This is a tough scripture, the sons of God and the daughters of men. Some consider the sons of God to be the line of Seth and the daughters of men the line of Cain. Then if we throw in what Jesus said in Matt. 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven, wow.
There is no need for angels in heaven to marry, they are immortal, and no need to reproduce as we will be after the resurrection in the kingdom on the new earth. Angels are called sons of God in Hebrew b'nai Elohim in Job 1:6Job 2:1Job 38:7.
Through scripture angels take on human form, they eat and drink Gen. 18:7-8Gen. 19:3 and physically wrestle with man, Gen. 32:24. If they eat and drink would that mean they have all the organs of man on earth? Scripture tells us there are devils/demons and fallen angels on earth along with Satan but there is another group of angels. These angels are different, they are locked in chains of darkness in the bottomless pit until judgment. 2 Peter 2:4-7Jude 1:6-7. We see in Rev. 9:11 this pit has a king, and this is where Satan will be locked up for 1000 years.
They left their first estate, heaven and in 2 Peter and Jude it says making them an example, (going after strange flesh), they corrupted God's creation Gen. 6:5-7. Even though there are fallen angels roaming the earth this set of angels God made an example to the others they will be locked in chains of darkness until judgment. We see the devils in Mark 5:9-10 were in fear Jesus might cast them down to the bottomless pit.
We see that this happened again after the flood, Gen. 6:4 "and also after." The description in scripture is clear these are not just tall people. 2 Samuel 21:16Joshua 12:4Numbers 13:33Deuteronomy 2:19-21Deuteronomy 20:17Amos 2:9. This is just a small amount of information but may it will help in your study.
Hi Bonnie. There are probably several methods that people have used to help in memorization; and as the old adage goes, 'Repetition is the mother of learning' is one that is most often used.
However, when it comes to Scripture memorization, we need to remember that this is the Holy Word of God that we have in our hands, as 2 Timothy 3:16,17 tells us, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."
So I believe that both memorizing & understanding God's Word must have God's Holy Spirit to assist & guide us. Without Him, all that is written in the Bible are simply words holding limited value, with any memorization attempt only little more than what a child at school would memorize by rote. You probably already know many verses, with Psalm 23, John 3:16, and Romans 3:23 among the top ones known by many Christians. One good way to add to this, is by reading & meditating on the verses around them & as you read them over & over again, the Spirit will cement these others verses, not just in your mind, but more importantly deep in your heart. And when they are stored in the heart, they will more easily come to remembrance - very useful when you need to hear it when in trouble.
My other advice is, not to attempt to memorize large portions of Scripture, because that will be very difficult & if you forget something, you may get discouraged. Go one verse at a time, slowly building up on other verses, particularly those that specially speak to you, meaningful, which you can also use to help others. And if possible, try to memorize the Bible references as well, alongwith the verse, so you can easily go back to it or show the verse to someone else. I'm sure others here will give you some good advice. May the Lord renew your love & memory power for storing up His Word in your heart.
I read my bible, and have trouble remembering it, do you have any suggestions on how I may retain it better, I am 58 and memory not the best? Thank you & God Bless!
A brief point to this is that God uses Satan for His purposes (as stated in my recent posts). God has allowed this usurper to complete his purposes for the redemption of man ( Genesis 3) to the crucifixion and betrayal of Christ based on prophecies of Judas in Psalm 109; etc. God has to have an instrument to do these evil things as He himself cannot sin. Christ had to take on our sins as the innocent lamb after a sinless life of obedience. Thus; He CANNOT do otherwise; no other meethod than belief in the Son of God and no other work will atone for our sins; thus in creation there is no way we can "save ourselves."
ALL of these things bring glory to God; and He is praised forever. In eternity; of course we will begin to live as we were designed to in a sinless state learning evermore from God and enjoying the splendors of heaven.
Sin therefore for God's elect is never "stronger" as it were than God's mercy and forgiveness. There are simply two realities; one for those saved and one for the lost. It appears as the wheat and tares there is no difference as we all live in the world but are not OF it.
