the truth , that leads us into repentance and God must draw us to Jesus and enable us to repent and have faith in Jesus through the word of God . John the Baptist said no man can receive anything except God give it . Therefore we are at Gods mercy and the only thing we can do is humble ourselves perhaps God will have mercy on us . A good verse of encouragement for a repentant sinner is Psalm 51 v The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit : a broken and contrite heart , OGod thou wilt not despise . ( king David )
