Bill; "..This is the work of God,that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. John 6:28" In the parable of the sower, who was responsible for every man's heart, what kind it was, and whether it was in a right condition for the Word to bring forth fruit? It takes WORK to change your heart from being beat down hard by the world walking all over it! It takes work to dig deep and get rid of the stones...

Leigh (cont.); "..Did I miss something?" Abraham came into the land of Canaan by God's direction, to pass his days as a stranger and a pilgrim in a country that was to be given to him in the future; and as a watcher and a holy one to be a witness of the ungodly nation which God was about to take away. Jacob knew the high and holy calling of God on his family though his wife lagged a little behind.

    J. Lazzari; I think your question is, Are the things spoken of in this chapter a summation of the whole message of the Bible? Well, If God hadn't intended us to HAVE all knowledge except one small aspect of our walk in this life; then, perhaps Yes! But for knowing and understanding the LORD, and thereby ourselves as His children; (even in this ruined and humiliated state); we need ALL THE BIBLE!

"...The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." If we are to have power with God in prayer, we are to walk as the prophets walked, as Elijah and Job walked, in the midst of this present vile generation of greedy and deceitful lovers of self, who make their wealth off the misuse of others. The fire of truth and zeal for God must be in our heart, and we must keep our integrity no matter how painful our earthly losses. Humility maintains a good conscience and holds truth in higher regard than every threat, and sustains us through every accusation of the wicked posing as brothers and friends in the Lord. The husbandman must labor before partaking of the fruits, and we must be proved before being entrusted with power in the world to come. The way of virtue and piety, which is the evidence of grace and the life of faith, is the way we will endure true and faithful to the end.

"Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy." Job is a great example of what it means to really know the LORD in this evil world. God's testimony of him from the very beginning was that he was perfect and upright above all others, even when Satan and men accuse and contradict.
  • J. Lazzari on Philippians 4 - 8 years ago
Could this be the key verse in knowing how God can direct us as Jesus was directed by the Spirit of His Father? Because God is good He thinks on these things! Hence the mind of Christ!
  • Kurt Chappell on James 5 - 8 years ago
Dear Lord thank you for warnings against our corrupt leaders from Isaiah and even James. We pray for our citizens who put trust in leaders who lie and go against God. We are sorry for our babies killed, crying out from the earth. We are sorry for society pushing you and Jesus out, and inviting false religions to influence us. We are sorry Lord for siding with enemies of Israel. Lord, heal us now.

Pharisees "advised" him to get out or else be killed, but JC basically said to them: I don't care, look, I'm fulfilling the requirements for the Son of Man and when you kill me, I'll rise.

Verse 18~Paul wasn't minimizing the suffering that the Christians went through at that time in 56 C.E. when Nero was emperor. It was in comparison to the glory that they would receive in heaven.
  • A disciple on Psalms 15 - 8 years ago
"...This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.' John 6:28 Notice the Lord uses the word WORK. Faith without works is dead. Real knowing and understanding the LORD, is taking a course in life directed in His Spirit to keep the commandments out of an obedient heart. ALL GRACE is then manifested by our actions, words and innermost thoughts; the reflection of His divine nature.

Bruce Wayne; First WARNING! (and maybe you've heard this before) numerology and mysticism, human methodologies from a misguided view, that the Holy Scriptures is some kind of curious art of man's device, or that it was cryptically written and may then be "unlocked" by unregenerate darkened minds of men; is satanic error and utterly false. The Scriptures of Truth are revealed to the obedient heart!

Verses 3,4~This was the law given to the Israelites. God's command could not be avoided without impunity and King Solomon is a prime example of this.
  • A disciple on Genesis 31 - 8 years ago
Leigh; The relatives of Jacob were nothing like the Canaanites, even if they were infected with idols: they were not the same kind that Moses later wrote about, who did every abomination that the LORD hates and therefore had God judged to have them completely and utterly exterminated from the earth. There are nations and people today that simply don't know any better, and the Lord will have mercy.

“Behold man has become like one of us...” other possibilities: we know that Satan was also in the garden and he also knows good from evil, so it could have been that. It could have been GOD speaking about his Angels. It could be GOD speaking about his TRINITY. We really don’t know. I always assumed it was the Trinity personally. What GOD’s conscious was saying/thinking to himself, but who knows
  • BSP on Ecclesiastes 12 - 8 years ago