As always; I feel remiss if I don't make an extremely strong push here towards conveying jut how real the enemy is and his stranglehold over this world. But as with the way we approach God; the book of Jude makes it clear we dare not make a "railing accusation" ( Jude 1:9). We appeal to the Lord or we stand vulnerable to being squashed like a bug.
Understanding how sin; and evil men facilitate God's plans are beyond our understanding; nonetheless Pilate put up the INRI on the cross stating who Christ was (King of the Jews). The Lord has the last laugh (and as I stated before is the only one in destruction of the wicked to be able to do that without sinning).
Again probably this brings more questions. I hope you get some joy as 2023 comes in.
I suppose this post has been up; I didn't know my opinion was of interest-seems like Gigi did an extensive one; and "ontological" is beyond my "pay grade" in terms of scientific vocabulary.
I tried to start responding and as always my extra tabs wiped out the page. Anyway; it is somewhat heartening that you seem to know the Lord.
Starting off here; I'm too lazy to once again get all the exact quotes. Roughly speaking I was going to say that in Psalm 139 we are said to be "fearfully and wonderfully made." In Ecclesiastes 7:29 the "uprightness" of man is mentioned but that he goes astray for "many inventions". A big point many make is about the age of accountability. I can't see how anyone is lost forever in condemnation without understanding some basic things about sin and punishment which probably begins with child rearing. David's quote about the child that died seems to indicate a certainty that he will see him someday but not until he dies ( 2 Samuel 12:23).
Sin; death and decay (as brought up through the concept of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics) really can't be explained other than it happens; much like concepts like gravity. I would say simply the spirit of a man lives foreever; whether in restored (saved) condition or lost. Man would have lived forever in an "innocent" state if he hadn't sinned. This would not have enabled him to rule and reign with Christ as we can now; nor fulfilled His plans for free agents in the spirit realm to choose to rebel or remain with Him in their "proper estate". ( Jude 1:6). Whether we understand sin as we get older we see more and more of the effects. God has designed this world to unwind; and eventually be destroyed and replaced with a new heaven and earth. Things in the sovereignty of God ( Deut. 29:29) remain there at least this side of eternity. Proverbs 25:2 states that kings have some things revealed which may suggest as "kings and priests" in Him some understanding comes. We are not God who knows all.
Love you brother, read your posts just don't reply much anymore. Just something to consider, many are looking for The antichrist, as there is just one that is coming. In Rev. 13:2-9 we see the first beast is given 42 months/3.5 years to make war and overcome the saints, if we are still living that's us. I agree he ascends from the bottomless pit, Rev. 9,13,11,17, the king of those spoken of in 2 Pet. 2:4 and Jude 1:6 and Gen. 6.
There is a second beast, he is the one who creates an image of this first beast, and he is the one who makes people worship it and take the mark, the false prophet Rev. 13:11-15. We know these two beasts are here together with Satan/the dragon Rev. 12, because the false prophet, the second beast, is the one who does the miracles and does them in sight of the first beast.
The Book of Proverbs hits hard, it shows us where we fall short. It's always good to return there for guidance & wisdom as we walk closer to the upward calling of CHRIST. Philippians 3:14, Proverbs 1:1,
It may be best to encourage yourself by reading Psalms 139, Romans 8, John 17, Jude 1:24-25, while you reading Proverbs.
You are right, this is hard to understand so we need not be dogmatic but humble. The sons of God are in the OT only 5 times Gen. 6:2, 5 Job 1:6Job 2:6Job 38:7, and Daniel 3:25. The times in Job and Daniel are clearly angelic beings, so how do we take the meaning in Gen. 6. It says, "when the sons of God saw daughters of men", The Hebrew word for men here is h-'-m/adam meaning mankind. So, is this distinguishing a difference in the sons of adam/men?
There are words that we may overlook, "and also after that". We see giants/Nephilim after the flood. 2 Sam. 21:16Joshua 12:4Num. 13:33Deut. 2:19-21Deut. 20:17Amos 2:9 and more. Are there any NT scriptures that speak to this?
2 Peter 2:4-6 and Jude 1:6-7 both are talking about angels who sinned and "which kept not their first estate but left their own habitation", the Greek word is used only two times translated habitation is oiktrion, the other place was in 2 Cor 5:2 the word house. Peter and Jude both compare what these angels did the same as in Sodom and Gomorrah, strange flesh.
