It is true what you say that "One verse does not make a doctrine," and yet there is a certain group where a majority of their teachings and doctrine center on one single verse ( Acts 2:38).

The epistles were written to the people that came from the book of Acts. They were the people that were water baptized in Jesus name & received the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38 is the gospel. It is the New Testament salvation message.

Therefore Ephesians 1:13-14 is not written to the world, nor to the sinner UNTIL YOU HAVE OBEYED THE GOSPEL MESSAGE. It is written to the saints that obeyed this gospel.

We must first read the 4 gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke & John then read the entire book of Acts. Acts is where the church was born.

So many people say they have the Holy Ghost & they do not. So many people think they are saved & sadly, they are not. Who is teaching you? Who are you listening to?

The epistles from Romans thru Jude are to be followed once you have obeyed the salvation Acts 2:38.

You do not receive the Holy Ghost once you believe. It took me close to 3 years to receive the Holy Ghost & with the utterance.

Acts 19, "He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost".

Do not jump into the epistles until you have read the beginning of each chapter. The epistles {letters} are written to the born again churches. Written to the saints. They obeyed the gospel which is the death, burial & resurrection of Jesus Christ.

For example many people preach John 3:16, however you must read the very beginning of John 3 before John 3:16. One verse does not make a doctrine.

Pray that we will not be deceived. False doctrine is out there.

Pray for discernment.

Psalm 139:8 makes it clear that everywhere; including hell God's presence is there. God; however depending on the state of an individual our soul has a different experience. With David; in old times sheol was the place of comfort as well as torment (see Luke 16:19-31). After captivity was made cptive (i.e. souls of the righteous were brought out after the Resurrection ( Psalm 68:18) then "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord ( 2 Cor. 5:6). Therefore; we saw some of the saints come out of their graves after Christ's Resurrection (sort of the "first of the firstfruits").

God cannot look onto sin ( Matt. 27:45-46). Christ was the "sin bearer" who took on our sins (see Isaiah 53; Numbers 21:8). This explains the Godhead in some sense; as if all of the Godhead died at the crucifixion the whole universe would cease to exist. Jesus; however overcame death as it could not hold Him ( Acts 2:24). When He said "it is finished" and died then the work was done ( John 19:30). The rest of the time He was declaring victory to all (including unregenerate lost souls and demons bound in the underworld) in 1 Peter 3:18-20 then He ascended back to the Father where He ever lives to intercede for us ( Heb. 7:25).

It is clear that every eye shall see Him ( Rev. 1:7); Rev. 5:13; Rev. 20 and Great White Throne Judgment). Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord ( Philippians 2:10-11 and also reflected in Isaiah 45:23. During the Tribulation men also will be actively cursing God and Antichrist Himself will blaspheme Him as well as those who dwell in heaven ( Rev. 6:15; Revelation 13). It is clear that everyone will know about God and Christ by the sixth seal but it won't do those any good who have not been regenerated. It is only in those God chooses to reveal Himself through the Son that come to know Him ( Matt. 11:27 and see much of Gospel of John including some of my commentaries on Predestination). Also see Psalm 19; ROmans 1

Matthew 28:19 is true but we must read the words "IN THE NAME OF". That name is Jesus.

Just like Acts 2:38 speaks on. Amen

In the book of Acts is where they were born again. Jesus said water & Spirit. They were baptized in the name Of Jesus Christ and received the holy Ghost. Therefore Acts 2:38.

That is the gospel to be obeyed.

Matthew 28:19 & John 3:3-5 is fulfilled in Acts 2:38.

The epistles from Romans- Jude was not written to the world, not written to the sinner. It is written to the brethren.

Jesus is the same yesterday; today and forever. That could be said of the entire Godhead.

Christ has the fullness of the Godhead bodily dwelling within as said in Colossians 2:9. The Spirit was in Him without measure ( John 3:34) and whoever has seen Him has seen the Father ( John 14:9). Nonetheless there is certainly a destinction in terms of roles with Christ being the sin bearer and the Father turning away when He bore our sins at Calvary ( Psalm 22:1). God cannot dwell in unrighteousness; and for that moment it was God's will for Jesus to be crushed ( Isaiah 53:5).

The Holy Spirit isn't given any distinctive appearance except in the beginning of the Gospels ( Luke 3:22 for example appearing like a dove); and with cloven tongues of fire at Pentecost ( Acts 2:3).

Revelation 3:21 indicates Christ overcoming all things; death could not hold Him ( Acts 2:24).

