Hiya earl bowman thanks for your spritual insight into the working of the h.g. 2 nd cor. 3 : 6 kjv comes to mind who has made us able ministers of the new testament not of the letter that killeth but of the spirit the h.g. that gives life as even our lord said my words are spirit and life which is the h.g. a living spritual being .

Seeking in Scripture this morning attempting to discern through God's Holy Spirit Verse 10 where Jesus says on the back of the verse "nor yet staves;". Why did He use the word "yet" to the disciples? What was left for the Disciples to receive later but The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit could be likened to a Stave, for doesn't one lean upon a stave? Doesn't one who is weak rely upon a staff to rest upon? And doesn't The Holy Spirit in Psalm 23 Verse 4 say of Jesus Himself saying "Thy Rod (Word) and Thy Staff (Spirit?) they comfort me."

Now throughout the Old Testament everywhere else, I find no reference of The Holy Spirit as a Staff only that of a wooden walking stick to rest upon. And in Mark 6:8 Jesus commanded " 'save' a staff only," here referring to a staff of wood to lean or rest upon when walking or standing. So what of the meaning of 'yet' and 'save' in each Gospel? So I am at a crossroads in my mind and must pray to Christ for discernment. If you desire to assist, feel free. Peace.

Dear Shirley Prado; you have asked a very important question. In the world you will get many answer but please realize the world is full of deception. You were given a answer and I do not feel it is strong enough for the answer to your question. Your answer can be simple but would not easy to absorb and also Satan's agents are waiting to attack with deception. We are in a spiritual war for the mind. Trust no one, however I will ask you to read Jeremiah 33.3 KJV. Make it your daily prayer. Make a deal with the Lord that you will follow where he leads no matter how unpopular. Pray daily and do not give up. God will answer, he can not lie. "Study to show thy self approved, a workman rightly dividing the word of Truth." I and millions more, clearly know what will be placed in the forehead. For years I have known after using Jeremiah 33.3 for over 6 months, until God led me to the correct church to find the answer's. For years I walked [ by faith in his prophecy,s] not knowing how it would be possible to put the mark in most of the world's forehead but in the last 3 years it is clear to see it coming . I say most because there is also another mark for those who do not take the beast mark. This mark is called the Seal of God. If you seek the Lord with all the heart you will be blessed because no secret thing will the Lord withhold from those who walk upright.

My question is, does Genesis 11:10 mean that Shem was 98 years old when the flood occurred as according to Genesis 11:10 Shem was an 100 years old, and begat Arphaxad 2 years after the flood?

According to Gen 5:32 ... Noah was 500 years old : and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japhet.

According to Gen 7:6 ...Noah was 600 years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.

Which would mean that the boys were 100 years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth or am I missing something?

Perhaps the 9 months in the womb and some other months while in the arc, which would add up to 2 years that are missing? Or how do I understand "begot" at the time of conception or at the time of birth? Please advise and thank you in advance,

That's a great request that you've put forward Braden. It's one that demonstrates a real hunger for the Lord & for more knowledge of Him from His Word. You're correct, one of the best ways of knowing the Lord & drawing closer to Him is from learning from His Word, communing with Him in your heart about what you read & giving Him the praise due to Him for the wonderful God that He is to you. Another important aspect about desiring greater communion with Him, is to allow Him (by His Spirit) to get 'more' of you. So often many Christians genuinely hunger more of the Lord's things but aren't prepared to let go of things in their own lives that come in the way of a deeper relationship with the Lord. Only you can do a heart & life search & see if there's anything there that would displease God.

Your Christian life with all its graces is always the best testimony one can have in front of family & close friends. When they observe your behaviour, your responses to difficult situations or people, your quiet confidence in the provision of your needs & the hope you have of everlasting life, often we say that it's those 'unspoken words' that can have the biggest impact. If you've already shared the Gospel with them, it's very likely that they'll stop listening to anymore words; you need to ask God that their ears & hearts will be opened & that they will enquire to hear from you. Nagging someone to listen to you isn't the best option in any family situation.

If you've done some Bible reading, then you'll know what God is saying in those many Bible Books & letters. All of Scripture needs to be read as all of it is profitable to your soul & for knowledge. Since I don't know how much knowledge of the Bible you have or where you are in your Christian life, it's difficult to suggest a Bible book to start with. The Gospels are always a good starting point to learn of Jesus Christ & His Love for you.

