"And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir./And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir."
Significance of bread and wine established Abram as truly born in the will of God and not by the will of Terah. By the same token Eliezer belonged to Damascus while Abram's name was in the rolls of holy Jeerusalem. His eternal priesthood prompted him to refuse the advancement when the king of Sodom offered him. He understood that when Melchizedek king of Salem blessed him."Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God."(14.18-19) Having partaken the bread and wine, he had entered into the will of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth. So he tells the king of Sodom,"I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,/That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich." The Spirit instructs with the solemn 'oaths',- we have two instances to compare here, Abram lifts up his hand unto the Lord, as the 'another' mighty angel does in the vision of St John. "And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,/And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein"(Rev.10.5-6) The Spirit is comparing to Jesus Christ and the last Adam so he was called for "the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,/ To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven."(Heb.12.22-23)
Salvation itself is a miracle; described by Christ Himself as illustrated in Matthew 9:5 where the physical healing is contrasted to sins being forgiven. It would be nice to see this today where many are promised to receive their blessing or miracle or something to that affect where mammon is clearly the subject of intent for many of these practitioners who act as an amateur magician playing the old shell game; as it were. Everyone wants to live forever; what is the elixir therefore? But only the sick need a physician ( Luke 5:31) thus a self righteous Pharisee may have been enamored with that statement if they didn't detect He was referring to their self righteousness masking a corrupt and sick soul.
Part of loving others unconditionally is believing God can take someone like Saul of Tarsus and turn them around. It took time for the early church to accept that; not that you can blame skepticism on their part initially. We don't need to sugarcoat the Gospel but we do need to trust God to work in His elect. Saving faith can transform the worst person to a new creation; alternatively the nicest person (or sweetest frame according to one hymn) can't be trusted. Nice agreeable people are a much greater danger to themselves because they don't have others who can readily prosecute their character; and we can be drawn to such individuals ourselves and justify their rebellion to the extent that we are drawn into the same sin (such as an attractive female and adultery). Rebellion is as witchcraft ( 1 Samuel 15:23); this verse was brought up to me a long time ago in a discussion related to a rebellious wife and her actions.
The church; therefore needs to be separate and pure from the contamination of the world. This isn't like a secret society of rites that exclude outsiders but a sanctity that ultimately draws IN those God has called and chosen for such a path on the narrow road. We should be REAL people!
As I have discussed in other posts; trying to bring the world to some moral standard other than being salt and light is a guardrail God has established but certainly imperfect at best. Pride comes before a fall ( Prov. 16:18 and illustrated by Lucifer's dowfall in Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14).
We dare not be proponents of anarchy as a result of misusing grace nor legalists who show no Agape towards others including God's people. There are warnings in 1 John about those who do not love their brother and the fact that shows we are not truly in the faith if not dealt with. Rejoicing in evil has no place in a Christian's heart; we must by all means avoid the trap of pride and self righteousness as our standard; or having a favorite vice such as covetousness cause a root of bitterness in us ( Heb. 12:15). Nonetheless; NOT proclaiming warnings of His wrath to come is being derelict in our duty; and as God reminds Ezekiel blood is on our hands if we fail to warn. Part of this problem is fear of men; and the other which is associated with this is having too little fear of the Lord and respect for Him and not trusting His Word will come to pass. If the church doesn't fear God of course it is easy to follow the wide path of the world. Hell isn't literal; eternal or as bad as it was told us; the world naturally defaults to that sentiment but to see in the church this idea is quite disturbing. Alternative lifetyles are sin like any other. That statement is a half truth; for it is an abomination ( Leviticus 20:13); and this brought Sodom's destruction notwithstanding their other sin of pride and haughtiness which led to this judgment and behaviors as well. All sin of course leads to death but as 1 Cor. 6:18 also shows sexual immorality causes us to sin against our own body and has unique punishments that often begin this side of eternity (disease for instance). Let's divide the Word rightly
PRoverbs 29:1
He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
The world; in blues music in particular likes to justify murder of an unfaithful spouse caught cheating; and this brings out a concept of justified indignation and therefore sympathy for the killer and the act of rage expressed. Proverbs 6:35 states it well: He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts. That verse of course relates to a jealous spouse going after the lover; but other scriptures in the O.T. laws make no bones about stoning the adulterers ( Leviticus 20:10 as one example).
