An answer to Billspiro's question concerning v.28 "For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together." The carcase has to be Jesus Christ because Jesus said we are to eat of His body and drink of His blood. This must be a symbolic figure of the burnt offering that Christ makes for us on the Cross. Rev 1:5 . We are caught up to meet Him the clouds before the Wrath of God is released upon the earth. In other words, this passage is marking the coming of our Lord. "...Immediately After the Tribulation...the sun shall be darkened... v29 ..."And they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds...And HE shall gather HIS Elect..." So the Lord is in the Clouds and we are gathered to meet Him there. See Acts 1:11, we are told the Christ will return in the clouds. The next time Christ is mentioned coming in the clouds is Rev. 1:7, which parallels Matthew 24:30. We will be with HIM there b c we are the ones to accepted HIS Carcase as a sacrifice.

Mathew chpter 10 verse 38 Jesus says we must take up our cross and follow him and he who loves his life will loose it but he who gives up his life will have eternal life. This passage is telling us that our walk with Christ will be a life that of surrender and sacrifice. Loving and serving God means that we should love and serve each other.