In reading the Old Testament it strikes me that one must remember during his lifetime Jesus found himself less and less in the tabernacle. In his youth his parents searched for him and when found he reported he had been in discourse in the tabernacle. As he attained his 30 years we don't often find him in worship there. We must always remember that the Old Testament is the inspired word of God spoken at the time it was needed but to bring the emphasis on ritual into modern times, to me, does not do justice to Jesus' itinerant ministry as where we gather in his name is where our church is and the sanctification of a group of people to be separate to serve the Lord based on their birth is something Jesus rejected in action if not in word. We find true separation to serve the Lord in the person of John the Baptist and I believe in modern times certain sects of monks can be viewed as authentic in their service to the Lord. Ritual has a place in many religions but I try to remember Jesus was not a man who valued ritual as much one might think. Anyway, that is the notion that came to me in reading Numbers.

How many times in the Bible is the word or form of the word "worship" mentioned. I'm doing a research project and was wanting to know.

That's a difficult question to answer when applying it to a specific person's life. But my experience tells me that firstly, the one seeking to 'know' God's Will for him/her, must truly be 'in the Will of God'. That is, he/she must be re-born by God's Spirit having been cleansed from past sins by the offering of Christ's Blood on the Cross for him & being made a new creation, in Christ. To fully realize God's Will & to be joyful & at peace about it, whatever it is, can only come through our relationship to God our Father & fully trusting Him for any outcome in our lives.

Personally, I've never sought God's Will for me. I would have liked to know what it would be, the path I should take in life to reach that end and what I should perform to get there. But it's always been my impression that a believer just needs to be found 'in Christ', & having His Spirit in us, guarantees us His keeping of our souls, our teaching, our guidance & our continual refreshment. As we're 'in the way of life' & doing what God has set for us to do, He will lead us & take us further in that walk with Him.

Sometimes, we can have a burden on our hearts to pursue something, whether in the secular or religious world. It would not be wrong to ask God about it & state your desires. Then see whether that burden still remains upon you & observe over time, how events are panning out for you to reach that goal. However, be flexible & responsive, if the Lord should close the door you seek to enter through - He delights in His children obeying His Word & His leading, & not force one's own desires thereby bringing on painful results. God always does what is best for His children, even though we sometimes think otherwise. We can look at Israel who pressed God for a king, just as the other nations had one. God had warned them not to do so, but they insisted & eventually Saul was crowned. God gave into them bringing unfortunate results. You can pick up this story in 1 Samuel chapter 8 onwards.

How do I get closer to God? I know the best way to get closer to him is reading his word. But I never know where to start or what book to read, and most of the time just end up confused. Does anyone have any good references, I'm sixteen so what books of the Bible do you think would best fit me. I also want to learn more about the second coming of Jesus Christ, but I've read all I could find so far. I would like to ask for advice for the best way to serve god in a family that doesn't put God first. The Old Testament doesn't provide any clear reference to a star to be seen over Bethlehem. These 'wise men' or magi from Eastern lands were observers of the starry kingdom, & even though they may have used their art for dubious purposes, there was suddenly an observance that appeared to them that was out of sync with the placement of the heavenly bodies at that time of the year. And it was not only different in that way but also of increased intensity (maybe similar to the recent alignment of two planets) which prompted their travel into that direction.

Now, they would have to travel a great distance, even if it was on animals, so it's possible that at the first appearance of this special star they commenced their move. And in the providence of God, their arrival at baby Jesus' crib, an animal's feeding trough, coincided with His birth. But the question: how did these magi even know that this babe was to become "the King of the Jews"? We're not told this: it could have been a prophecy (as in Micah 5:2) that reached them, or some other belief in that part of the world expecting a ruler-ship to happen in Israel. But they immediately responded to that heavenly phenomenon.

Just my thoughts to guide you, but can't be verified from the Scriptures.