As seen with the illustration of the woman caught in adultery; of course we see that His grace can supercede men carrying out what is in the law. We see several things here; Jesus never said that punishment douldn't be enacted; and told the woman to sin no more. We also see that the other party (the man involved) wasn't brought there so it was an incomplete testimony. My point in bringing this up is to show that the self righteousness which motivated this act was clearly a preplanned trap to trick Jesus and therefore supposedly justify those who brought this woman. They realized their own sin and walked away when Christ challenged them which is profound. One would hope that this would result in a number of them coming to true repentance and remorse over their sins; as God clearly opened their eyes to supernaturally prevent them from killing her.
What it shows also is that men should have God's standards both personally as well as corporately to enforce laws over the populace. Without this people are oppressed; we see this with dictatorships throughout the world.
In representing the King of glory; it is His Kingdom we are to focus on not some utopia on earth. Overall; a covenant with God to believe Him and REPRESENT Him to the world is a grave matter.
God provided His Son for our salvation; thus determining the one parameter necessary for saving His elect and man is commanded to repent and believe ( Mark 1:15); as well as verbally confess AND believe in their heart ( Romans 10:9 with emphasis on the second issue the heart). Finally baptism I would argue is necessitated as part of this public confession being demonstrated by our association and experiential death; burial and resurrection with Christ (see Romans 6:4 and subsequent scriptures on the subject).
I am not here to argue on whether someone is saved if they die between that verbal confession and heart change and the time set for Baptism; I will say that one should expedite it ASAP in obedience; as good fruit in general needs to be a hallmark of faith.
More broadly; of course we all need to test ourselves to see if we are in the faith; so that actions such as Baptism or confession may not truly have been the result of saving faith. ( 2 Cor. 13:5). Good fruit as seen by the Parable of the sower and the seed is crucial and necessary as God Himself has prepared these good works for us from before our creation ( Eph. 2:10).
This is a key concept; that what we do should be empowered by the Spirit of God and not self righteousness. Outer actions therefore are important but the state of the inner man determines spiritual rewards. Therefore our works don't save us but are needed to bare witness to a new nature motivating and guiding us to a lost and dying world.
God's covenant through the church ensures every true believer is truly saved but there are varying degrees of rewards based on obedience and these result in "crowns" for those in leadership for obedience; martyrs; those patiently waiting for His return; etc.
As Revelation 3:11 shows the Philadelphia faithful church rewards can be taken by another. Some things are a good thing to covet but no one gains the prize by character assassination of another.
One of my arguments against divorce and remarriage while a first spouse is alive is not only seen in the latter half of Matthew 5:32 (whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery); but is also represented in the vow made "for better or worse until death do us part" or something to that affect. Now some have a Pre-Nup that puts financial off ramps; shall we say if things go sour; but no one that I am aware of says "if my spouse commits adultery I can divorce them and marry another" as an exception clause in their vow that I am aware of.
As this is a subject of great debate and a hot topic I am merely going to use it as a building block to prove the cohesion of scripture in regard to conditional terms in relation to God's covenants. In general God is eternal in terms of covenants and binding things remain with the exception of the old covenant of laws with National Israel which the new covenant in Christ has replaced. I would recommend a study of Hebrews 9 on the subject in depth. I would also say that the great haitus as it were between Daniel 9:26-27 separating the 69 weeks from the final "week" of seven years of the Tribulation judgment and Antichrist rule. God still as I see it has plans to fulfill His plan for Israel; in short putting them through the fire in the time of Jacob's trouble ( Jeremiah 30:7); and establishing His rule fulfilling the complete expansion of their borders to originally promised areas (See Psalm 72:8; His dominion from "sea to sea".
Now in terms of this subject in particular we see lets say with a business covenant; for example man's conditions in a written contract that has terms of business transactions and provisions for any violations. There are varying "mission plans" that can be discussed but each party signs off that they understand and agree to these arrangements.
In the next post I plan to look at the church and similar concepts of responsibility of its members.
The universal covenants which God created that are established with all men after Adam (as "every soul is mine" is illustrated in Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. This passage is part of a larger picture demonstrating that each individual is held responsible for being righteous or wicked and we aren't going to be responsible for our father's sin; and more importantly we aren't given special status if our father was righteous. We see this illustrated with the "sons of Abraham" when in John 8 starting in verse 31 Christ warns the Pharisees that they are in reality sons of the devil and can't use their biological heritage as some sort of defense to prevent judgment by God.