In some sense whether in the Preincarnate form or since His Resurrection He is both in the form of a man (the Man who is the second Adam as it were) who still bears the marks on His body being the first of the Firstfruits resurrected from the dead ( 1 Cor. 15:23) and of course beyond time as the Creator of all things ( Jn. 1:3 and several other verses) fully God. So there is distinction and unity with the "Trinity" as it were. When looking at His glory; we see the fullness of sight and sound (with mighty thunderings with His voice ( Ezekiel 3:12-13; and verses in Revelation; Psalms etc.) We should be aware as believers of our sinfulness (as the Spirit indicates in John 16:8) and we tremble at His presence. This is different than the reaction of the wicked who sense their destruction and love their sin more than God ( John 3:19). Nonetheless it seems that there are "revelations and visions" abounding; but few seem to describe that Holy fear of God of which is the beginning of understanding ( Psalm 111:10). Compare this with much music and preaching today that presents a sappy God without other attributes.

I would like to draw attention to the meal offering Leviticus 23:17. Here we have the only place the two loaves is offered with LEAVENED bread. (Not Unleavened)

"Ye shall bring out of your habitations TWO wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; THEY SHALL BE BAKED WITH LEAVEN; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD."

Why is this important?

The two leavened loaves represent the two groups (Jews and Gentiles) out of which the Church is formed.

The message spread to both Jews and Gentiles (the two leavened loaves of bread), extending the harvest to us.

It prophesizes what is to be fulfilled on Pentecost.

This is what Luke is saying in Acts 2:1 "And (when the day of Pentecost was fully come,) they were all with one accord in one place. " When the day of Pentecost was fully come, means the fulfillment of that which was given in Leviticus.

Verse 16 of Leviticus says "Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.".. The new meal offering is the Church.

There are those who believe the Leaven mentioned here in verse 17 represents the Gentiles.

And there are those who believe the leaven is prophesized to be the false doctrine are the tares.

Why is it that people do not read the beginning of the chapter 3 and obey what Jesus said? John 3:16 is true but we must read the beginning first. Especially John 3:3-7.

Sorry, but water baptism IS most certainly in the new testament. It is about water baptism AND being spirit filled w the Holy Ghost, as we live a holy life for Christ with love.

Acts 2:38-39

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."

The promise is for all children of God. We are the "afar off". Have you received the gift?

Was Peter preaching the same gospel in Acts 2 & 3?

Yes! Peter was preaching the gospel of God's grace to the Jews and the many that had come from other nations to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. Was it tailored to those that where there because of what they had just done in crucifying Jesus? Of course. But it is still the one same gospel. He didn't mention the blood of Christ but he certainly spoke powerfully about the death and resurrection of the Lord, and their need to repent and receive forgiveness from God. ( Acts 2:22-38) It is true that God revealed other 'mysteries' through Paul later (as Acts 2 is only 50 days on from the resurrection of the Lord) but this is simply bringing focus and revelation to the one true gospel. It isn't changing to a new gospel.

The church began in Acts 2 - at Pentecost. This is when believers were baptised in the Holy Spirit into one body. And though the Church began in Jerusalem, the commission to go into all the nations had already been given by the Lord Jesus to all the disciples even before this point. See Mt. 28:16-20; Mk. 16:14-16; Lk. 24:45-49. So later when Paul and others went to the Gentiles, they were simply doing what Jesus had already said to do when He was with the disciples on earth. It isn't something new.

"A part of this was surely that the blood, as symbolized in the wine (of which some drank too much, vs. 21), was disregarded and profaned.

Not only is misconduct at the Lord's Table profaning the blood of Christ, but also absence from the Lord's Table. There are many who view communion as a ritual best to be endured, and then only occasionally. The New Testament saints remembered the Lord daily ( Acts 2:42-46), and later it was weekly ( Acts 20:7; 1 Cor.11:2 cf. 16:2). Those who consistently failed to commemorate the Lord's death not only disobeyed the command of the Lord ( Lk. 22:19-20) but they profane the blood He shed by valuing it so little that they fail to commemorate His death as He has instructed us. ....

There is essentially but one way in which non-Christians profane the blood of Jesus Christ, and that is esteeming it of so little worth that they seek acceptance with God on the basis of their own works, in place of the atonement, in which Christ shed His own blood. Imagine standing before the judgment seat of God (the Great White Throne) and having God ask you but one question, the answer to which determines whether you spend eternity in heaven or in hell. The question, I assure you, will be this, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THE BLOOD OF MY SON?"

God cares nothing for what you have to offer, but only what He Himself has offered you, His only begotten Son: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." ( Jn. 3:16). How dare any man think he could offer God anything for his own redemption, when God has paid the price in full at the cost of the blood of His own Son."

