Romans 13:12,put on the armour of light.verse 14 put on the Lord Jesus Christ. Isaiah 59:16-17, it is YHWH Himself that puts on the armour. As a Pastor I have always taught that Ephesians 6:13 is what Paul states in Romans 13:14, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, in Him we always have victory!

This book is very special, specially 5:8,5:10,5:14, walking in the Light. Along with Romans 13:12, take off the work of darkness, and put on the Armer of Light.

What Do You Think of Romans 13? 2 Peter 1:20,21 The Word of God interprets itself in the verse, in the context or in previous usage. If we don 't know what it means then, according to 2 Peter, it is not for our own private interpretation.

The sabbath was for Israel because they require a sign 1 Cor 1:22. Moreover also I gave them my SABBATHS to be a SIGN between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them. Ez 20:12. And madest known unto them they holy SABBATH, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by thy hand of Moses thy servant: Neh 9:14. If you keep one point of the law you have to keep it all, James 2:10. Do you work on the Sabbath? Death then see Ex 35:2. Do you start your car on the Sabbath? That 's starting a fire on the Sabbath. Death for you then Ex 35:3. Thank the Lord for dying on the cross for our sins. He kept the whole because we couldn't do it. Trust Him not yourself. Wonder why Paul the apostle to the Gentiles Rom 11:13, left out the Sabbath in Romans 13:9. Verse 8 says :for he that love another has fulfilled the law. Whaaaaat? Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God and every one that love is born of God, and known God.

THIS IS THE ONE SCRIPTURE THAT SUMS IT ALL UP. WHOEVER UNDERSTANDS TO HIM, IT IS SALVATION....THE GREATEST POVERTY IN THE WORLD IS THE LACK OF GRACE AND LOVE IN PEOPLES HEARTS AND MINDS. THE UNWILLINGNESS TO GIVE TO EACH OTHER, WHAT ANYONE NEEDS, THINKING ANYTHING BELONGS TO US. AND NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE FINISHED WORK Of JESUS. EVERYTHING INCLUDING OUR SOULS BELONG TO THE LORD.
  • Brianna on Romans 13:1 - 11 years ago
Technically this scripture could be applied to many forms of atrocity such as teachers and parents, but it primarily talks about government. These translations used, kind of make it seem like God created human governments to rule over other humans. Another translation puts it this way : Let every person be in subjection to the superiorauthorities, for there is no authority except by God the existingauthorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. Brants comment did such an awesome job of explaining how human rulers came about. The nation of Israel had leaders, relatively, but everything was through God. He never intended for humans to rule themselves. He was going to be our rightful ruler. The Israelites gave that up and thus we have our governments today. Jehovah God allows them to exist for the simple fact of bringing order. But, when his day arrives those corrupt systems will also be destroyed along with Satan and the rest of his system.
  • Brianna on Luke 4:6 - 11 years ago
My take away point is this, there are satanic influences in the government. Now, this isn 't a hate the government statement at all. Romans 13:1 encourages us to give the proper respect to government without overstepping our rightful respect to god. However, if satan is saying that he OWNS the governments, and that means all the governments, then who are you really voting for? In so e governments more than others we see satan has a hand in it. Yet this shows all governments are under satan 's influence. Governments are merely doing what god said would happen in genesis. Man dominating man.

I believe in just laws ....but when it comes to obeying the rulers laws which conflicts with Gods law then you must disobey the rulers laws in favor of Gods laws. God is the supreme ruler of the universe.

  • Olivia on Romans 13 - 11 years ago
At the time this scripture was written the Jews were in bondage under the Roman Empire. The Roman soldiers were the ones who bore the sword to execute vengeance upon those who did evil. That applied to all regardless of genealogy who lived under the Roman rulers. Today the US citizens live under the authority of the government, which is historically known for being unfair, evil, and wicked. The government have made the police the authority to whom US citizens answer to for crimes and wickedness. They are called ministers of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon those who practice wickedness. Who else is going to execute vengeance on the wicked? The righteous? That 's not going to happen because the righteous lives by grace, mercy, compassion and forgiveness. So you have the wicked executing vengeance on the wicked. If this scripture is only applied spiritually then what place do rulers have here and to whom is the word rulers referring to? Who is the minister of God to us for good? This scripture is indeed applied spiritually and it is applied naturally also. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.

I AGREE WITH BILL...this is a spiritual commandment to our soul its not about civil governments should we obey hitler stalin mao of course other translation make this sound like civil government but the time is coming when true Christians can 't obey the government.......How can you accept the corruption and and atheists of the ANC Gov in RSA. Actually supported and assisted as Terrorists by other governments in previous years.
  • Ovidio on Romans 13 - 12 years ago
I agree with Bill above "this is a spiritual commandment to our soul its not about civil government ". ... Let Every Soul... does not mean to speak about "Every Man ". There has been a serious and criminal interpretation of this chapter, indeed. What it is refering to is that our Soul is subject to the authority of our "tutilary spirit " see the philosopher Plotinus to expand on this who in turn answers only to God and who has been commissioned by God to instruct us and watch over us to safeguard us from Evil and its corrupting powers and keep us from morally and spiritually faltering.

Roman 13 encourages us to be the right trend and this is by adhering to the authority above us for its God oriented Also we ought to be obedient to the commandments of God by doing what it says bearing in mind that the time is far spent you ought to be righteous by wearing Christ and discarding what is unworthy to your life sharom

My first encounter with this verse was as I was boarding a jail bus after court and a baliff guarding noticed my bible and told me "each of us has a place in there and his was Roman's 13" To look at him you never would have guessed him to be as source of bible knowledge but as Jesus told Peter, he would get the rocks to preach to him.
This verse caused me to hold church services twice-a-month for over a year during my last prison term.Prayerfully my last.

I would like to remind the adventist that no one knew to keep the Sabbath until EXODUS chapter 20. And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant: ( Neh 9:14) Also see the N.T. for further instruction. Ye observe days, and month, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain. ( Gal 4:10-11). Let no man thereford judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: ( Col 2:16). Read Romans 13:9 and see that during the Church age of grace, the Sabbath is left out of the commandments. Hope this helps. ( 1 Cor 14:28) :)

Everyone needs be subject to the ones that have rule over you. It can be your parents, teachers, ministers or whomever that have authority over you. All authority come from God. Some people are place in our lives to make us come higher in God. Be obedient to God and the ones that have rule over you so one day you will wear that crown.
  • Phyllis on Romans 13:1 - 12 years ago
If taken as a commandment, this passage would condemn the American War for Independence against Great Britain. Our founding fathers would have been in disobedience to God. In the context of the time, the early Church had to be wise in their dealings with hostile governments in order to survive. The only authority that the Church is subject to is the Bible.

Since all power and authority belongs to God, it follows that government is held in trust for God. Therefore, the ultimate preoccupation of any government should be to be off service to the people from the perspective of God not party perspective