Therefore biology transfers a fallen nature in one respect; but what we DO with it is another matter. God prescribes the proper method to atone for our sins through the blood atonement of Christ; any other method we come up with will fail.
I thought of another sort of covenant this morning; and that is in regard to the slaves which God established in essentially two ways; with those who were Israelites working out their debts in servitude; and those who were made slaves due to conquest.
I am focusing on the former at this point; although no doubt there are other things relating to the latter in terms of how they were to be treated which I suppose I should elaborate on in order not to avoid hard scriptures. The best example of the latter would be the Gibeonites who although they used deception were able to hang onto their physical lives being slaves and obligated by God to protect.
As for the Israelites; God warned the judgment of Babylonian conquest had a sort of last minute reprieve available if they were to let them go after seven years. ( Jeremiah 34:8-22). They forced them back to servitude and God sealed their fate of judgment.
There are different covenants which exist; some are case specific for national Israel and others affect all mankind. Thinking about this a bit further, I would say that in addition to God's provision for Adam and creation of a covenant of marriage (which man merely participated in with the consummation) He also had the conditions of remaining in the garden of Eden whose terms of course were broken. What we learn from the fall of man is that death came to Adam and Eve; which started with the fall of the soul of man followed by eventual physical death that caused all of creation to groan to this day ( Romans 8:22). This caused the need for the "second Adam" ( 1 Cor. 15:45) to be necessitated; as prophesied in the first prophecy in scripture in Genesis 3:15 about Christ's atonement for sins; which had its first foreshadowing with the first animal sacrifice by God Himself in Genesis 3:21 for clothing.
Because we are all under what is termed "original sin" which in fact causes a fallen nature of the soul and spirit of man none of us can escape God's judgment as HE DID ALL THE WORK in creating us as eternal beings ( Ecclesiastes 3:11 "eternity in their hearts). The universal marriage covenant; however formal or informal the ceremony is holds men accountable for the vows they make; Numbers 30:2 is just one example: If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or takes an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. Ecclesiastes also discusses this; and for marriage specifically we see in 3 of 4 Gospels God's original design of making two into one flesh and what God joins together man is not to tear usunder. ( Mark 10:9).
The case specific covenants for Israel and its Sabbath day restrictions certainly point to Christ as He is Lord of the Sabbath ( Matt. 12:8). He has a new covenant because of His atoning death ( Heb 9:16-17) for us.
4 And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not: for ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn for ever.
5 Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.
6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
This section of scripture concludes with a fairly well known verse (at least to me) in regard to the state of an unregenerated human heart. The surrounding sicriptures describe curses that result from trusting man over God (verse 5); as well as the contrast with those who are trusting rather in the Lord (verse 7). We can see the fate of eternal fire (verse 4) as ultimate punishment as well as results for individuals and nations who are against the Lord; again contrasted with verse 8 which is similar to Psalm 1 in construction with blessings for the righteous.
Prophetically some of these events no doubt are related to Judah and Israel during the Babylonian diaspora. The idea of forsaking God can be seen in verse 13 O Lord, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living waters. Written in the earth is seen also in Revelation 11:10. Let us choose who to serve this day!
Melchizedek's embassy to Abraham was the high priest and bread and wine established Abraham as the precursor for Jesus Christ. By a Covenant God ordained him as 'Thou art a priest for ever." The Spirit uses the tag 'forever' to establish the eternal priesthood encompassed both heaven and earth. The Covenant between God and Man ensured blessings from the greater to the lesser so Melchizadek was addressing the man. Bread and wine referred to his Son who was the Word which was God. Setting the Word becoming flesh the king of Salem validated Abraham as after his image and after his likeness. In heaven the last Adam as the lord from heaven set his envelope while Jesus as the word become flesh as 'the son' of Abraham.
It is upon this unity of the Spirit his priesthood worked. Thus God in a vision appears to him.'the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision' holds both heaven and earth alike.(15.1)
Abraham's immediate concern was something else," And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?" Now God insists the protocol 'how to approach God'. In v.9 God refers to the animals chosen were to be three years old. As with the tag,'forever' the number Three establishes that he was ordained as a priest in his Son.
9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon."
