I was looking for the interpretation of biblical 'hate' as pertains to God saying, "Esau have I hated." In doing so I ran across 'Baker's Evangelical dict.' Among many other instances , he mentions Ps.26:5; that David is saying he (and God) hate evil people. This is NOT what this scripture is saying; it says God hates the evil, not the people; cont.

  • Irene123 on Isaiah 61 - 9 years ago
V.1 - " ... to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of prison to them that are bound ... " - is one and the same. Jesus (God) used 'doublespeak' quite a lot to make His meanings clearer. He knew His hearers were of varied understanding. 'Captives' are captives of sin, just as those in prison are; it's one and the same.

Vs. 19 -21; the prophecy of eternal salvation with Him in Heaven. The heavens and earth that now are, are kept in store for being cast, with satan and his angels, into everlasting fire.

    V.21 - Deut. 6:4-7 explains Isa. 59: 21; Pro. 22:6
  • Irene123 - 9 years ago
V.4 - " ... to strike with the FIST of wickedness ... " refers to the HARSH words in witnessing that come from our mouths; not literal fists.
  • Irene123 on Isaiah 58 - 9 years ago
    V. 7 - the 'bread' is the truth of the Word of God; 'thy house' is the church where he will hear this truth; the 'naked' are those not covered by His spirit of holiness - Acts2:38; 1 Pet. 1:15-16; "in all manner of CONVERSATION refers to not just mouth, but to our physical being, how we dress, our body language. Webster's defines 'conversation' in scripture as how we appear to others.
  • Irene123 on Isaiah 57 - 9 years ago
    V. 57 - It says the RIGHTEOUS shall be taken away from the evil to come. Isaiah was a prophet and the Lord gave him this prophecy of the Rapture - before the evil, i.e. GREAT tribulation. We will and do have tribulation in our walk with Him, as one on here has said, because Jesus (Himself no less) - said so. But we know it's not the WRATH TO COME - Jesus said so, Rom. 1:18. UN - righteousness!!.

Tiffany, May God bless you for your stand, but - as Ingrid used scripture (wrongly) - we need to use scripture for HIS stand; not for OUR stand, HIS. Everything is in and about JESUS. And ALWAYS pray for His guidance for HIS answers. I have been guilty of just bulling ahead with scripture - without praying first, and NONE of it has done any good - that I can see.
  • Irene123 on Isaiah 55 - 9 years ago
    V. 11 - Something the Lord finally got thru to me about this verse is: if we have His spirit living in us, that before we witness scripture to anyone, if we will pray about it FIRST - then He will bless it even more so. But - His spirit in us is needed for Him to hear prayer for His word to others - Jn. 9:31. God hears the prayer of one truly seeking Him in repentance, Acts 2:38.

correction - last line; "they will NOT understand ... "
  • Irene123 - 9 years ago
quote - Let us become as little children in the matter of asking and allowing our God to open our understanding. Moreover, it is His work to open the understanding of those to whom we witness. We do not have to force anyone to accept His views. Except their understanding be enlightened by the Lord Himself, they will understand the scriptures. unquote
  • Irene123 on Luke 24 - 9 years ago
quote - A vital fact must be remembered regarding the Apostles being taught. It is important to US because it applies to us in exactly the same way it did to them. "Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures." Without divine illumination no man can understand the scriptures. unquote

Bruce I believe the dead in Christ have never died, they are not in flesh but they are with Him right now and First, yes they are, first with Christ. We will be changed at the 7th trump and when they return we will meet them in spiritual bodies. Oh, all will change at the 7th trump and that's the good, bad, and ugly.

Jesus spoke of the Spirit concerning Laz. Therefore he let the death of the body occur. What! But he knew a demonstration of the power of God was necessary. It became a political tipping point as the High priests plotted his sacrifice to save their position in the Roman state
Jesus certainly knew his fate and also knew he the Father who would stage these events for the sake of all the doubters

"The backslider in heart..." for all have sinned...you won't "QUIT" sinning til the day you die! So in this sense, we all backslid to a certain extend! But we shouldn't stay here in a backslidden condition too long... we should just confess our sins and get right with the Lord.
