In the great diversity that was the constitution of His desciples it was essential that the object of their commonwealth must be stressed, for that when their diverse ways has taken them differently, yet they can remember the author of the things they are talking about: Him who said ''I and the Father are one.'' For if you love not you fellow men you love not God himself.

in this chapter our lord jesus was preaching the gospel of love telling us to love one another just in the way he had loved us...

In this chapter He was letting His disciples know that they had to wash each other feet as He has taught them and as He has demonstrated. He let's them know that they have to love one another and by this love others will know that they are His.

If the World would just try to live by this Commandment we all would be better off

I know the different translations make it clearer for us who are Old English challenged, but having love one "TO" another is different than having love "FOR" one another. "To" means the love is demonstrated, actioned upon, not just in your heart. It requires we show this love through our actions, live the love of Christ outward.

@Harry Tuttle...no where is this scripture of any scripture will you find abortion. The Word is simply saying it would have been better for Judas had he never been born because he betrayed God!

I believe as Christ cleansed the feet of the disciples we should endeavor to cleanse each other with prayer and encouragement, and conversations filled with Love

Jesus knew for sure that to take something from above(HEAVEN), one needs to go down(HUMILITY)and that is why HE taught us to be humble by washing the feet of the disciples who later through commitment became the APOSTLES.

This a wonderful validation of the imputed righteousness of God to all who believe. Daily sins only affect fellowship, not salvation. David prayed :Restore unto me the JOY of thy salvation...not restore unto me my salvation.

We need to accept Jesus as our saiver,because when we accept Jesus we accept God him Self,and God is love.then we will able to love one another.

Jesus knew who will betray him and who will dismay him . Still he is loving his disciples and shew Great Love and comp***ion towards them. Love one another as jesus loved you.

I am really touched by what Jesus did here. He showed humility and portrayed love which is the greatest of all. I LOVE YOU JESUS

Just I may be High in rank or my standing with people does not make me any better then, any one else. To not see you as my brother or sister and love you. Jesus loved them all though He was Master and they were servants. Can we humble ourselves or is that beneath us.

It is such a wonderful verse. Sometimes we get things mixed up. It does not say "by our doctrine" (though that is important) or by our scholarship (also important). The test to the world’s is our love. We can disagree and still love. We can misunderstand and still love.

Washing feet means serve one another.

This chapter has found me as I once was and as I am now. Many times in the past I have said to be a follower of Christ and at certain times with certain people I have denied him. But as I am now a true follower of him, I can so for him I live and for him I die to no matter when or where. God is love, kind and patience. To be among those who do not claim Christ because they have not accepted him is to be looked upon to say: Prayer not only changes things but also people. No one can testify of anyone whom they know nothing about. In time, God's time things and people will change, but my love for my fellow brethren remains the same. To look upon a sinner is to remember they are who I once was.

This is the essence of our Christian testimony, if we don't have agape love, than our witness for Christ means nothing.

Love is an action verb. Love is observable. It is not affection, it is not feeling, it is not compassion, though all these attributes may accompany love, they are not observable actions.

V. 20 seems strangly out of context or do we misinterpret it? The Gr. root for the word receive here is the same as "take" in Matt. 5:40 i.e. "sue thee at the law to TAKE away thy coat" and the Greek grammer book defines it as "to take in hand or to seize. To keep the verse of Jn.13:20 in context, might Jesus be describing the betrayal process? In V.27 Jesus sends Judas to the High Priests when He says "That thou doest, do quickly". The High Priests then take the plot against Jesus in hand and subsequently take on the one who sent Him, even God. Although this interpretation seems stretched, it is legitimate, it makes sense and it fits in the context.

My reply to Albertha is that that person has taken that verse out of context. You can misapply that verse to almost anything you want to do and don't want to get godly counsel on it. If you go into scripture you find that in many arranged marriages time elapses between the negotiations and the done deal. In Genesis, Abraham sends a servant to find Rebekah for Isaac; that was a quick marriage and pretty much exceptional. If a marriage is to survive, it should stand the test of some waiting, praying, and interaction on a non-physical level.
In John 13:27, Jesus was sending Judas on his way to do what he had to do.

The Old and New Testament BOTH speak the truth that THE LORD, GOD is alive.
There is ONLY ONE GOD. There is only ONE Saviour.

Isaiah 43:11 - 11 I, [even] " I, [am] " the LORD; and beside me [there is] no saviour.