God caused a deep sleep in Adam "And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept:"(2.21). Here the deep sleep foreshadows the death of his Son. "And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him."(v.12) As a priest Abraham foreshadowed blessings of man in his Son.
Matthew 19:26
"But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible."
Matthew 17:20
"And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."

Harold Godwinson was the last Anglo-Saxon king but had a very short reign (January-October 1066) and died by the army of William the Conqueror.
Both the Anglo-Saxons and the Normans were Christianized in the Church of Rome. Both went swiftly to war with one another withing their tribe but also without. They were constantly working to have dominion of the lands of Britain both prior to and after this Conquest. So, I don't think that the Anglo-Saxons were anymore honorable and bound to Christian principles than the Normans or the Danes or the Welsh or the Irish or France or any of the other powerful kingdoms of the European Continent and Isles.
But as I said earlier, God was causing history to go along as He willed. He used various peoples in this fight for land and dominion to forge changes towards His purpose and end goal throughout history. And, as I will say, His goal was not about Israel or Gentiles separately, but to bring to Himself in Christ a redeemed people, Israel and Gentile, from every tongue, people, tribe, and nation to the praise of His glorious graced and that in Christ, all things will be completed and made complete, especially when He returns for His second coming.
Only if christians could really understand this. Then we will not feel so guilty when we fail obeying God's commandements. So instead of trying getting there on our own why don't we kneel down and ask God to provide us His grace?
Yes definitely we must try our best. But when we come to our limit (because all people have their limits) it is time to ask for His grace. Grace will get us there where God wants us to go. Nothing else.
Once there was brother in Christ whom for no reason I disliked. Sometime I met him in the church and the dislike for him flared up inside me. But I was feeling guilty about it. A christian feeling dislike for his brother for no reason? Not accepted. So I didn't know what to do. So I just started to command that dislike to go away in the name of Jesus. After doing that for 4-5 rimes I felt like a dark cloud went away and the whole environment got bright. And I was looking that brother with love inside me. In a split second my dislike for him was converted to love for him. Was it that I commanded the dilike? No it wasn't that. It was God who saw my intention and provided me His grace. It never occured such a thing to me any more. I believe it was a message from God who wanted to show me how easy is for God to make us love each other, even our enemies.
It is called "God's Grace" Let us ask for it everyday four lives. No we will not automatically become perfect at once. But step after step, day after day, month after month, year after year, we will increase in Christ.

What is the difference between an old family car and a race car, a Ferrari? It's huge, isn't it?. Similarly the difference between man and God is huge. Can an old car run like the Ferrari? Definitely not. Even if we modify it, change the engine, the suspension, the aerodynamics, everything in it, it will never go like a Ferrari. t will be somewhat faster and that is how much it can be improved.
Can a man walk like God? Is it possible for us to walk/think/feel/behave like Christ? Think of that old car. Even if we try our best we will never succeed to walk like Christ. It is above our abilities. t is above our nature.
God is sinless. His nature is sinless. He doesn't have to fight sin. Sin simply can not touch Him. But we are not. Actually we are sinful. Our nature is sinful.
"God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:"( James 1:13). But we are tempted. Very easily.
God doesn't have try to love someone. Love just comes out of Him naturaly. Because His nature is love. God is love. But we are not love. We can hardly love ourselves. How is it possible to love our enemies?
So we have two different persons with different natures and different abilities. But God wishes us to become like Him. Does God ask the impossible from us? At first sight it seems so.
So we have a problem without a solution? What is the solution?
The miising thing in this problem is called "God's grace". God's grace is what bridges man to God. It is the Holy Spirit who enables us to walk like Jesus. There is no other way for people to become like Christ. It does not depend on our abilities, our ethics. Those will not get us far away. It is like a father who asks his child to run, say, 50 miles. And the child is exhausted after a couple of miles. How can that child run the remaining 48 miles? Similarly man can not go far with their own abilities.

I agree with you. Those who claim to have deliverance ministries are often so flamboyant in their ministry which brings attention to themselves. Why would they need to resort to such dramatic demonstrations if their work is truly from God?
And as far as how they often speak to demons, they ignore what is said in Jude 1:8 says of the archangels who tells Satan "the Lord rebuke you". When they tell demons where to go and speak ill of them, they are not following Scripture and show that they really do not understand how much power and authority these truly possess. Only Jesus is more powerful and possesses more authority than evil entities. We should beseech the Lord to help us, to come and deliver a person from demonic influence and be on guard against falling into evil traps set by them who take advantage of some minister's excessive, boastful address to demons themselves. Perhaps more prayer and fasting would actually be what God wants them to do before they try to bring release from evil for others.