In John chapter 3, we have the account of Nicodemus, a Pharisee, a religious leader who adhered strictly to the Law but lacked spiritual understanding to what God was truly seeking in him & us. When he approached Jesus at night, Jesus perceived that his lovely statement about Him ("Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him."), was veiled with the inference that 'I too am a devoted teacher of God's Word & obedient to every command of God'. Jesus, seeing right into his heart as Jesus usually did with people, came out with, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

At this comment, Nicodemus must have thought ('marvelled'): "this is something new I've never heard of before". Or more likely, he believed that he had one up on Jesus, that He speaks with forked tongue when saying that a re-birth (or, a second chance) must be given to a person to come out for another try to be righteous enough to enter God's Kingdom. So Jesus went on to explain that was not the meaning, but that just as in a physical birth (by water), so there must be a spiritual birth (a rebirth by God's Spirit) to enter God's Presence. In the flesh, we are sinners destined for punishment, as those devoid of God & spurning His Love for us. But when we repent from our sins & turn to God by faith in Jesus' Work at Calvary, then a spiritual re-birth takes place, whereby our human spirit is renewed & refreshed by God's Spirit.

Of course, the story in John 3 was pre-Cross, but the Truth was laid out before Nicodemus, & we can only wonder how those words he heard from Jesus would have affected his heart at the time of Jesus' crucifixion. We know that in John 19:39, Nicodemus voluntarily spent much money to purchase the necessary embalming ingredients for Jesus' Body, which might indicate something of a spiritual work in him earlier on & culminating at the Cross.

I certainly have no skill or knowledge to respond to such scientific experiments or goals. All I know is that man has never been able to, nor ever can, create something out of nothing. He may be able to replicate to some extent, but not create. As much as he has advanced in the scientific & medical spheres, a created being can never assume the creative powers & unsearchable wisdom of God. He might be able to build a robot to accomplish a myriad of tasks, but if he cannot tell where man came from & how things have come together, it can & should leave him humbled because of the minuscule amount of knowledge & skill that he actually does possess. Job chapter 38. He could, in His ignorance & self-worth, compare himself to the Almighty God, even as one who believes he has the power to control his present & future, but he is brought to total insignificance when he can't even stop the effects of sin on his life which ultimately leads to his death & eternal destruction.

h. That it appears from the Word that Christians began worshipping the Lord on the first day of the week ( Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 16:2), though attendance to meeting with others at the synagogue was still practised by Paul ( Acts 9:20, 13:5, 14:1, etc.), there appears a departure from the religious side of the Sabbath to the first day of the week, maybe in remembrance of the Lord's resurrection & a separation from the Jewish Sabbath which included worship. No doubt, the Sabbath still remained a day of rest for them.

I am personally not inclined to whether I worship on the first day, the second or even the seventh day, as the Sabbath Day significance has no application or meaning to me under the New Covenant. When I was in employment, the need for a rest day was still required & appreciated, but that's all there was to it. If Sunday as a worship day is a problem to some, then set another day aside to worship with the Lord's people. But if to keep the Sabbath becomes an unquestionable, non-negotiable requirement that can bring on the Wrath of God or disfavour to the people, then I simply cannot see that expressed in the Word or by the Spirit, & one would have to do some intricate exegesis to provide convincing proof.

Apologies for keeping this response lengthy (though brief, in some respects), but thought to raise some thoughts for you to chew on & respond where necessary, i.e. trying to lay down some groundwork to build upon. Every blessing.

f. Jesus' time of suffering & death came, but also His glorious resurrection, that through this Divine Act of God to redeem ALL men to Himself, both Jew & Gentile would now be acceptable to Him through faith in the efficacy of the shed Blood. Was the Sabbath & the Law still current for the Jew? As long as they lived according to the requirements of the Law, they had to abide by it & were judged by it; if they failed in one part of the given Law, they had failed in all ( Galatians 5:3, Romans 2:13, James 2:10). When the Jew put aside the Law as necessary for salvation, then the application of the Cross became real: that which was based on faith & promise, & not on the letter that only served to reveal him his sin & to draw him to Christ ( Galatians 3:24).

g. So why then is the keeping of the Sabbath still necessary? For the Jew without Christ, it remains a day of rest, as an act of obedience to God, & using that occasion for religious exercises. For the Jew & Gentile who is now "in Christ", the Sabbath, as all other Laws, have no binding, other than the importance of setting a Rest Day aside from our labours, & the Laws that reveal God's Mind & Purpose for both religious & social responsibility. If one, whether Jew, Gentile or Christian, chose to keep any of the Laws, including Sabbath, then they were bound to keep it & the whole Law - there's no option to pick & choose. And by keeping the Law to justify ourselves before God, even one Law, then precludes us from the Grace of God through Christ, because that is diametrically opposed to the meaning of the Law ( Galatians 5:4).