There are fallen angels along with Satan who are active on the earth today and still have access to heaven, but these angels did something even worse because God made an example of them and locked them in chains of darkness in the bottomless pit, until judgment. I do not know of any man in the OT who was ever called or referred to as son of God, I may have overlooked it, but my understanding is Nephilim came from these angels that God locked up.
The danger of Dominionists is that they think that they can rule and reign on the earth; making the world "ready" for Christ's appearance by somehow taking over a world that God Himself has allowed Satan to usurp to ultimately accomplish His purposes.
They enjoy taking verses such as Joel 2:30-31 and verses in Revelation on a countless multitude chapter 7 verse 9 and think that despite verses to the contrary on many falling away from the faith in the last days that any "revival" must be from God. Satan Himself according to the book of Jude must be properly addressed; even Michael had to show deference to the Lord when he rebuked him ( Jude 1:9). The obvious conclusion to this situation is that we should never apply a meaning to a specific passage that clearly contradicts the rest of scripture as a whole. The same problem exists for Preterists who use verses that seem to clearly indicate the Transfiguration ( Matthew 17) and somehow seem to think it can be proven that Christ physically returned in AD 70. Doctrinally speaking as I have alluded to in my earlier statements; if we for instance dogmatically state that God is finished with the nation of Israel as a whole and attribute all passages as symbolic or a description of the church today we get ourselves into trouble.
There is also the proper application of cross references. Jesus; for example laid out two concepts (loving God and your neighbor) as the SUM of the law (see Matthew 22:36-40). However; the law itself was superceded as it were with grace. That meant more STRINGENT applications as were brought up with the subject of thoughts related to adultery and hatred also brought up by Christ. (see Matthew 5:17-30). The concept of covenants in scripture is equally valid; as I see it with dispensations as there are multiple covenants (some for Israel; and the only one for the church being the New Covenant). Even that won't be totally fulfilled until the Millennium.
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 1 Peter 4:17.
Often we speak of a revival, sometimes revival seems it is what the church needs rather than the nation. The nation is doing what nations do.
The church is set apart and is to be light to ALL the world/nations.
Here's what I observed, Some seems to minister to draw people to themselves.
They are thinking they are that light and rightfully so. But what is you/light supposed to shine on? Who's in the midst of the candlesticks? Jesus!
Today we see people "But not everyone" shine light upon themselves. ( Notice I didn't say "the light.)
Is that an oil filled light?
Can there be a revival in this way?
I'm sure we can agree on this matter, The question is "DO I DO THIS?" We should ask ourselves.
Here is also what we should ask ourselves.
Does this glorify the Lord?
Am I doing this by the Spirit of God or the lust of the flesh?
Is it the Lords glory I am seeking?
Is this moved by the Spirit?
If Gods spirit resides in you you should know!
Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. John 12:31-32.
HOW DOES THE WORLD SEE US?
Boy does this matter!
Acts 2:44-47 ?
John 13:35 ?
Here is just a few things that would hender these 2 verses?
Certainly Leaven and the tares plays a role.
When the world look at us from the outside they see some of their own.
Pride by the work of their own hands.
Materialism.
Racism.
Ect.ect.
We also get along worse than them considering we are supposed to be led by the Spirit.
Jude 1:4
Hebrews 5:12-14.
2 Peter 2:10-15.
This is why everything we do should be what is (caused) by the Holyspirit.
Don't let pride keep you from your purpose and proper place.
Thank you Dr. Adams. I think we're referring to two things here: the Sabbath that you wish to observe, if as a nurse, you worked a 'non-standard' week, and secondly, the Sabbath that was specified by God for His people, Israel, to observe.
a. in the example you gave, it would be quite appropriate for you to rest on your seventh day, even if that day should fall on any other day other than Saturday. Personally, I would just call it my rest day & not my Sabbath as to some folk that might infer that I'm recognizing & observing the Jewish Sabbath & changing it to 'my Sabbath day'; but maybe that's another discussion.