Additionally, what you speak about concerning what some people label as demons such as lust, lying, etc. are more likely not actual demons specific to such problematic behavior. These behaviors are the result of our sinful corrupted nature that only wants to sin and to invent knew ways to sin. We must fight against our own nature by the Spirit of the Lord and take responsibility to the rise of besetting behaviors that we tend to feed and allow to grow because we , for one , love them, and secondly, we pass them off as demons when in reality it is just our own self that is bringing these behaviors out in our lives.
It seems that some sections of the charismatic/pentecostal community have driven down deep into this type of thinking to the point where every problem, appetite, character flaw are shouted out as demonic, but they are often not so. We have the Spirit of God living within us and we should walk as if we believe that He is God over demons.

I had double cataract surgery over a year ago and only need glasses for reading. I hope that you can be in touch with an agency that may help him get the correct eyeglasses for his new sight needs.
I will continue to pray for him to decide to stay where he is at, to realize that this home is doing him much good and his health is improving as a result. I will pray that God will cause his sobriety to continue indefinitely and that he will not feel the need to go back to drugs and alcohol.
You mentioned his son. I did not know he had a son. Does this son live nearby? Is he truly helpful to Arthur's overall health and well-being?
Donna, you have a lot to be thankful today. But there are big concerns still present. Lean on God for each day and its needs for you, Arthur, and your other son, too, who has drug problems, too. God is strongest of all. He can do what seems to us as impossible. And He is compassionate to those who are unable to help themselves much. My prayers are with you and for you and your family.

His appearance is as a forerunner to the patriarch who shall observe the act of circumcision as a sign of entering into the life of his Son whose Advent itself is a pledge to the promise of the indwelling Spirit upon all men. The basis of fath is same for both.
The Lord from heaven sets bread and wine so circumcision signifies outward observes condemning the flesh and drawing blood in the process. Mind you it is before the Law of Moses was enjoined upon the nation of Israel. Abraham was to be the priest-king and of the latter aspect we have the proof in his successful campaign against the confederacy of nations.(14.1-17)
As commanded of God he serves as a priest administering the covenant."and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him."(17.23) Thus the Spirit is setting Abraham as the Father of many nations of which the Jews constitute only one part. It is ofthm God promises, " And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth:... then shall thy seed also be numbered./ Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee"(13.16-17). The Covenant of the flesh is merely pendent to the Covenant God has entered with his Son. "The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek."(Ps.110.4)
Circumcision is of no value since his Son shed abroad the Holy Spirit. Upon this promise stands the church of the first born and of the spirits, "the spirits of just men made perfect,/And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling."
Imposter church may contain the seed of Abraham but none of it can be said to be of 'another seed' of Jesus the Mediator. Church of Rome was on the ruins of Rome.
Thanks for this helpful information. And yes, you are correct that in some ways we differ in perspective on some history, but we can read historical accounts to gain understanding of the factors that led to the historical changes God used through time to advance His kingdom, Church, and witness.
I understand that you are UK citizen. I am a U.S. citizen. We have a lot of commonality in our historical past, as many who colonized the New World were from Great Britain. But the U.S. as it grew westward was influenced people from many other nations (mostly European in the early centuries).
I do firmly believe that God is control of all history and works it out according to His plan and purpose decided from before creation as He knew all of what would come about because He decided what would come about in order to bring His purpose to fruition to His ongoing plan throughout history.
Through all the ways, bloodshed, high and low points in history, God promised in Romans 8:28 that ALL things are worked to the end of our good to those who love God and are called by Him according to His eternal purpose of election and blessing to those He determined to redeem through all time. We can rest with confidence that no matter how things work out in history, God does work within history to bring about good to His people.
These powerful and wonderful words appear, inter alia, upon the Naval War Memorials at PORTSMOUTH, CHATHAM, and PLYMOUTH. The words are also inscribed on other memorials, such as the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, to honor the fallen, linking their sacrifice to a lasting legacy.
What an amazing epitaph to those who made that ultimate sacrifice. A testament also to those who designed and built these memorials, and chose the wording thereon so very carefully and appropriately.