I just thought that this portion of this article was so well said and worth consideration.

I think of when a believer shows acceptance of non-christian by Jesus without conversion. More ideas?

This is to no one in particular:

Indeed 1st Corinthians 15:1-4 is the written gospel. You read it but NOW it is up to everyone to obey the gospel which is what Jesus spoke in John 3:3-5. Also Matthew 28:19 is fulfilled bc it is in the name of. No one was ever water baptized in the book of Acts by father, son, & Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 is the New Testament salvation message. Water baptism remits your sins. Matthew 26:28 says the same.

We need the Holy Ghost power. Lo & behold, not everyone has the Holy Spirit just bc they believe.That's just not true. Ppl must stop making a doctrine from one verse. For ex: John 3:16 is true, however we must all start at the beginning of the chapter. And there we find what Jesus Christ spoke on in John 3:3-5, for without it we can not enter into the kingdom of heaven. All the ppl in the book of Acts were told to repent & be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Romans 10:9 is an example---call on the name of the Lord. Read Matthew 26:28, Jesus spoke, "For this is my blood of the New testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins". Hallelujah & Amen

I agree. It sure seems like Christians are eager to disobey Jesus and what He spoke in Matthew 28:19. Coming up with every possible rationalization to not follow Jesus's words while at the same time claiming to be a Jesus follower. God is the judge and sure He is big and powerful enough to make exceptions and allow anyone in paradise He wants, like the thief on a cross, maybe someone on their death bed who decides to follow Jesus. But why would someone whose goal is to follow Jesus work so hard to NOT follow Jesus? Ashamed? Embarrassed? Mark 8:38 Matthew 10:32-33 It seems like a Christian that just doesn't agree with THAT part of Christianity, but the rest of it? Seems like an enormous risk to take in my opinion, almost like a heart of pride and rebellion has something to do with this resistance.

Acts 2:38 - some silently add a "Do NOT..." in front of this verse. Could satan be involved in this? He sure likes deceiving Christians into doing the opposite of what Jesus tells them.

John 14:15 - Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments. Does someone who doesn't obey Jesus truly love Jesus then?

Jesus told them the only sign would be as Jonah, 3 days and 3 nights, but He confirmed the brass serpent was a foreshadowing as in John 3:14 and when He told them "When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he", John 8:28. My understanding and something to consider is it points to Matthew 27:50-54 when Jesus cried out the last time is when all these things happened.

The veil of the temple was rent, and the earthquake, and the rocks rent, and the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. The Greek word egersis, translated as resurrection here, is the only place in the NT it was used.

It means waking up, as from sleep, a rousing or rising up from passing out that I am sure Jesus did several times, but this last time when He cried out just before He died, all these things happened to show they have just killed the Messiah, the Son of God as verse 54 confirms all this happened when Jesus revived and cried out.

Death could not hold Jesus because He was without sin, Acts 2:24 and when God resurrected Jesus Jesus was victorious over death and is the Firstfruits of those that slept. We were slaves/servants of sin, in captivity, Jesus broke the bounds and led the captivity of sin, Rom. 6:6, and took us captive to Himself, Eph 4:8. He freed us from that enslavement or captivity to sin and when we are resurrected, we can say 1 Cor. 15:52-57.

In John 3:13, John wrote this after Jesus ascended, we see that for what John said Jesus was in heaven when John wrote this. Also, we see what Paul wrote, David has not ascended to heaven, Acts 2:29, 34, you would think if Jesus took people to heaven, He would have taken David.

Often we speak of a revival, sometimes revival seems it is what the church needs rather than the nation. The nation is doing what nations do.

The church is set apart and is to be light to ALL the world/nations.

Here's what I observed, Some seems to minister to draw people to themselves.

They are thinking they are that light and rightfully so. But what is you/light supposed to shine on? Who's in the midst of the candlesticks? Jesus!

Today we see people "But not everyone" shine light upon themselves. ( Notice I didn't say "the light.)

Is that an oil filled light?

Can there be a revival in this way?

I'm sure we can agree on this matter, The question is "DO I DO THIS?" We should ask ourselves.

Here is also what we should ask ourselves.

Does this glorify the Lord?

Am I doing this by the Spirit of God or the lust of the flesh?

Is it the Lords glory I am seeking?

Is this moved by the Spirit?

If Gods spirit resides in you you should know!

Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. John 12:31-32.

HOW DOES THE WORLD SEE US?

Certainly Leaven and the tares plays a role.

When the world look at us from the outside they see some of their own.

Pride by the work of their own hands.