b. in relation to God's Command to Israel to "keep the Sabbath (the seventh day) holy" & as to "what day to start or stop"(your comment), I would suggest the following. Israel, from the time of the giving of the Law, knew exactly when their working week (or rather, days of toil & wandering in the desert) started and stopped. You may recall the Scripture in Exodus 16:25-30, where God provided manna for six days & the people had to collect extra on the sixth day to tide them over for the seventh day (Sabbath). This continued throughout their wanderings so they had a calendar of sorts to mark out their days of toil & their day of rest; the arrival/cessation of manna never failed. This 'calendar' never changed since then & even when Jesus went through the corn fields on the Sabbath ( Matthew 12:1), or went to read in the synagogue on the Sabbath Day ( Luke 4:16), He never upbraided the Jews for observing a day that was not the very same one specified by God in Exodus.
And for today also, I believe that the Sabbath Day falls on the Saturday (as per the Gregorian calendar that we use), as Jews also recognize it & observe it. Chabad dot org, confirms that Chanukah begins this year on Sunday, December 18 and ends on Sunday, December 25 (with December 24 being their Sabbath - Kislev 30). I hope this helps a little.
You are correct. As a N.T. saint we are not bound to the Mosaic Law, but the spirit of the law is what we should be mindful of and order our life accordingly.
The Bible never mentions what day to start or stop, it just says for 6 days, you shall labor, and on the 7th day, I rest. So, if I am a nurse and my work day starts on Wednesday, and I work 6 days, my 6th day would actually be Monday, so couldn't I have my sabbath on Tuesday, since it does not specify a day of the week in remembrance of God the Father? Would I not still be honoring God if I labor for 6 days and rest on the 7th?
Dear Christina, James 4:7 says, "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." How do you resist the devil? Like Jesus did when he was tempted in the wilderness. He did not argue, He quoted the scripture, and the devil fled each temptation.
The Word of God is our armor against Satan, our bullets, I like to call it.
Shoot as many as you need at him when he tempts you with unnatural relations. I give you Romans 1:26,27, 1 Corinthians 6:9, and Jude 1:7. Prayers going up.
I have been looking for a program where I can see and hear the scriptures and choose verses or chapters to discuss during service, or a session, or a course and this is perfect for me, thank you.

If they eat and drink would that mean they have all the organs of man on earth? Scripture tells us there are devils/demons and fallen angels on earth along with Satan but there is another group of angels. These angels are different, they are locked in chains of darkness in the bottomless pit until judgment. 2 Peter 2:4-7 Jude 1:6-7.
2 Samuel 21:16 Joshua 12:4 Numbers 13:33 Deuteronomy 2:19-21 Deuteronomy 20:17 Amos 2:9. This is just a small amount of information but may it will help in your study.

Just something to consider.

The word "epistle" means letter. The word Gospel means "Good News"
It may be best to encourage yourself by reading Psalms 139, Romans 8, John 17, Jude 1:24-25, while you reading Proverbs.
Hopefully this is encouraging & helpful
You are right, this is hard to understand so we need not be dogmatic but humble. The sons of God are in the OT only 5 times Gen. 6:2, 5 Job 1:6 Job 2:6 Job 38:7, and Daniel 3:25.
2 Sam. 21:16 Joshua 12:4 Num. 13:33 Deut. 2:19-21 Deut. 20:17 Amos 2:9 and more.

"Following Jesus and shining you light on Him!!
Examine ourselves.
God bless.
a. in the example you gave, it would be quite appropriate for you to rest on your seventh day, even if that day should fall on any other day other than Saturday.
I don't believe the days of the week was named back then. When they were named they named the 7th day Saturday.
And we know God rested on the 7th day from all his work.
However the Sabbath day was given to Israel.

You are correct. As a N.T. saint we are not bound to the Mosaic Law, but the spirit of the law is what we should be mindful of and order our life accordingly.
The Word of God is our armor against Satan, our bullets, I like to call it.
Shoot as many as you need at him when he tempts you with unnatural relations. I give you Romans 1:26,27, 1 Corinthians 6:9, and Jude 1:7. Prayers going up.
Bless you!
I have been looking for a program where I can see and hear the scriptures and choose verses or chapters to discuss during service, or a session, or a course and this is perfect for me, thank you.
