  • Sarah on Deuteronomy 1 - 6 years ago
on December 25. Christmas, the argument goes, is really a spin-off from these pagan solar festivals. According to this theory, early Christians deliberately chose these dates to encourage the spread of Christmas and Christianity throughout the Roman world: If Christmas looked like a pagan holiday, more pagans would be open to both the holiday and the God whose birth it celebrated.
  • Sarah on Deuteronomy 1 - 6 years ago
The most loudly touted theory about the origins of the Christmas date s is that it was borrowed from pagan celebrations. The Romans had their mid-winter Saturnalia festival in late December barbarian peoples of northern and western Europe kept holidays at similar times. To top it off, in 274 C.E., the Roman emperor Aurelian established a feast of the birth of Sol Invictus the Unconquered Sun ,
  • Sarah on Deuteronomy 1 - 6 years ago
Tertullian c. 160 225 . Origen of Alexandria c. 165 264 goes so far as to mock Roman celebrations of birth anniversaries, dismissing them as pagan practices a strong indication that Jesus birth was not marked with similar festivities at that place and time.1 As far as we can tell, Christmas was not celebrated at all at this point.
  • Sarah on Deuteronomy 1 - 6 years ago
.Celebrations of Jesus Nativity are not mentioned in the Gospels or Acts the date is not given, not even the time of year. The Catholic church changed it .The extrabiblical evidence from the first and second century is equally spare: There is no mention of birth celebrations in the writings of early Christian writers such as Irenaeus c. 1Tertullian c. 160 225 . Origen of AlTertullian c. 1

Gen.1:2: The Spirit was already present, ready to act as soon as the order should be given. The Holy Spirit has always been doing this very work. The divine Agent has ever been present to assist in the work of creation and redemption, to reprove and strengthen wayward souls, to comfort the sorrowing and to present the believer's prayers in an acceptable form to God.
  • Tom on Psalms 23 - 6 years ago
By family request I will be reading the 23rd Psalm in a memorial for a dear 95 years young lady. It is "her favorite". Says it all, for her faith, for her graciousness and for the love she invested in everyone around her. That investment continuous to bless us all. We will miss her, but are filled with joy to have known her here and are celebrating her victory with Jesus. !!

IT is not written in the bible Jesus dob. It explains the conception of John the Baptist and lead into the time Gabriel visited Mary and said she was highly favored among women. Our months are not the same as theirs. Their calendar was the Nissan calendar. Read LUKE 1:21-32. Christmas is a Pagan holiday. We are to commemorate, memorialize Holy days not holidays. ex- Passover, Unleavened bread.

you are not going to heaven if you think you can add your good works or righteousness to the work of Jesus Christ to get salvation. it is in the works of Christ alone that we are saved, not of our works least any should boast.

Yes Hazel, You are so right. The glory and magnificence of his Being and Word are truly beyond our understanding. Then He also indwells us with His Holy Spirit. He loved us so much that His only Son came and paid the supreme price for our eternal deliverance. All we have to do is to receive His gift. May all of us truly know that the greatest word in Elohim's vocabulary is LOVE ! ! ! jrock.

Nay. For no man who is of the truth can reject the truth: For it is written in the Holy Scriptures, of CHRIST: And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected: but received me as an Angel of God, EVEN as Christ Jesus.

To help others before yourself is a great gift from God to understand Him. Helps are giving yourself as Jesus did for us. Challenging yourself for anything God puts in front of you. Getting out of your rot of self and complaining.Sound familiar? Well- do something about it this holiday season. Open your eyes and Love God for for putting you into a situation you had to use God's Love! Understand!

I know 1 Thessalonians 4:16-Context 16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Jim: YES! Thank you! I try to tell people that, Like the Book of James 1:22 says, "But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourself. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Re the Sabbath discussion. In the 4th Commandment,God gives us His Seal Authority. Name-The Lord Your God Position-Creator Territory-Heaven and Earth.Without C4 and a 6 day creation, the day of rest, the Sabbath, has no meaning, the commandments no authority. The Bible has never changed the 6 day Sabbath-"I am the Lord, I change not"- Malachi 3:6. Coloss 2:16 refers to ceremonial sabbaths.