Materialism.

Racism.

Ect.ect.

We also get along worse than them considering we are supposed to be led by the Spirit.

This is why everything we do should be what is (caused) by the Holyspirit.

If I might add my thoughts to your questions to Baker.

In Acts 2:1, "when the day of Pentecost was fully come", we find that the apostles had planned to be together in "one place". We don't find them bringing in their wheat harvest as required in celebration of Shavuot, or even participating in any celebrations pertaining to it, but rather, in waiting together on the appointed day for the coming of the Holy Spirit as Jesus instructed them ( Luke 24:49). So, the mention of them being together on Pentecost, simply meant that that was the day so appointed for them to gather (50 days after Passover).

Acts 10:11-15. It would take time & probably several lessons to completely extract the demands of the Old Covenant from the apostles & those of the Jews who had come to faith in Christ. But the vision that Peter saw & interpreted to him by Jesus, was not confined to clean & unclean foods, but to what the Jews regarded as anyone outside Jewry to be unclean ( Acts 10:28; Galatians 2:11-17). These were no doubt difficult lessons to learn, as things that are not of faith in Christ are removed from our minds & hearts. I know that I had to re-learn & deal with several issues after leaving the old life behind in 1979.

The Commandments. There's a difference in keeping the Commandments & keeping the Commandments to save us. Colossians 2:14, "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross". I understand that when the 'handwriting of ordinances' were removed & nailed, it didn't make God's Law obsolete & irrelevant; rather, the Law that once revealed to man his sin & condemned him without giving him a plan of escape, was finally nailed to the Cross where Jesus' Sacrifice now brought Mercy & Salvation. Since the Cross, we are to obey every commandment (& many more by the ministry & help of the Holy Spirit) - but those commands that are relevant for those found in Christ.

Romans is written to The Romans. Why does Paul say that his brethren according to the flesh are Israelites, if The Gentiles that he is writing to are also not Israelites ?

Furthermore, all of The Epistles that Paul wrote were written to strangers that were scattered in those particular areas. For example, Rome, Ephesus, Thessalonicca, Corinth. Those were the same areas where The Israelites were scattered.

Acts 2:5 states that there were Jews out of every nation under heaven. Once again, why would Paul write to non Israelites and then say that all Israel shall be saved if The Epistle is directed towards the actual Gentiles (non Israelites) ?

Every believer does not have the Holy Spirit in them when they believe. And, it's true that in Matthew 28:19 is exactly what Jesus said, for it is " IN THE NAME OF". And that name is Jesus Christ. Acts 2:38 is the New Testament salvation message. John 3:3-5 and Matthew 28:19 is fulfilled in Acts 2:38. Jesus gave Peter the keys to the kingdom in Matthew 16, therefore Peter did not speak in error when he said to repent & be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Just know that the gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Acts 2:38. The epistles from Romans- Jude are written to the Brethren, it is not written to the world. The Spirit is a supernatural birth from above. The promise. The living water. First to the jew then to the gentile. All the people from Romans-Jude are saved. Period! However

Paul needed to correct many of them at times. There are many scriptures on water baptism. Yes, it very much is needed & Jesus spoke it in red letter words in John 3:3-5. Bible says to know God & obey the gospel. Not just know the gospel but we all must obey the gospel. When the people in the book of Acts obeyed Acts 2:38, they obeyed the gospel. Then in Acts 2:39, "It is the promise to you & to your children and to those that are afar off even as many as the Lord our shall call". Obey the gospel & therefore go forward into the epistles to learn & grow in the Lord. I spoke to the Lord these words: "Lord, everyone says they have the Holy Ghost (Spirit) but they dont. How will they know"? He spoke back & his words were, "will you tell them"? Now also, In Acts 19:2, "Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be a Holy Ghost ".

The keys, the Greek word Kleis, are not actual keys in a physical form, it is the power and authority to open and shut. The first of the verse "I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold I am alive for evermore". Jesus conquered death because He was sinless, Acts 2:24, and the devil/Satan who had the power of death, that is, the devil (Satan), Heb. 2:14-15 1 John 3:8.

Romans 8:10-11 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

My understanding is Jesus was in the tomb/hell for the three days and He did not ascend to the Father until He rose from the tomb. John 20:17, Jesus ascended to the Father and presented himself and was accepted by God the First Fruits of them that slept. He returned and met the women on the road going to tell the apostles and they could then touch Him, Matt.28:9.

This leadership is purely emphasizing their own lie which is not scriptural and the fact that is written in the latter days they will be such teaching which indicates they have departed from the faith or to put more basic they don't teach the word of God