c. Numbers 28:9,10. Not only a day of cessation from labour, but was also used in religious activity: in this instance, sacrifice (a special burnt offering). From this, we might learn that the day of rest also involved sacrifice & maybe a rehearsal of the laws given by God to Moses. So we can't think of it as just a day to sleep-in & be totally unproductive in mind & spirit.

d. Various Scriptures concerning the 'do's' & 'don't do's' on the Sabbath are shown in the Word. The people could not "kindle a fire, collect Manna, trade in goods, or bear burdens". They could however, "be involved in military campaigns, weddings, feasts, offering of sacrifices, opening gates, changing guards, etc."

e. Till the building of the first Temple (Solomon's), all religious activity was contained in the precincts of the Tabernacle. When the Temple was erected, public worship & activity took place there. After the rebuilding of the Second Temple (c. 352 BC) led by Ezra, public worship recommenced. In Jesus' day, both the Temple & the Synagogue existed: as Chabad dot org says, "The purpose of the synagogue was to provide a venue to facilitate and enhance the Biblical obligation of prayer by adding a communal element." When the Roman army destroyed this temple in 69 AD, the synagogue remained the only place to come together. So, the Jews maintained the 7th day of rest as prescribed but also used that day productively in the synagogue. And this is where we find Jesus: both at the Temple ( Matthew 21:12,13) & also at the Synagogue ( Matthew 4:23), teaching but also condemning the religious leaders for their hypocrisy, high status, extra stipulations for the Sabbath, & grievous burdens laid on the people (Matthew chap 23). Jesus conformed perfectly to His Father's Commandment in treating the Sabbath as holy & in doing so, revealed to the leaders their failure to understand its meaning, both in rest & correct religious observance & practise.

I see that this matter is much on your heart & with anything that requires serious consideration, I find that if we have the basic understanding of it, then we can confidently proceed from there. But if we have disagreement at that 'basic' level, then whatever proceeds from there, will amplify our objections & take us to further divergent thoughts & conclusions. So, with the Sabbath Day, it's only proper to understand what is given to us in the Word & what God requires of us by His Command. Therefore, I will state what I believe on that subject & you can take issue with me in point form, so that the matter might be properly addressed. And by the way, I'm here on this Site just as you & others are, to share, discuss & learn more from God's Word. May the Lord help us & give us His Wisdom.

a. Genesis 2:2,3. On the seventh day, God rested from His Work & blessed that day & sanctified it. Was God exhausted & worn out from that demanding work of creation? The use of the word, Shabath, indicates that it was simply a cessation of work. And in the Genesis account, I'm not trying to decipher whether the days of creation were literal 24 hour days, or days denoting extended periods of time. The point was that for six 'creation' days God involved Himself in work & on the seventh He desisted from such work which doesn't imply any physical weariness.

b. Exodus 20:8-11. The first direct instruction given to the children of Israel concerning this day of rest, Shabath. The keeping of this day holy (set apart) as with the rite of circumcision, marked out this people as belonging to the Lord, that which no other nation was given or observed. All humans & animals in the company of God's people had to desist from any form of work or else punishment by death followed ( Exodus 31:12-17). This command (or, any other commands) & any requirement to observe them, were not given to any other people except to Israel.

II Peter 1:21 For the prophecy (like the words in Zachariah) came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. It wasn't Zachariah that was going to bring them (creation) through the fire; but the Holy Ghost.

Revelation 19:10 ........worship God: for the testimony (words) of Jesus is the (holy) spirit of prophecy.

I Peter 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ (Holy Ghost) which was in them (prophets) did signify, when it (Holy Ghost) testified beforehand the suffering of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

II Samuel 23: 1-2 Now these be the last words of David, David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed (by the Holy Ghost) of God of Judah, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

(2) The spirit of the Lord (Holy Ghost) spake by me, and his (Holy Ghost) words were in my tongue.

When the Spirit causes you to understand that the words in the bible are the words of Spirit and not of man then the Spirit will start bringing you into spiritual understanding and start washing away worldly wisdom, which is foolishness to God.
