That is an interesting way of looking at it. Please allow me to share my thoughts with you on this parable. I notice that these three servants were each given talents (money), one five talents, another two talents, and the third, one talent. You might already know this, but a talent was a lot of money. It is equal to 6,000 drachmas. I know that might not mean anything, but 6,000 drachmas, which is 20 years wages, it equals 1 TALENTA.

In our money, one talent would be worth $600,000. So, we are going to deal with somebody that gave back 10 talents. So now we've got a $6 million investment here. That is a lot of money.

We see in Matthew 25:18 that it says he that had received one went and digged in the earth and hid his lord's money. As you know, he is the only one who buried what was given to him. So, the one who had one talent, he comes up to the Lord, and he says I knew you that you are a hard man. And here is what are called Modal Participles in the Greek.

This is what He means by a hard man. He says, you reap where you haven't sown. I mean, you don't even put seed in the ground, and you expect something to be there? You are a hard man!

And you gather where thou hast not strawed. Now the word strawed is a good word, isn't it? It means to scatter. It is the word DIASPORA. You gather together where you haven't even scattered anything. That is a hard man!

Matthew 25:25 tells us that this man was afraid. He hid the talent in the earth, and then later comes back with it and says "here you go, here's your talent back!" He didn't lose it, right? I would have said you are fired, but the Lord had some harsher words in Verses 26 and 27.

I mean if you know He is a hard guy, you better get out there and do something with it, right? You don't go hide it and say well, He is a hard man. Yeah, well guess what, the hard man is coming back, and he wants to talk to you.

I believe the LORD is working in your soul. You're feeling the need to ask help for the injuries of others, you're acknowledging you've caused. That's turning you're heart to repentance. Recently I thought, if a person had a friend that was killed by gunshot & had a miraculous recovery. How would he feel, if when he returned to his friends & family, they had an image of the gun or bullet around their neck, to honor him. I would think it would be upsetting to say the least. Whatever our giftings; whether in natural abilities or spiritual gifts (often coming alongside those with certain innate talents and training) we are warned to be a "profitable" servant. Compare this with Matthew 25:26-30 on the UNprofitable servant. All good things come from God above so far as gifts are concerned. ( James 1:17). Therefore we are called to love God with all of our "heart, soul and mind" ( Matt. 22:37-40 from first command in Deuteronomy 6:5. It is tempting for many to keep their private lives under wraps and leave it to those in the limelight or leadership to concern themselves with their personal lives that are under more constant public scrutiny. And if hypocritical judgments favoring those in leadership to hold onto their positions because of the "reputation" of the church or favoritism as opposed to others involved in sin; there IS a problem. The assumption here is that with proper leadership and character required being demonstrated among the elders and Pastors then the congregation should get proper discipleship.

Part of the issue also has to do with "formal" religion performed in congregations as opposed to those involved in private homes with Bible studies; etc. The same distinction may be in people's minds between a formally declared "service project" as compared with those skilled; willing and able to help with a layperson in need of home repair; moving furniture; or even financial assistance. Another point was brought up today about those not taking care of their own widows and family needs as being "worse than an infidel." ( 1 Tim. 5:8). Such an instance where a missionary excursion is chosen along with the financial expenditures ahead of helping a family member in need would in that case be a sin if we are the only ones that can help in that situation. Same can be said for long term abandonment of a wife and kids for the mission field.

There were several careers I was becoming very successful & in each one, something happened to completely demolish those. I realized recently if those 'paths' I had chosen were successful; I would have been thousands of miles away from my family & possibly "too busy" to help my family members, during hardship, including cancer & death that happened much faster than expected. Looking back now, I'm so grateful for the time I had with each of them & thankful for GOD's mercy of not letting those empty ventures succeed. We cannot get back the time & years on earth when a loved one is passed on. Sadly the time without them as we continue on will continue to accumulate. I ask you, prayerfully consider GOD's perfect plan, could it be the most vital thing is to be beside your Mother, holding her hand for eternal memory & peace & comfort to both your souls, to be strength as she is afraid?

Since you mention the "oil", then you are refering to the parable of the 5 wise and the 5 unwise virgins.( Matthew 25:1-12)..

Firstly I must say that I have never heard something like what your pastor teaches about that.

The explanation depends on what one believes, i.e. whether salvation can be lost or not.

I am going to speak on behalf of those who believe that salvation is not secured until our final departure from this life. For the other case I will leave it to somebody else to answer.

Again there are two cases:

1. The rupture of the church occurs before antichrist makes his appearance on earth. In this case the 5 unwise virgins are left out of the rapture and have to go through the great tribulation. So their fate (salvation) depends on their decision to receive the beast's mark or not. (This is my belief as well).

2. Rapture occurs at the very end of antichrist's reign on earth. In this case the 5 unwise virgins are left out of the Marriage, that is they loose their salvation.

Matthew 25:31-46 is refering to the final judgement. In this case the "not doers of His Word" (the slothful servants) are heading to hell, (verse 41) "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:"

Yet I have found no other Preacher preaching on this.

My pastor preached that not all Christians will be allowed to enter New Jerusalem. That in Matthew 25 when talking about those "with oil," it's talking about those who are saved and served the Lord (doers of his word). And those "without" oil are are saved but did nothing for the Lord (slothful servants). The slothful servant still get to go to heaven but never allowed to enter New Jerusalem, because they did nothing for God.
