I agree that there's a world of difference in the concept called believing. Some people believed in Christ after seeing His miracles John2v23-25 but were not genuine believers. A general belief like the devils themselves James 2v19 , or an intellectual belief, like those just mentioned, is not the personal belief or conviction of placing one's confidence in another to be saved John 3v16 .

According to my source, Theophilus was likely involved in Greek or Roman government, so that was his name not a title.
  • Marjorie Hodges - In Reply on Acts 1 - 6 years ago
God is who choose the disciple to replace Judas verse 24 God knows our hearts I was told Theophilus is a title which I don't know whether that's true that being said how would one go about finding out who that title belong to ?
  • Marjorie Hodges - In Reply on Acts 1 - 6 years ago
Yes if you continue to do what's commands God for us to do

Jesus did know when He chose Judas that he would betray Him. Jesus was God, so He knew. That, in my opinion, does not mean Judas was predestined Jesus didn t choose him for that purpose. I believe that Judas believed Jesus would deliver Himself like He had done on previous occasions.
  • Geraldine on Acts 1 - 6 years ago
i maybe wrong but i believe judas was predestined to do what he did before he was born even when Jesus picked the 12 He knew who Judas was my understanding is that judus was different from the other 11

Acts 1:25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. --- you can't fall out of a tree if you are on the ground.

2 Thess is probably not talking about the 'rapture', but Rev 4 is. At the rapture Christ returns FOR the saints. Acts 1:11 At the second coming Christ returns WITH the saints. Rev 19. The Tribulation pertains to Israel Daniel's people , not the church. Dan 10:14 Dan 9:24. 69 wks of years are fulfilled. Only 1 wk of years remain. all 70 wks pertain to Israel - non to the church.

It's my opinion that Judas did believe but used his freewill to do evil. Christians have freewill to choose good or evil. Grace doesn't give people a license to sin or to be complacent or to turn from the faith and be of this world. If actions and works didn't matter Jesus would not have said in John 14:15 if you love me obey my commandments. Some are deceived by Satan to ignore this.
  • Stanjett - In Reply on Acts 1 - 6 years ago
Judas did not believe, or he would not have betrayed Him.

Wendell Briggs, Judas Iscariot went to his own place, his eternal hell. Acts 1:25 Mark 14:21 John 17:12 Matthew 26:24. We choose our own place in this world. We choose our own place in eternity. Judas Iscariot betrayed our Lord Jesus Christ, for thirty pieces of silver.

Judas did not go to heaven. Believing is not the same as SAVING faith. The devil believes in Jesus too and we know that Jesus 'prepared' the place of torment for 'the devils and his angles'. James 2:19 clarifies. "Thou believest that there is one God thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." Jesus said it would have been better if Judas was never born, He called Judas the devil.

Where did David "spake before concerning Judas"? Acts 1:16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

Richard Solis, The day you by faith trusted in Lord Jesus Christ as savour from your sins you have the Holy Spirit inside of you forever (you are born again) read John chapter 3 and all of 1st John.
The devil and his demons cannot be saved at all they will be cast into the lake of fire forever. read Revelation chapters 19 and 20.

A good chapter to read at this Passover time.
  • Felicia on Acts 1 - 7 years ago
Mr Solis - You can know that the Spirit is upon you or filled with the Spirit: doing what otherwise is difficult e.g. joy unspeakable, able to read the Bible freely, pray, manifesting the fruit of the Spirit these are some of the signs.
Bible: "You believe that there is ONE God ... the devils also.." it does not mean, they believe IN Him. No trouble a second time. Devils, never be saved too proud.
  • Faith Nguro on Acts 1 - 7 years ago
The book of Act is the demonstration of how the church should be but unfortunately it is not like that
  • Richard Solis on Acts 1 - 7 years ago
Note Jesus said, you shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost has come upon you, the question is how do you know when the Holy Ghost is come upon you? Is it by faith? is it just by believing? I do know the devil believes in God, is he saved now or later in his time? The Bible tells me God does not change, he is the same today and forever. I believe Chapter 2 has the answer. God bless.

@A Disciple-Thank you brother! I see now that we are always witnesses, not just when we are "witnessing". I've been marvelling at how "invisible" I seem to be when I'm out in the world. Finally I realized God is like that also, and yet He Is no less Powerful or Deserving of Respect. His Power and ours Is the Longsuffering power of Divine Invisibility in the face of Human Sin and Blindness to Him !

Verse 6~Jesus' disciples were in expectation of the Kingdom. That was good that they were keeping on the watch, but the Kingdom was not coming immediately as they supposed that it would.

Thank you God and Jesus for never ending love amidst a hateful world. Jesus thank you for your Holy Spirit, helping us do even more. You encouraged knowledge of you to go out, ‘ to be your example to the ends of the world.’ Let all born again go out to third worlds, exercise faith in love with Jesus. We must get away from head knowledge only, listening, joining God, finishing our race strong. Amen

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Now read the Sermon on the Mount, and all of the Lord's teachings about what it means to be a disciple, and what we must therefore EXPECT to encounter in this present evil world till He returns. Its by our bearing up with good will toward all, and with His divine temperament, under the duress of hateful contradictions, oppositions and humiliations inflicted on us for Jesus' sake, that the Holy Spirit uses to sanctify us and at the same time convict the ungodly. The Holy Ghost upon us in power, and not only in word is how we overcome and endure to the end, and how we will so teach all men to do all that Jesus commands us.

An external kingdom wd be no threat to Satan, As our carnal mind is his seat the very enemy of God,thus the kingdom has to be INTERNAL, WITH IN US,thats y the good seed is sown in our hearts that Christ might be born in us,Destroying our propensity to sin, As them that are born of God cannot sin, That good seed is gonna remain with in us which is christ in us,TH SON OF MAN MEANING MANKINDS FRUIT.
